Tips: 1. The top left nut can be reached through one of the (covered) holes in the door. You just have to get the glass to come up all the way by pushing the door latch mechanism in so that the car thinks the door is closed. 2. The rubber panel on the left side for the left door, or right side for the right door can be pulled up to access the nut way up in the corner.

Thanks! Others take out the rear window which is a lot more work. Worked great for me and took less time than bringing the car to Tesla.

I was able to remove the assembly and diagnose the problem (left microswitch black wire open). The temporary soldering did not fix the door opening on handle present, though it did fix the rather recent issue of handle stuck open. A whole new assembly is likely needed. I just left the door handle assembly unplugged for now. Thank you.

The black circles stuck to the door are access holes that allow you to remove those bolts without reaching way up inside the door.

I know this is an old video but I have a 2013 Model S Tesla P85+ The external door handles all work. However the rear door handles dont open the door on either side. The handle moves but normally theres this quick motor sound that allows the door to open but isnt doing it. This is on both rear doors. I have tried to reset the car, pulled the 5a fuse under the hood and that didnt work. My Tesla service center is trying to rob me for $1300 for a bunch of what I feel are unnecessary parts. Like the external and internal door handles which aren't broken. Unfortunately my service center has tried this replace everything tactic before with my headlight bulbs. Tried to quote me $3500 for an entire headlight assembly when it was just the bulb. Then they said they misquoted me the $246 for them and turned out they said when they checked the VIN on the car it told them the incorrect part. I was charged $357 for what they say is the right part even tho when the VIN box is checked its the wrong one. I cant trust them but theres no where else to go.

There is a MUCH easier way to remove the door panel without spudging tools! Just roll down the window and grab the top rear corner both hands with your fingers between the inner weather seal by only the vinyl covered plastic and pull straight out very firmly. You will not damage anything from using prying tools or even need those tools. The door panel will easily pop off from there; just be careful to catch it so you don't damage the wires.

I'm trying to figure out how the door opens and close because I want to do a door handle swap on another vehicle using the Tesla door handles you know how on other vehicles there's a door latch that locks around a bar on the inside of the door to keep the door closed while driving I was wondering how the Tesla handles keep the door closed

I've replaced the driver door handle switch before. Is the process exactly same for the rear passenger doors?

Vet nice vid! Very informative! Do you have to disconnect the battery or kill power to the air bags?

When you pull the handle does it the latch come loose with a cable cuz I'm trying to figure out how I can do a Tesla door handle swap on my car

@@hughesdc No. A tesla handle is a switch only telling the computer to unlock the car. The latch is electronic.

Do 2017 and up models not have this issue?

Philip Macafee great question. Not sure. That would be great if so cause I hard they made improvements on the new ones.

This is a very misleading video. There are several important things that are skipped. Way over simplified. Missing very obvious shortcuts like the creator is purposely misdirecting you.

I am not a professional mechanic. But I have no clue how you mean I was misleading. I simple recorded a video of me fixing my door handle that would not present, which is a very common problem in the older MS. Let’s see the video you made that is better. Tag it here so that everyone can see a video that is not misleading.

There are two access holes in the door panel to unbolt the top two bolts. No way to fit a 3/8 ratchet on the top left stud from the inside, window guide is in the way. Video and sound quality was good as well as the narration. Just frustrating to find after some work that there is a much easier way.

@@skorboo870 the window was in the up position and was not in way of removal. The handle will slide out of the door with a little jiggling.

@@hughesdc a tip would be to rotate the door assembly 90° (door handle pointing down/up) lift up in the door void and lower over the window assembly. P.S. from Skorboo, posted under other account.
