Being fair to the Toyota Yaris, for what it is, you're actually getting a lot. It's an economical car. It drinks gas sparingly. It has good room in the front. And it has acceptable back seat space And don't forget about Toyota's badge of reliability. If you just want a basic and reliable car that gets you around and doesn't drink much gas, the Toyota Yaris may very well be for you.

Best car I have driven. It is reliable, it is easy to drive, has a backing camera. It is easy to park. It is just making things so convenient.

The Toyota Yaris is a very humble small car that won't let you down because of how well it's made.

I have a 2008 Yaris Hatch and have been very happy with it. This new version had the added benefits of 8 air bags and traction control for around the same price. They keep refining this cheap, economical to purchase and drive car making it even better value all the time. And it keeps getting better to look at. Vehicles are a terrible investment, but this one won't break the bank.

I have my 2014 4X4 Cummins diesel RAM2500 in for repair right now and they gave me a Yaris for a rental. I absolutely LOVE driving this around town! I'm super pleased with it and i'd seriously look into buying one if I could. I feel the car does a perfect job around town and is very roomy in the inside. I give it two thumbs up!

I also drove a Yaris as a rental but now I am looking to buy one. The reliability, economy and low maintenance costs are just to appealing to pass up.

I regularly get 40-42mpg out of my 5 speed 5 door, these are brilliant little cars.

The best 2012 review of the Yaris I have seen, I’ve watched 6. No one else addressed the horrible ride quality of the first gen Yaris. Was hoping to hear if this rode more smoothly and you addressed that😊. Thanks!

I have the 2010 of this car with the stick and I get 41-44MPG mixed all the time. Winter gas drops me down to 39-41MPG. I really like this cars. One cool thing is the turning radius. You basically spin on your rear wheel which is nice for tight parking lots or pulling U-turns instead of 3-way turns. Nice car.

Bottom line; you're paying for a Toyota not some cheapo Korea car that won't last. I have a 2008 Yaris with 52,000mi on it and its a blast to drive. I have the 4 speed auto and it's just fine. Why the obsession with the 5 or 6 speeds? That SE version is a real looker and has all the goodies right out the door. Also, thanks for not totally bashing this car!

The Toyota dependability that comes with the Yaris is the thing that make it step out of the group.

With you all the way...just being a Toyota is more than enough of a reason to consider this car...

What you neglected to mention is, Toyota uses ultra premium parts. The metals and other elements used are harder and built better than with any other brand, and that is what you are paying for with Toyota. Sometimes it is better to get something with less updates/features in order to get top notch build quality. Toyota would have had to sacrifice build quality in some areas to justify spending money on updating the Yaris to the level of other brands, and Toyota fans should not want that.

I went on a long roadtrip in a Prius and when I got back and returned to my Yaris, it felt like a Bugatti Veyron.

Honest assessment from an owner: As a college student I had (have) a very limited budget so my choices in a new vehicle were very limited. The Koreans have some appealing entries but I'd feel safer giving them another decade to prove long-term reliability and build quality The Yaris offered the best mix of low purchase price ($15,200 all said and done), build quality, and expected resale value. Demanded the 5 speed manual over the archaic auto. The manual makes it plenty peppy around town, and it can keep up with traffic at 75-80mph on the highway without breaking a sweat, though engine and road noise is high. Definitely not a car to take on a long road trip but meets 90% of my needs for daily transportation. Also, my fuel economy has averaged just over 36mpg, higher than the 33mpg on the sticker (manual). I'd say to people interested, go with the base L model; better choices are available over the LE and SE in those price points.

@@pyrobot3728 I finally traded mine in at 150k miles, but only because the car was so small I was getting lost in people's mirrors and when they would change lanes on the highway, they nearly moved right into me. I moved up to a much larger vehicle - a Corolla 😆.

@@bobt5778 That's crazy, gave my yaris to my dad and I now own a corolla as well. That one's sitting at around 145k miles. LOL.

What I care about more than anything is the yearly operational cost (removing gas and maintenance). The Yaris is one of the lowest/yr. I've heard of 300K+ miles out of these cars before they eat into you...I can live with that.

The Honda Fit has rock hard dependability also...plus its fuel efficient, roomy front and back seat, max cargo over 50 cubic feet, and has a sporty ride...and they are priced equally...oh and the Fit has a 5 speed...4 speed really lol

This Yaris is more reliable than the fit. The Toyota engine is very old...proven

Cause of its price, it should've been sold as a scion

yaris is the best

yaris looks much nicer now and with over 100hp is acutually fun to drive around town cuz u can floor every traffic light and it still give u the gas mileage as u were driving normally in a corolla. but you ll never bring this car to highway it ll just sway a bit if u pass large trucks....thats why i hate toyota making cars very light and it just feel+ actually dangerous when u travel at highspeed. Yaris is a good car, but i still choose a fiesta

Then dont drive it 100mph on the highway and you wont fly off the road from hitting a pot hole and youll be fine. Its not necessary to drive at high speeds. You cray-cray!

electrabot no, not 100mph, My friend has one and i drive it in 100km/h and the car sway whenever i m passing a truck or other truck pass me. they put skinny tires and make the car tall and light for visibility and gas mileage, that is why when theres a side wind like passing a truck, it sways alot. i drive a courtesy fiat 500 and it doesnt have that problem, consider that is a even smaller and lighter car.

Hey James, can you reply with an update on your Fiesta? I also looked at that car but was put off by the low reliability rating.

So do not hesitiate to use D to D3 and pass the Ferrari in the next lane struck up in the jam! Just imagine you spending in a very cheap car and you are getting most that an expensive car is offering in city traffic and "LEGAL SPEED". You have the same right on the road as a ferrari,but he is paying heaps more, not to say the troublesome maintaince. I am now even targeting a smaller and more economical car the suzuki alto auto, cheaper to owe less power, meaning you have to floor the acc more

i drive a 1999 4cyl 4runner. its doing great. Its my dad first car. i get 20mpg. i get my rating from fuelly. i just submit the data

4 speed automatic? What is this, 1960? Anyway you'd get much better mileage with the manual, whereas with dual clutch systems you get better mileage. They charge too much for this car.

Automatics can be more efficient, but not at this price point.

I love my 3 door hatch yaris 2007! However, it's a deathtrap. I didn't realize this until I had a baby and realized, hmm... the car seats don't fit right... Then I did some research. This car is NOT safe!
