2012-2018 Toyota Avalon & Camry: Intermediate Steering Shaft
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
An obnoxious clunk and rattle heard in the front end (and felt through the steering wheel) could very well be a faulty steering shaft. This video shows the complete replacement from start to finish, showcasing tools and specs needed to do the job, for 2012-2018 Toyota Avalon and Camry vehicles.
**NOTE** Secure the steering wheel from rotating prior to shaft removal to prevent the clock spring from unwinding.

The wire and 2x4 was a nice touch. I’ll implement that on my Highlander install.
Best video. Can't top this straight forward explanation.
Excellent write up! Thanks.
Pretty common with Toyota apparently. I have a similar issue with my 2007 Rav4 in which there is some clunk in the steering column during operation. Seems to get better if lubed however.
good vid, good pics of the process, but i dont know how you line up and draw lines with new parts??
need this fixed on my 13 avalon hybrid. How much am I looking at parts+labor?
Just found out I have to get this part replaced. Not looking forward to hill for this repair.
Mine broke at around 60,000 miles on my Camry hybrid. Replaced with a new one but The knocking went away but it’s still kind of stiff
I’ve seen others say that it could be an electrical option. Any advice on that?

if you do not have any warning on your instrument panel, it is most likely only this shaft. A Toyota dealer service manager told me this today. and he has said they've done a lot of them and they keep them in a drawer, they are done that often. I have a 2018 Camry LE with 70,000mi on it and the steering became stiff/resistive. He explained the replacement part from toyota was redesigned and should last.
