2013 Dodge Durango vs Chevy Traverse Muddy Off-Road Mashup Review (Part 1)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2013 Dodge Durango and Chevy Traverse are both three row family haulers that directly compete against each other in the market place. The Dodge Durango is a butch and brawny AWD Crossover based on a stretched Jeep Grand platform while the brand new Chevrolet Traverse is one of Chevy's best selling family haulers. Both of these vehicles can be had with all-wheel-drive, but they are really not designed to go boulder bashing in the Colorado Mountains. Never-the-less, we wanted to find out how they do when the road gets rocky in this first part of another fun and informative TFLcar Mashup review.

the Russian to English banter banter is the best thing ever.
Not sure why they never mention the Durango comes with an excellent V-6.
Wow, they went over some speed bumps and a 6 inch incline. Oh, and don't forget the 2 inches of mud they drove through. So off road capable. Lol
i love that u guys are the only auto channel taking these crossovers off road; keep it up!!!
I like when y'all guess separate videos into different segments. Sometimes I don't have time to watch an entire 14 minute video, or I get bored. But when the videos are separated I seem to have time to click as apposed to searching for the video and then trying to remember where I left off at. Thanks guys keep up the good work.
Thank you Roman, Nathan, and Andre for this! I have been waiting for you guys to do an off-road review on the Durango! :-)
I have my 2012 Durango with the 3.6 liter V6 and haven't had as much as a squeak from it yet. Just beautiful smooth riding and great handling. Just before that I had a 2006 Dakota for six years and it never needed as much as a light bulb. I had an '87 Escort GT for 12 years and it cost me only $300.00 in repairs for the entire time I had it. I had two Hondas. One needed three transmissions in five years and new bulb for its headlights every month. The other always needed new lights and brakes.
Where was this filmed (the trail)
Because we can. Because it is fun to watch and because people will take them off-road.
This should have been listed as "2013 Dodge Durango review with a casual Chevy Traverse mention"
Is it me or is the comparative overtones skewed towards the Durango. I owned a Durango before but had to trade it in when the cost of driving was 2x my monthly car payments. Thanks Exxon & BP.
are you talking about a metal housing and it has a paper cartridge inside? Is the filter next to the top of the engine.
@Andre LADA Niva is goin' back in Canada next year its your chance to get one
I own a 2011 dodge Ram 5.7 390HP Hemi that gets 20 MPG. My wife owns a 2013 dodge Durango V6 that gets 25 MPG. I love them both; however, the Durango is Sexy.
i greatly appreciate that you take crossovers offroad, crossovers should have some offroad ability to become better than minivans,by the way please mashup dodge grand caravan with one of these crossovers.take both them offroad as well and which will be interesting to watch
Actually, the V6 Chevy doesn't sound too bad, but that Hemi sounds like, it kicks ass.

