I'm planning to keep my vstrom for quite some time. Judging by how reliable it is, I believe I can get it way past 100,000 miles with ease and 150K is within reach without any major problems other than regular maintenance

2012 V-Strom 650 was a first bike I bought my 16 year old kid as his daily high school commuter, in 2017. He loved it ! Summer, fall, winter, spring, the weather didn’t matter at all. Right gear and he was always happy. 😁 Last year my kid moved on into 2012 Honda Fury, and now the V-Strom sits in the garage all neglected. Time to revive the beast and put it on the road again ! 😁 It’s still in a relatively good shape, besides electrical problem (the cluster doesn’t work). Happy trails my brother !!!

I now have 75K on her and continues to be reliable as ever. I've taken her on mild offroad trips as well and have gone on 4x4 roads that aren't too technical. It's a heavy bike offload

NIce vid. I often wonder why people bother with throttle locks when electronic cruise control is so much better and only requires a couple of hours to install. My Goldwing came with it and liked it so much that I put it on my 650 Burgman. And now the DL650 has it too. So nice to have. 👍

@@sdoo7441 They do not work just fine for me. At least not for more than a few seconds before you to adjust the throttle again. They are better than nothing I suppose but oh Lord I would hate to have to go back to a throttle lock now.

My 2013 model has a similar mileage to yours, but I did 43,000 of those miles riding it around the world two up. Spent a week in Napa Valley on our way round. Off to ride the NC500 around the top of Scotland tomorrow.

I basically ride up Dry Creek Road and down Oakville Grade. On to hwy 128 to Lake Berryessa and back on hwy 121 to Napa. Great motorcycle roads up here except on weekends when it gets a bit crowded with RVs during the summer months and traffic heading to Lake Berryessa

I've been looking at it for a first bike and by all accounts it's bulletproof. Only bad thing is having to lift the gas tank to access the air filter (which you almost never have to do, unless riding in very dusty offroad conditions). High mileage is common for these because they are reported to just run forever on regular maintenance.

Enjoyed the informative video and entertaining video with excellent content and production but let's be real here we're talking Wee Strom not V Strom as I owned and road a '07 V 1000 Strom which left a lot to be desired in on road and off road situations also had oil leaks associated with the main oil gallery pressure on the countershaft seal to lubricate the transmission (poor design) which dumped oil on the cross over pipe under the frame which ignited from the catalyst on the freeway at 80mph it truly was a hot running bike. YMMV

The 650 wee ström has no overheating issues. In fact, after 75K miles, I had NO issues what do ever. Just general maintenance. It's such a reliable engine. It is very limited as far as off road capability as the 6" ground clearance and weight makes it a handful offload other than mild 4x4 and fire roads

I’m looking to buy a 2012 Vstrom 650 with 32k miles now. I’m comparing it to a 2015 BMW G650GS with 16k miles. I know the Suzuki has more power and is bigger and smoother, but there is something about the Beemer that I like, especially for a knock around town bike. Hard decision.

I love the Vstrom 650. A friend of mind had a BMW 650 GS. Of the two, the vstrom is a better highway and street bike with limited offload ability; fireroads and mild single track are OK. Anything more is a challenge due to the weight and limited ground clearance. The BMW is more dirt oriented and is buzzy on the highways. The BMW is lighter with better ground clearance for dirt rides, but can be uncomfortable on the highways for long distance rides. The suzuki can carry a passenger with ease. The BMW is a bit uncomfortable for a passenger. Hope this helps your decision.

If you go offload, you need the baseplate and side guards. I've crashed enough offroad to prove they save the bike's body parts. I also have plentry of dents and damage on my bash plate from going over rocks and downed trees
