glad it still working! were you having any other issues? my radio and AC will randomly stop working, radio stays on but I get no audio, AC looks powered but blower stops. like you it happens during the warmer months, I did have a battery drain recently as well. chalked that up to the battery being a few years old, now I'm wondering if that was related.

My 2012 F250 had an engine code that my ignition switch was short to ground. I did the ignition key wiggle test with drivers door open and the chime was intermittent. I replaced the ignition switch like you suggested and my problems are solved. Thank you very much for the informative video.

Want to say thank you for this quick video. I think I found the link somewhere else. Yes I have 2013 F150 and had a key issue a while ago and AAA came out and I think jammed and broke something since after ignition was always very loose. Skip forward 6 months that's when started having the power issue. Then my mechanic said it was battery since it was 5-6 years old. So replaced the battery then appx 10 months later having same issues. So thought I had bad battery, charged it. So tightened and cleaned the terminals for just the sake of it. Tested it and tested new by me as well as auto shop. Skip forward another 6 months happening again. And seems like when wiggle key in off position things flash. So was looking for right way to fix after reading so many of the same issues with no one really coming to conclusion. Until I found this most recent post which linked to this video. After replacing module key feels like brand new. Only time will tell if no longer coming out to dead battery. Fingers Crossed. Thanks Ted from Massachusetts. 2013 F-150 SuperCrew XLT

I was having a problem with my truck not starting. Also the radio and everything else would say on even though the truck was off and i had to unplug the battery to turn them off. Led me to think it was wiring but turn out it was the starter. I smacked the starter hard with a metal hammer and the truck started right up after and all the other problems went away.

Sounds like my old 89 blazer. Give it a good smack when things weren't working, and right back to running haha. Not sure why it worked on your truck. I hate tracing electrical issues

2013 f150 5.0L I had very similar issues. Battery would randomly drain from time to time and leave me stranded. I also noticed my truck would sometimes start like it had a dead battery. I took the battery in for testing. Had the truck monitored overnight, could not find any draw. Finally, I found this video. purchased a new ignition switch and installed it, which was inexpensive, and my truck was instantly fixed. Seemed old one just gradually became tired, loose connection. Would either confuse or lose connection with bms?Cheap plastic crap.Hope this helps some people as it did for me.

Good straight forward video with great camera work, I have a 2018 f150 ecoboost with the dash lights /speedometer/blinkers/cluster just turning off while driving and eventually just have the odometer lighted? Everything else works and the truck is still driveable just have to guess at the speed. After awhile the dash will reboot and come back to life. Hopefully this part will cure it, Thanks.

@@juanpereira8656 Yes, I ordered the correct genuine ford ignition switch that gets turned by the key assembly for around $50.00 on ebay and installed it after watching some youtube vids. The problem disappeared.

@@ezshifty Sure, Genuine Ford Ignition Switch DG9Z-11572-A, This will fit 2018 Supercab 2.7L, other models may be different.

Same here brother...customer brought it to the dealer on a 13 f150 told him 975 for both! Ended being a 60 dollar part!

Couple things, one that scanner says android only second i have been having trouble with my setting for seat and steering wheel staying, the key fob not always working and my truck would just die for no reason!! Im hoping this helps all that!! Im going to try this this next weekend!

For Android, FORScan Lite by Alex Savin. Very happy to help. So glad i made this, it seems to have helped alot of people.

I have this same code B10F1 showing on my BlueDriver scanner, but no symptoms of any trouble? Scanner reads same..."Circuit Short to Ground or Open Module". My key isn't jiggly either. Confusing.

Its probably the same issue. For the cheap fix, it's worth it. That doorman part was a little over 20 bucks last I checked. And the whole swap takes 30 min if you take your time. The sloppy lock cylinder could be random for every vehicle. I have still yet to experience the issue.

Hey does ur radio and lights stay on to after removing the key?

Radio will stay on for a bit or until I open my door. Aftermarket led headlights stay on for a few seconds then turn off

I’m having problems with the fuel gauge ligh, the transmission temp gauge light, the obd2 says I have problems with the ignition switch, maybe replacing it will solve those problems ?

Ive never seen that issue come up. Sorry i couldnt help but will keep an eye out for that issue. Id highly suggest going to bluetooth reader and forscan method. 30 dollar investment to have a much more detailed diagnostic. Just my opinion

Blue driver picks them up but there 100 bucks but works great that’s how I found out mine

I'm having sort of the same issues but mine has an electronic humming coming from the transmission I can unhook positive battery cable and hook it right back up and it goes away and battery won't drain. Dealer said it was a bad lead frame and solenoid spent 1300 and had new valve body kit put in and it still does it. Do you think the ignition switch would cause this issue

I cant say I ever had the trans issue... But the the igntion switch is shorting, and with everything electrical in vehicles these days, it may be playing havoc with other modules. Im no mechanic so I'd definitely get more opinions. Good luck!

If you're having the same issue, a 30 dollar switch would be a good cheap potential fix. Worse case scenario youre only out 30 vs a dealership trying to charge you 400, and you have a new switch haha

So it’s been a year...... still all good? Mine has done this battery drain thing 3 times in 8 years. But seems to be getting worse. The gauges have been funky since new when I jiggle the keys. I assume you had the same issues?

Havent had any issues since the fix. And yes that key jiggle and cluster actifng weird was always happening. I should have recorded it before I swapped the part. The switch contacts go bad or lose their tolerance, and causes intermittent contact.

