I’ve always loved the MGM logo but when I saw this one for the first time seeing Skyfall (my first Bond film in theaters), I got chills down my spine. Something about the sound effects blending into the roar of Leo the Lion never ceased to amaze me. Any MGM movie afterwards that had this logo, made me get pumped every time.

While my parents are watching Casino Royale while I was there, the MGM logo came up and gosh it scared the shit offa me

I like the subtle effect of having the ribbons rotate as if they were actual film. It really adds life to the logo.

Nivekmugnitram 12 I liked this current logo, since the hobbit trilogy.

Music/Sounds: The 1995 roar is used, along with whooshes throughout the animation and the sound of a running film projector before the lion roars. The noise dies down after the first roar. There is also an extra growling sound added after the second roar.

I was always a fan of the MGM logo ever since I was a kid. I had the T-shirt and Even a Leo stuffed animal.

@@Corgipon Im a fan of the 20th Century Fox and Paramount logos.

Logo: On a black background, we see flickers of light. The image pulls back to reveal that it is a pupil, a close-up of Leo's eye. We then see Leo, the ribboning, mask and the words "TRADE MARK" on both sides (from the previous logo, all in gold and metallic) ease back with the ribbons moving, as "Metro Goldwyn Mayer" appears shimmering and eases itself above the ribboning. The company name is darker and appears to have a "shining" effect applied to it. The mask is also different as well. Leo roars as this happens.

The 2012-2021 MGM 3D logo made its first appearance on Hope Springs (but in a short version) along with Skyfall (the first one to fully use the logo) and made its final appearance on Snake Eyes.

And the sound effects added.

Man, that is *epic*!!

Seen at the end of the 2002 DVD of ''Squad'' the logo zooms out and zooms in the eye.

Out of all the mgm logos this one is the best

Hey Star Bright Since i know MGM is making a new Pink Panther movie in the near future which will focus on the panther and not Clouseau what would it be like if the Pink Panther was in this logo and we zoom the camera out of his eye and the color of the logo was all pink and not gold and the panther would roar like the lion? Would that be so cool?

Hopefully Leo the Lion can continue to roar, for many years to come.

Do you think that this new logo would be seen on future prints of old United Artists, Orion, American International, Cannon, and PolyGram films before and after the movie that those studio logos originally seen at the time of their threatrical release of those films from those studios film library in the future?

Mgm had 3 founders because its a merged company between metro pictures, Louis b Mayer, pictures and Goldewen pictures pictures and i think the ghosts of the 3 founders would have tears of the most beautiful thing they ever seen

Maybe Spiderman since Spiderman is the only Marvel superhero that has been in Sony movies and there was originally going to be a spiderman movie by MGM but the movie was in development hell until Columbia got ahold of the Spiderman series when the first Sam Raimi movie was made

Yep. I used to have a recurring nightmare about it, only Leo was replaced by an ugly, scary monster who talked gibberish, then laughed maniacally and lunged right at me. And I had that dream off and on from about age 2 to about age 10.

It started popping up again occasionally in my late teens. I wasn't so much scared as I was thinking "What gives, I thought I defeated you years ago!".

The only MGM logos I can stand to watch are all pre 1957 logos, and The first two MGM/UA Home Video logos since they are not to scary at all. Otherwise I will crap my pants If you put one of these on.

No, because MGM, clearly aware of this move, moved their portion of home video rights to Universal (which more or less has taken over Fox's role as a secondary home video distributior.) Fox still has distribution rights for films by Annapurna Pictures (which ironically enough has a joint distribution outlet with MGM in United Artists Releasing.) Disney DOES own at least one MGM co-produced film through Fox now, the 2015 remake of Poltergeist. They even sell it through their Disney Movie Club, bizarrely.

Michael Ashton That was its debut. MGM has to have something splashy to celebrate emerging from bankruptcy, so why not stick a new logo on the highest-profile project to be affected by that bankruptcy?

Actually, it’s not a lion’s roar. It’s actually a tiger’s roar. They wanted a more majestic roar for the logo so they chose a tiger’s roar to go with the logo and make it look like that Leo is roaring, and they started doing that in 1982.

Looking back on this logo I can honestly say the biggest problem with it is the horrible washed out color palette. It ruins the look of the banner and makes the already old and dated Leo footage look even worse.

The zoom out from the eye makes it a bit spooky For example, I was watching a movie in the cinema that was created by MGM, and when it showed up, I just kinda covered my eyes Nowadays, they changed the logo, so it's not that spooky
