2012 Ford Focus Titanium Hatchback Walkaround, Review and Test Drive

Take a look at this 2012 Ford Focus Titanium Hatchback - this is one of our favorite 2012 compact vehicles - what do you think?
"You can forget what you knew about the previous Focus -- the 2012 car is a monumental improvement. Available in four-door sedan and hatchback body styles, the new Focus benefits from eye-catching styling and a sharply designed interior dressed up with high-quality materials. It also comes with a new four-cylinder engine that's more fuel-efficient, and a suspension that delivers both above-average handling and a refined ride." (Edmunds.com)

My mom has an 08 Focus, and it is so far behind the new one! I never thought Id see a Focus with gdi, push-button start, an automated manual transmission, and a touch-screen radio/nav/climate interface. This mew one is just amazing! Its really good to drive with the manual!

the focus sure has come a long way since it came out in 2000. I remember the 2000-2007 Focuses had a bad rep but when it was redesigned in 2008, it improved a lot.

that is one damn good looking Focus, but I would have to leave a lot of the options out because there is no way I would pay anything close to that sticker price because after all, it is still a Focus.

Best review video I could find, good work. When starting the car do you remember if the gauges roll to the top and back down like other eco sports cars?

Yep, couldn't turn the stereo off the other day and using bluetooth audio made it impossible to switch between sources on the screen. It's just hopeless, even with the new MFT module.

I really like this version of the Focus. Finally the European version of the Focus comes stateside, but it's hard for me to consider a Focus Titanium over a Mazda3... even though they are corporate cousins. I think it's just old Ford still ringing strong in my ears. I do really like it, it's just pricey. Auto-park is nice and unheard of for this price range.

This car reminds me a lot of the 3rd generation Ford Mondeo which now, it's 4th generation model, shares exactly the same car as the Fusion for you guys and gals in the States.

That is one of my gripes, hopefully Ford fixes that next year, but the 2013 ST has a pretty sick looking exhaust as it should lol but yeah, I was really disappointed that the new ILX has a similar muffler, it better still sound good lol

Well, a Focus SE would be an excellent choice! Just test drive everything throughout compact car class and you will most likely prefer this the most because of its European feel

Is there any problem involved with the dual clutch transmission in 2013 models? I'm curious cuz I hate buying a new car with any major issue. Otherwise, I like anything else. Kinda wish ford put regular automatic or at least have it as available like dodge dart.

I don't get why people say the focus is tight on room in the back. I fit and i'm 6'5''! its almost unheard of for someone like me to fit in the backseat of a car comfortably!

I've noticed quite a few 2012 models with around ~20-25k km on them up for sale. When shopping for this car used, how would you recommend determining if it is an earlier model w/ problems? Or were these solved via software updates that can be applied to older models?

  • @DanieeReG

    @DanieeReG

Dark0blivion the main problem is the transmissions. The power-shift is a poor built and has poor quality, they brake with 45-50k ish miles on them and most of them they aren't covered by the warranty.

How long has MyFord Touch been out? Two years? Ford should've learned by now. Toyota's Entune is brand new and there's been no problems. Chrysler's new Uconnect has been out for about a year and has been pretty much flawless. Eric's car isn't an exception, it's pretty much the reality (okay, maybe not to that extent). Ford seriously needs to get its shit together with that infotainment system.

CAUTION: If you opt for the 18 inch wheels the tires are rated "summer only"> So you will have to get a set of tires and rims for the winter.

Titaniums are pricey for sure, I'd prolly pass on the parking tech package, handling package, and NAVI, and the price is much more reasonable. But Mazda 3s can get this expensive as well fully loaded despite the fact that the focus offers more premium features and has a nicer interior.
