Thanks so much! :-) My garland lights are almost always plug-in and I use extension cords, in the color of my furniture or door frame. I also try to make my garland floor-length so the cord exits (the garland) on the floor making them less visible. And plugging them into remote control electrical switches (check your D.I.Y. stores for these) makes it easy to turn them on & off without disturbing the extension cord, once it's tucked in & hidden. Have fun decorating and enjoy the creativity!

Katy... my best tip is to look at your existing decorations & determine a color that they all have in common. Next, use either large (OR several) ornament balls in that color. Then, all of your other holiday decorations will flow, as you add them in, because you've brought the color they have in common into the spotlight. Have fun decorating! :-)

Anthony, I have been collecting my decorations over 20 years and purchased the majority in after-Christmas sales, at 75-90% off. Buy what you can afford each year and "grow" your collection. If you want a lot of color in your tree this year, look in craft depts. (when the decorations are out) for thick, coated paper ornament shapes (in colors). Place them on your tree in a diamond pattern, using lengths of ribbon, and you will be surprised at how well they fill it up! :-)

This is amazing! I'm taking notes for things to try this Christmas. Are your garlands battery operated? I would love to do them over the doorway like you have but the cord would show.