I actually saw them live and it was awesome!!
Man, those water puddle had no change!!! So badass
Nice. It will be interesting to see what it looks like.
My 1999 5.9L sounds amazing too!! It's a sleeper; only saying V8 on the front sides, but fast as hell as its an SLT w/4x4 AND tow package, lol. But, itll tow 10,000 lbs. stock! I love it!! I'm gna restore it one day as the interior is getting thrashed cause im not using it as a daily driver right now.
Yes Thank YOU Finally durango offroad i love you guys
The Durango does have a real transfer case. It is the same TC from the Grand Cherokee - the Quadra Trac II.
I'll read up about the durango's awd system. So I guess it's beefier than others like the explorer and the acadia. If you want good towing and power I guess the Durango is better than the other crossovers. It's still not a true truck platform like the previous durango though. No ground clearance either.
is this the same track you guys almost wiped out the ford escape? can you get the ford back and do this vs the chevy?
the durango is a beast my neighbor has one. I love watching it come out of snow when it's all cover up. As for the jetta does it have a drain plug?If it does you don't have to take it to the dealer and you don't have to buy vw oil. You can go to the jetta forms and find out what the guys that have your car use. Probably KZread has some videos too. VW,honda, toyota or any brand does not make parts or oil. They source it from brands like gates, denso,AC delco etc.
Front biased AWD V6 vs Rear biased V8 I think you know what's gonna win
Rush is where's its at man... Best band of ALL TIME!!!
nice video and nice comparo..i like TFL..
Great RUSH shirt!
Love the guys shirt!!! Omg RUSH!!!!!
I was referring to all the recent recalls that Toyota has had, and also the fact that the last two winners of Motor Trend's Truck Of The Year were the Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500.
sweet Rush shirt man!
You should do a muddy off-road review/comparison between the Honda CRV, Ford Escape, Mazda CX5 and the RAV 5.
2013 Dodge Durango hemi rocks! Got top of the line at a great price. Looks awesome in black, sexy.
I'll take a 1984 Jeep Cj7 if I wanna go off-road.
So what's the difference between Durango's low range facility and the "normal" low range transfer cases that makes it worse than a Niva?
@jorgeluisburgoacosio9998
6 жыл бұрын
Boris Boyanov its a fake low range like a extra gear under 1st so its like 30% or so on increase a propper two speed transfer case has a 2.7 or 3.15 gear reduction (like 200% of increase)
You guys should do a 1st gen durango off road vs the 3rd gen ;)
The Dodge Grand Caravan can go Off-Road 2 they're all wheel drive but 2017 idk
Hey, the Mercedes GL class has the same platform that the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Dodge Durango have.

I can affirm that from experience. I'm back to American all the way. I had my experience with a bad Honda too. Anyone can stink it up so I figure we might as well support ourselves!

Cool video. Durango is very handsome, I like it.
What Dodge should have done with this redesign is keep the 4wd, and give it air suspension. That way you can have the best of both worlds: keep vehicle low when on road to save gas, then raise it when going off road to have fun, and then have an off road tire option with it.

They want you to buy the Jeep if you want to go off-roading.
Attention Durango shoppers - you can opt for the standard 3.6 L Pentastar engine if you want more than 15 mpg from the HEMI V8.
nice rush shirt!
My heart stands with the V8 Hemi powered Durango.
Andre .. long time no see
The base bottom of the line six cylinder Durango is more fun to drive than 95 % of the SUVs out there. It is balanced has good steering feel and very little body roll. It is not that heavy to be such a large SUV. It shocked me.You can get a 4wd base for the low 30's in the real world. Now with the 8 speed Auto on the six it is one hell of a value. Yes I would rather have the beautiful sounding Hemi. If you have a large family it is the way to go. I love my X3, I could be happy with the Durango.
A hemi v8? Dodge still doesn't get it do they?
i want to see a 0-60 of these!!!
Both very nice cars, personally I think I would still take the explorer. I just like Fords and I don't think I'd use it for offroad much, but if i wanted a vehicle for that id buy an expedition or f150.
amen props to u dude.
Durango. It's always durango. :) loovvee them!!!
y'all need to review the new one.2014 dodge durango
Getting vehicles muddy on TFLcar = successful snow melt.
That's right, Roman is Czech and he can somewhat understand Andre.
There was talks of chrysler replacing the durango with the wagoneer. It was supposed to come back this year but I guess they canned the project.
would have been good to see the explorer sport with the durango and chevy, off road and zero to 60
And now we have hell cats and modded Durango’s!!!
It is a shame Chevy stopped making the blazer. That was such a good truck. I have a 97 4x4 ls and I love it.... 4.3 vortec engine. 190 hp and 250 lb tq
The Durango was the vehicle featured in part 1. Hold your horses for the Traverse in part 2.
I confuse easily these days .... 19 v. 15 mpg ???? .... what the heck...both seem pretty average to me .... if you're really concerned about mpg .... buy a prius .... the only car that gets "good" mpg
Besides that Nice video
Exactly, Honda had many transmission issues in the early 2000s. The new Durangos appear to be tough vehicles and now the gas mileage is good enough that I wont consider the minivan.
The Durango is rear wheel drive and Naturally Asperated Engines - Very straight forward to work on and info is readily available. My 2012 Jetta TDI is awful to work on largely because VW won't give FUSE diagrams(?!?!) or basic repair info. An oil change at the dealer is $149 including the fuel filter that must be replaced every 20k!!! You have to buy the oil from VW etc. - my last one!!
Foot was all the way to the floor on both. Both are rev-limited in park.
I'd rather watch you do a review of that green jeep that went by at 5:58
2:54 SCRATCH! lol
Chrysler was supposed to develop a 4.0 V6 pentastar which would have been a nice alternative to the Hemi especially if they would pull another 200 lbs out at the same time.
Great mashup guys. The Durango is way more stylish than the Traverse. I do have a question though, why do you guys know Russian?
The Traverse has a transverse mounted engine and a drivetrain like an AWD minivian but not the Durango. The 2014 Durango has the same V6/V8 & 8 speed as in the RAM so you're wrong about the Durango. The Durango is rated to tow 7400 lbs and has a 2 sp transfer case for 4wd.
Toyota has been doing recalls since the 80's; it doesn't mean the trucks are unreliable. I think I would still buy a Toyota truck just for the reliability record which is, after all is said and done, what a truck is really about.
It’s crazy how dodge still sells these vehicles man
@coolsquad7428