When you replaced the ignition switch did you have to a new key programmed? Also I just the cylinder lock, it wasn't bad all. You just have to place the tumblers in the new one in the same order as old one

The issue I had was weird sometimes. One day the battery would be flat. The next day fine. Then at times it would act like a dead battery, And 2 turns later it would slugishly turn over. This is why i highly suggest spending the 40 bucks and getting the Bluetooth scanner and forscan. There could be some underlying issues like the non light code I found.

Do you have a recommendation for the scanner that works with iphone?

I'm not sure. If you are experiencing similar issues, it may be worth trying to replace the part. I'd assume the process and location of the module are similar. Good luck, and let us know what you find out

It's been so long I honestly don't remember the socket sizes and order. This was the only time I ever had to take those panels and column shroud off

What way your symptoms? My keys sticks in the start position and starter keep going. Sometimes it won't start, like the starter is not engaging. Sometimes the key stick in the start position. Help if you can.

I have never had that issue. sounds like its the tumbler get bound up somehow when your turning they key. I dont know how to rebuild the lock cylinders, so id suggest having a dealership look at it. Or buy a rebuild kit yourself. Good luck!

the batterey would act like it was dead, but intermittently. But the battery would be fine. When inserting the key into the ignition, you could move it around, and the cluster/dash lights along with the door chime would glitch on and off.

So its been a year, and all is well. And as much as i hate the BMS on these, they do prevent battery overcharge issues. So it's up to you if you keep it connected. Make sure to reset the BMS module whenever you replace the battery, and you shouldn't have an issue

I’m having sort of the same issue. My 2014 f150 truck will turn on all power but not start and say “start system fault.” I just recently purchased this truck and it came with an aftermarket remote start, when I try turning on the truck with the remote start it starts with no issues. Could the ignition switch be my problem?

@@tristanmckinney7404 Ive never dealt with remote start. But if the remote is working but the key use is causing the issue. there is a chance. May be worth the few bucks to do it and find out. cant hurt. This is where forscan helps finding the hidden no light codes. without it i would never have guessed it was that switch.

Yes. After replacing the switch, the code was gone from the scan, and have not had an issue since

My battery would die sometimes every 3 days, sometimes from the time parked at work and left 8 hours later. I can't find ANYTHING that is wrong, no Amp draw in the elec system, not nothing. Alternator is good, everything seems good. Absolutely no lights on or anything when truck is off either. Is this what yours was doing? Any other symptoms you had?

Exact symptoms! It was completely random. That ignition switch would fail and cause that "Circuit Short To Ground or Open". The only other thing i have found is that the battery monitoring system (BMS) would try to turn on the the alternator even what the truck was off. Smart tech right? From my understanding, if you replace your battery and don't reset the BMS, it will think you battery is still at the old bad battery levels, and try turning on the alternator to charge, and cause the parasitic draw. There is a video somewhere here on YT i think from South Main Auto Repair. He leaves it sitting over 8 hours, comes back with a thermal camera and the alternator is glowing

My 2014 f150 kills my battery every few weeks after sitting all day at work. Jump it and is fine.

did you end up doing the tumbler as well or did this solve the jiggle problem too?

Havent done the tumbler swap as this switch fixed all of my electrical issues. But yes it does still have that little bit of play.

Just replaced mine on my 2010 F150. My gauges, instrument cluster would go black randomly. Would stop and restart and it would work fine. But then... One day while getting gas the truck was dead. I could hear clicking in the fuse box and I tried to jump start it but it wouldn't start. Load tested the battery but the battery was fine. Luckily someone smarter than me suspected it was an ignition issue. Picked up an ignition switch from Oreillys for $42.00 and installed it. Back on the road again!

Replaced the switch, Aligned the Switch, Aligned the Switch again (Easier with Key inserted) Ding Ding but No Starty Start.. Same Sh!t I hate this Truck (2014 F-150 STX 5.0)

Chances are this it's more than this switch then. I haven't had any additional issues.

I am having the same issue with my 2013 F-150, I feel that the door chime and loose play are associated with battery drain. Also my gauge lights would flicker along with my door chime. Did the Ignition Switch replacement fix the intermittent door chime?

Since replacing this switch, the glitchy cluster and chime have all stopped. Havent had anymore drain issues either. But the summer is only beginning. I only mention summer because thats when the problem would pop back up. something about very hot cabin temps (110+) seems to be when the switches fail.

Ok thanks, gives me some confidence. I just bought this truck a week ago and headed on a 6 hour away vacation on Saturday with it... I guess ill be unhooking my battery every night just in case! If you have anymore issues, i would look at replacing the key cylinder and the rod between. I may just do all of it before i leave. Good video!

by the way mine failed parked in a garage 80-85 degrees. the key was in the ignition.

@@jesse7769 Thanks. The cylinder has always been lose, so thats something on the agenda as well. Im currently battling intermittent cooling on the AC... Done all the basic checks and fixes. Looks like it may come down to evap replacement. Not looking forward to that bill :(

@@ezshifty today my car stop to start... how you guys determine battrry drain??.. i guess was a batery issue... use a booster and car start again... end up buying a new battery... altenator fine tested... i have also some play in the key Cylinder if you wiggle a bit the driver dash light goes on w/o turning the key??? .... 2 months ago car doest start and said starting systen failure... ford dealer didnt know what cause the issue and they reprogram bcm and make a new key i had just one and change some batery wires... I used the blue driver scanner and b10f1 code reports... but no engine ligth show on my dashboard... any idea???... After watch manny videos i guess this was causing the first issue perhaps.. but i dont understand ford dealer didnt see it... we all know those guys are not honest... but come on..

what was the code it was spitting out?
