I SWEAR . . . Joan is not afraid of ANYTHING!!! He doesn't limit his kids' experiences to traditional big band libraries, but brings in plectrum banjo and New Orleans style right along side big band swing. And I love seeing kids cross over on instruments that traditional "intelligence" says the embouchure are not compatible (brass/reed., etc) . Keep 'em coming Joan . . . you're doing something VERY right!!

Probably the best version of China Boy the band did, so joyful and lively, all solos perfect - that must have been a great day, since the Minor Swing they did the same day was every bit as good. House of the happy feet!

"China boy", a lively classic from the SAJB, ideal for kids to show off with solos for everyone. And there we have them, from the "older" Eva and Andrea to the little ones, the Armengou sisters, enjoying themselves like children. Just like Scott Hamilton, who when he meets these kids becomes one of them, even Josep Traver playing the banjo Carla Motis style, not to be missed.

When the piece was over, I thought, "My God, that kid could have gone out that afternoon and earned a decent living as a jazz guitarist." When the video was made, she was 12 years old! In her own inconspicuous way, she has every bit as much talent and dedication as her older sister. One of my least happy thoughts these days is that she already is old enough to leave the band.
