    Great review, I have an 06 R52 (convertible) S and you are exactly right about the fun factor and the joy of ownership. I work on the thing all the time and now I want a used Countryman for winter. This may have sold me again! Much appreciated

    I really want to drive a manual one again, the auto was really good but when I drove one with a manual it was all smiles.

    I have the 2012 Countryman Cooper S with manual transmission and I have to say it’s been one of my favorite cars to have. Like he says yes not the most reliable but definitely puts a smile on your face when you down shift and fly past people

    It's odd to see a Countryman ALL4 S with a sun roof, navigation but WITHOUT heated seats (at least there didn't appear to have the button for them in the center stack) or without projector headlights - that (I think) goes back to when you truly could customize your Mini builds - today you have your choice of only option packages and only a very few individual options (such as bonnet stripes and roof color. Find a good independent repair shop that works on German brands (yes, I know that this model is made either in Austria or the Netherlands but it has a lot in common with BMWs) and you might be surprised that it's not too expensive to get those warning lights addressed.

    I bought the same car, it sounds like the gearing is grinding. I'm beginning to think it might have a broken motor mount or something. Do you have any recommendations before I get skinned alive taking it into shop?

  • @CruiseControl1

    @CruiseControl1

    If it is a broken motor mount that will not cost much to replace. Are you able to visually inspect the mounts to find out which one needs replacing?

    Vince - look around for an independent repair shop in your area that specializes in German (specifically BMW) cars - it may not be that costly to address (especially compared to a dealership).

    @@Scotty_in_Ohio figured out it was the driver's side wheel bearing. $70 part on Amazon... still got skinned $300 for a 30 minute job. Hawaii life.

    You keep saying it's "not the most reliable" and I wish you would have highlighted at least a few issues for a more informed buying choice. Yes, the car looks fun but you mentioned it not being reliable more than once in your mini review without elaborating. How is the headroom for tall people?

  • @CruiseControl1

    I would advise to look at carcomplaints.com and pull the year up you are considering and it displays all of the common issues that people have had to fix. The model I was driving had a warning light for the engine, I am unaware of the exact issue as I was only given this vehicle for a short review. I am 5'11 and I had enough headroom, however the seats felt small to me.

    @@CruiseControl1 There are reports of that year, in particular, needing a "costly" turbo charge repair at around the 80,000-mile range. Still, it's a nice-looking car. I'm 6'2" so I'd have to see if I could sit comfortably. Still, it's a nice-looking car.