Its actually selling good
We have the 09 traverse
sooo, you used a r/t thats not even made for offroading? maybe use the trail rated model next time
@TheCash311
8 жыл бұрын
there is no trail rated version. This is not a jeep.
The cruze engine was awhile ago but i would have gladly taken a video. How would you know its the most reliable 4 banger on the market?Internet info? If you want to base your info on the internet look up consumer reports. Japaneses car win. As i said before the trucks last but the cars dont. And my friend had a 05 matrix 180000 miles only the water pump changed.
Sure, that's why the Ford F-150 was named Motor Trend's truck of the year in 2012 and the Ram 1500 was named Truck of the year in 2013, huh? And of course, I find any company that recalls as many cars as Toyota has recently "exotic." Who wouldn't? :P
Guys, I love your reviews and watch all your videos. Love you guys and your work but Andre has got to go.
For those who arnt aware the Durango is based on the mid 2000s Mercedes gl450. Not a bad thing it just makes the traverse more American
@coolsquad7428

No its not it is useing a WK2 plate form
The 6 cylinder 4x4 Durango also gets 19 mpg combined, so apples to apples is about the same.
Durango vs. a f'ing Traverse? Is that a serious comparison? The Durango is a true SUV.
@bajagill

OrangeDiamond Barbarossa ...the Durango WAS a serious SUV. I have 1st gen. all stock SLT 4x4 that we have driven for 7ish years. No hemi hot rod, just the 5.2. It offroads pretty decent but it is still pretty fragile even when compared to most 1/2T pickups. You're better off tiptoeing through obstacles than horsing through. While I was able to put on a set of 32s with no lift, it soon became obvious that the Durango was not intended for anything really approaching serious offroading. More of a grocery getter than the image they used to sell them.
Yeah, because the f150 didn't have a recall a year or so ago dealing with the fuel tank straps corroding and causing the fucking fuel tank to fall off. Recalled a million trucks if I remember. Hell, just 2 weeks ago, Chrysler recalled a bunch of rams because the parking brakes don't hold properly. And 2 months before that they were recalled for axle problems.
You guys need to rev them harder to hear the cars full sound!
So what's the point? You see recalls on all car manufacturers, foreign and domestic.
I know that this video is made for most likely entertainment purposes only, but let's get real here ... if you wanted a SUV that had off-road capabilities and you know that you're going to be going off-road, a smart person with common sense would get a vehicle that's made for that. Not saying that the Traverse and Durango aren't made for that, but they're meant to be everyday drivers that drop the kids off and pick up groceries. If you wanted an off-road SUV why not choose a SUV that's made for off-roading such as Jeep or even the new Tahoe or Suburban which have the option of the Z71 package. Just saying, it's my opinion, even though I know this is mainly for entertainment purposes.

