The location of the transmission dipstick is so stupid that it's insane. So I took out the air filter assembly, a royal PITA, then removed the 10mm bolt, only to find that the dipstick was fused to the trans housing and so risked breaking the engine-heat brittle plastic handle if I worked it too much. Couple this bad experience with an long-time unfixed, endemic spongy braking problem due to a Ford -designed ABS module that should have been a worldwide recall, and we're reluctant to buy a new Mazda.

Can you get to the PCV valve with air filter housing out?

Not sure but I will check , planning to remove the intake manifold one day to install an oil catch can .
