2013 Chevy Express Shift Linkage Cable Replacement

My shifter inside the van was not allowing me to put my van in gear. Problem ended up being a broken bushing on the shift linkage at the transmission. I purchased the new cable from the Chevrolet dealership and replaced it.
The only tools I used for this job were a flat screw driver and needle nosed pliers.
The job took about an hour and it was a little difficult. Mostly due to the small copper clip that holds the male end of the cable in place.
Thanks for watching, and thank you for the support!

Great video. Thank you. One thing i did was i installed the brass retainer in the slot first and then inserted the conical pat of the cable. It locked in on its own.

You’re the man!!! Dumb jerk at the stealership parts counter told me specifically NOT to remove any clips where the cables join!!! It absolutely never would have come apart without removing that plastic piece and the small/crazy metal clip. Thanks so much 🤘🏼

Thanks for the great video! This happened on my 2014 Chevy Express today. I stopped at the GM dealer and they made me buy the top cable also, saying that because of an upgrade that I would have to replace both cables. Watching your video will definitely save me a lot of time! Thank you!

Nice video. Wish I had found it before doing the job. I had the same thing just happen to my 2010 Express. Bought the same new OEM. Did exactly as you did. Not seeing your video until after the fact. PIA at the connector and that small clip. Worked for about a week. Now not again. I haven’t torn it apart but suspect in that connector the clip did not stay engaged. I had put it back together reversing how I took it apart. Meaning I slipped the conical cable end into the other half, then inserted the little clip into the slot. I am now thinking on the the assembly line this was a push together, snap lock action. The little clip needs to be inserted in the slot before engaging the two halves of the connector. In hindsight I wished I had bought one of the several aftermarket bushing repair kits for about $15 and never messed with that connector that joins the upper shift cable to the lower shift cable. Waiting for the weather to warm up to tackle that again. Whomever designed that connector has no concept of EZ repairs later. UPDATE: Before you take the connector apart, mark the depth of how far the lower cable connector is up inside the upper cable. Mine looked like it had threads. In reality they were fine rings that engage with the white plastic retaining clip you will be pulling out. To reconnect the two halves. First reinsert the little clip into the conical female wire cable accepter on the upper cable side. Slide the clip all the way back onto the two cut slots. Reach in and pinch the clip closed as much as possible with needle nose. You most lightly sprung it a touch pulling it off. I did. Once the clip is back in place on the female side. Push the lower cable end, which has a male conical tip into the upper cable female conical+retainer clip. Push it together with some force. The male point will slide through the clip expanding it. Once the male portion is inserted far enough the clip will pass the 90° base of the male and lock the two cables together. You should be able to tug hard and it won’t come apart. Once you have that in place. Push the white plastic latch clip back in place that engages the thread like rings of the lower cable part. Then slide the spring loaded sleeve back over the white plastic latching clip.
