It's called the Sport model due to the fact that you can get it with a manual transmission.

I just bought this sport model - 53K miles, in excellent condition, replacing a 2008 RAV4. It's peppy and supper fun to drive. I'm single but with grandkids enjoy the versatility of the seating and/or cargo areas. This review doesn't mention that the middle seat has a console that can fold under one of the seats to open passage space. Also, it has effective rear seat A/C. I like the wavy body style but mostly I just love love love this car.

I have a 2010 Mazda 5 Grand Touring and ABSOLUTELY love it...!!! Well...expect for one thing. The acceleration of the 2.3 liter engine which struggles when trying to merge from an on ramp exit onto the highway. I've worked around this issue by setting it in it's "auto manual" mode. And let me tell you folks it makes a HUGE difference in power. Since it holds a gear longer to build up a merging or passing speed when your on the highway. However, around town i just leave it in it's regular mode setting which is just fine. But since most of the complaints i hear about this vehicle are related to it's under powered engine. I thought i'd share my "work around" of that problem area for those that share my frustration on this issue. It's a damn shame that Mazda discontinued this little gem of a minivan. Because in all honesty i really feel they had a good thing going for folks not wanting a larger SUV. I for one firmly believe that most of it's downfall was a lack of any "reasonable" horsepower. Moving from a 2.3 liter to a 2.5 liter engine and only increasing the horsepower from 153 to 157 was rather ridiculous on Mazda's part. Since know one would really see any "significant gains" from a 4hp increase on the newest models. If they had bumped it up to 170hp at the very least and added more torque THAT would have done the trick no doubt about it. The only other issue to me was exterior styling since i really disliked what they did to the front grille. By changing it to a huge plastic smiley face along with the change in rear tail lights to a "standard" horizontal configuration. I happen to LOVE my 2010 models vertical LED tail lights. There not only sleek looking but also make larger vehicles in back of me notice my braking more. So again Mazda shouldn't have changed that feature. And lastly not to be overly nit picky here i miss the side turn signals and painted body side moldings the older Mazda 5 models had up until the 2009 model year. Why they did away with those features on my 2010 model is beyond me. I guess they felt adding traction and stability control on my 2010 model was more important. Since the previous models before 2010 lacked those important safety features. Regardless of all that, i still love my "mini" minivan and with only 30k on my 2010. I expect it to provide me many more years of convenience and reliability.

I had the 2014 touring model in the States and it was great. I now own a 2011 model that is called the sport but it’s the highest model. Electric rear doors, stock 2-din navigation system with 6 speakers and a ton more tech than my American model. It even seats 7 here. Love this vehicle.

I'm considering on getting this after owning a first-gen manual Honda CR-V for many years now. This is the only van that I'm considering since it's offered in manual. I enjoy driving way too much to own an auto.

We just bought a 2008 and love it. Got a good deal on the 2008 model (very low miles, very low interest rate) and hated the new swoopy thing on the side. Overall, great family car for those that don't want today's oversized "mini" van.

We had a 2006 mazda5 and it road nice, had plenty of space, and I really liked the radio setup, however it looks like a mom vehicle or an old mans vehicle.

I prefer the interior rather than the exterior and we spend more inside the car, don't we all? It's pleasant to drive and it's good all around alternative people mover around the town including IKEA trips!

Love the Mazda5. I have taken delivery of 2 dining tables (which we use in the office) in boxes and they fit. I also took delivery of a massive area rug from Lowes and that went in too. Really practical, really nice to drive in the city. Zippy, quick. Engine sound...yes, but it does not bother me. I am not expecting Lexus at this price point.

They need to put the new 2.5 SkyActiv with 184 hp in the Mazda5. If they do want to sell more of this, that might be one good move. It will give 26+ in the city 36+ in the hwy and 0-60 in the 7's.......that would move more 5's off the dealer lots.

Good review. I'm also not a fan of the new styling. I enjoyed the previous generation's lines. Hopefully, it will be successful for Mazada and other car companies will follow suit and in the near future we can see these small, fuel efficient, vans everywhere.

You know when these things shine? Used. There are many Mazda 5s out there in the used market and they can be had fairly inexpensively. They stand up to years of regular use and the engines keep going and going. A great car and a super fuel-saver. Pick one up used and enjoy the economy of the excellent little car.

Yep, we had a '12 and lost it in an accident. This summer, I found one with some high mileage--but in great condition. Even the Mazda dealership I took it too raved on how great it looked. I've done the water pump and replaced the front struts, plus got 4 new Michelins for it, cuz this was the car my daughter wanted for her graduation. She vows to drive it into the ground. She doesn't even want my wife's '19 VW Jetta, once we pay it off. She wants and loves her 5.
