The new ones may be better to drive, more efficient, and better off road - but a 62 plate Westminster is still the one I would go for, even against a brand new one off the dealer forecourt. The best Range Rover ever got. Top work as always Barrie!

If I can throw in my two bobs worth, I know improvements were made between 2002-2012 but many of the basic issues are shared, so my experience with a 2002 TDV6 (yes the BMW engine) might be of interest. I bought it in Latvia and only use it when I'm in Europe, drive twice a year across Europe (2400 miles round trip) and use it when skiing in Austria, so around 5000 miles PA tops. Bought in 2010 for 13000 Euros with 230,000 KM on the clock. Since then: Recon gearbox, new turbo, fuel pump, wiper motor, discs all round, handbrake assembly (last items probably because it stands for months,) brake pipe, suspension bushes, front air suspension bags (obviously) and touching up the minor scratches and scuffs it came with. Total repairs around 16000 Euros, but spread over 11 years, making a total outl;ay including purchase of 29,000 Euros which over 11 years begins to sound rather better. Go into it with your eyes open, allow for the repair and maintenance costs which are offset by cheap purchase price and then it's worth it. Don't expect to cut corners on maintenance, this truck needs to be maintained and issues nipped in the bud, evenpre-empted; II had mine extensively rustprooofed (Krown treatment, even injected into panels etc) and steam cleaned every Spring, and it's paid off, arresting and preventing corrosion. With moderate mileage and an uninhibited approach to maintenance and repairs you will reach a "plateau" where most significant issues will have been dealt with and the annual costs tail off to a reasonable level; I've reached that point now but still know I need to budget for things. The driveshaft coupling issue is a common one I've yet to face, and the money is waiting in the bank! But it's all worth it, this is an amazing vehicle for long distance comfort and when I switch to the winter tyres (Continental T850 Winter Contact) it's unstoppable on snow and ice. LOVE IT. The 3.0 BMW unit works fine for me, some say underpowered but I'm not a speed merchant and it does everything I need, returning an average of 30mpg on my trans-Europe runs. A bit noisier than the bigger engined more recent models but no biggie. f I buy one for the UK it will probably be the 3.6 or 4.4 TDV8. But my Toyota Land Cruiser (equally awesome in its own way) simply won't give up so I've no idea when that will be!

I really want to buy a Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8 L322. Are they a good buy as a family car ?? I know all the common issues like the air suspension but I know many people who will happily work on these cars and I don't care about the running costs because I have heated that they are amazing cars. They much cheaper to buy than the L405. Do you reccomed them.