+TrapBird (Camaro Girl) Thats your opinion but when you have 3-4 kids lets see you haul them in an jeep I tried no worky. A tahoe Yeah maybe buts its capabilities are not that much better than the Travers unless you lift it. Z71 package? Yeah not impressed just a little more ground clearance and still comes with crappy tires. Throw some MT on the Traverse and it will out do an stock jeep/tahoe, I know because I had many jacked up jeeps and its not the suspension but the tires that will make then difference in mud. Been thinking I may trade my truck and pay cash for an traverse. It will be used for hauling kids and mild offroad if needed. If I want to mud/heavy offroad I will go get the bogger thats what its for. The Traverse will haul all the kids and tow the dirtbikes/quads on mild offroad no problem. Its funny how every one thinks they are an hardcore offroader but actually do not even go everyday. There no point of paying 50k for an suburban then still having to lift it and put tires on it just to do that same stuff you can do in an the Traverse with MT's. Waste of money to look cool, and still get stuck,

inacrysis I understand that and I'm just stating what I personally know from experience. My dads had Jeep's when I was growing up and that hauled the family with ease and got my parents to the top of the Adirondacks and would haul our pop-up trailer when we went camping. Then we got a pickup and used that instead for hauling things around. My mom has a Traverse and she loves it for many reasons (good in the winter, sturdy and safe, cargo space, etc.) but we just always use my dad's Silverado when hauling something. I'm sure my mom's Traverse is more than capable of doing what you'd use it for, but we just use that more for everyday things and road trips. Everyone is different and will use things different ways and that's totally fine. Good luck in the future with everything, Traverses are very nice SUVs :)

Lol and like the wind I have changed again now thinking about the Pilot, I like their awd system. It will wear some toyo mts on another set of wheels and be an load of fun on mild offroad getting to the bike areas. But I do agree if you going rock crawling you caint beat an jeep, but in the city where 70-90% of the life of the care will be no jeep can beat a traverse or the like. Every jeep I have owned was an beast offroad and horrible at speed on road. I had all the fixings you can buy but still road like an jeep, crosswinds, loud cabin, rough ride, sqeaks from rocks etc I just do not want to drive an soap box anymore, so now I want comfort and mild offroad ability than an hardcore daily driver. When I had my jeep and two kids my son was 3 and he would nearly kick me in the head it was so close back there. I need more space than an jeep can offer, right now, it was all fine when I was younger but now different paths in my life, have fun be safe out there.
Not according to Chrysler. They just updated the Durango with an 8-speed automatic transmission and new racing taillights that are similar to the Charger, and given it a total overhaul. Not the kind of thing you do to a discontinued model.
Я ХОЧУ ГРЯЯЯЗЬЬ!!!! )) Nice video!
The Durango is a Daddy van and the Traverse is a Mommy van. This Durango looks way better than the last gen. Last one was a fat van.
I had a Mercedes S Class and when the A/C system went it cost $7000.00 to repair then a few month later the heating system cost $3000.00 to fix. The starter was $700.00 and the alternator $1200.00. My V.W. always had fuel and electrical system problems. I still don't know why people rag on American cars. I've had better luck with them than imports!
I would like to say that I love your videos, but I think you should improve your title sequence a bit, maybe sweeten/shorten it and add some continuity? Seems to cut off what you're saying commonly and feel dragged out, like the intro sequence is always an annoying part of the video. Just a hint to make your videos even better, keep up the work!
Durango!
why doesnt dodge put the 8 speed on the durango? i can't believe they're still selling a car with 13mpg
The rt is lowed if they got a Citadel it would be higher

the V6 is the standard engine option...
Road Safety, Your safety Dodge Durango
The durango actually comes with a V6 in lower trims. The V8 is an option offered to those who want performance and power, which i, being american, prefer....
Don't get me wrong I like the traverse I have driven one but it just doesn't stack up to the durango. Having said that I am one of the people who will stick to the old first gen durango (98-03). While the new one does look awesome and has a great interior it just doesn't do it for me. The current 2003 durango I own has a higher towing capacity, AWD with lockers, and a proper low range gear box. Oh and it also has 200,000 miles on it, I don't see the new gens making it that far without problems.
