2011 Hyundai Elantra Review, Walk Around, Start Up & Rev, Test Drive

Redesigned elantra and while it's an improvement from the old one, it just doesn't "impress" my preferences and needs for a small car

My sister has this car in black. It's a pretty good car. Your review was clearly brutal. These guys are right you never even really gave the car a chance before you already had an opinion. The cars very fuel efficient & I myself will be going and buying one in a few months. Thats how much I enjoy my sisters .

my best friend has the 2012 Hyundai Elantra and it is a pretty nice car from my opinion and she loves it... I am from 5'11 to 6'1 and I have no problem with room wise in this car and my other friend is 6'5 and he got in the car with no problem... the one she has is a baby blue with the tan interior which is a good combo with the car... they do get good gas mileage too and it's a great car...

It looks like they put a delay on the tachometer needle, because I can hear you revving the engine, but the tach just slowly sways up and down, really only giving a rough estimate of what the engine is actually doing.

Also, for what its worth, dual-zone climate control will be an option on the 2013 Limited and heated front seats will be optional on the GLS.

It's slow to shift for a dual-clutch transmission...even after the reprogram I had done on mine. That being said, it's not as slow as this car and in Sport mode it's actually pretty good. Drive on the other hand can get frustrating at times.

My cousin has a 2012 Elantra Limited and gets 43 mpg highway. Driving style is everything. Life is too short to be dissatisfied with what you drive, and the 2012 Civic is a perfect example of this (except the SI). To be honest, the '12 and '13 Elantra Limited (with Navi, push button start, smart key, dual power seats, dual zone climate ctrl, quad heated seats, etc) reminds me of a mini-Lexus, both in driving smoothness and design. The GLS is a turd, I agree. Best kept for rental fleets.

The only Elantras with the 15" wheels were the 2011-12 models with a manual transmission without the manual's Comfort package. Luckily, manual transmission Elantras in 2013 will come with the Comfort package's equipment standard. Hope this helps! :-)

That's true and I read about that after I posted, but still I thought the car was all-American, but I guess it's still GM. I really like them but I was kinda impressed to know that the car was actually designed in Korea. And BTW there is a car with the name Daweoo that does look exactly like the Cruze but I think it's only sold in Korea

If you test drive the 2013 model.... they added dual front power seats, and dual zone climate control on the limited model..... see if you can test drive and review one of those on the 2theredline channel. I'm a Honda/Acura fan too and currently own a TSX, but this car is VERY impressive in Limited trim. The push button start, black leather, and soft touch materials look/feel great. The '12 Civic is pretty Yuck, am I'm saying that as a Honda fanboy. Let's hope the '13 is better!

At this current moment if i had to buy a compact car, it would be between a Manual Mazda 3 skyActiv and Ford Focus. If I waited until 2013 I would add the updated Civic to my list as well.

Great review I would still by a Chevy Cruze LTZ over the Elantra Sedan. I'm used to driving Chevy's, now I drive a 2012 Civic Coupe and I love it like it's my child. The 2013 Elantra SE Coupe with the Technology Pkg. I would absolutely buy because of the fluidic design, push button start and the navigation with back-up camera. I would still change the color on my Civic Coupe, but I would keep it and the buy the 2013 Elantra SE Coupe with the Tech. Pkg. along with it as a spare car for myself.

I feel the same about the Elantra as you. I think of it as a better Corolla. It's comfortable and even stylish, but when driving it, it does what you want it to do but does not impart any sense of personality or edginess. Also my problem with the engine is that it sounds so boring.

I must admit, I'm still chuckling over Hyundai and Kia false MPG advertisements and how the Elantra is really 27/38 I believe? The Veloster and Soul are the two vehicles that took the greatest MPG hit.

The Sonata was nice when it came out, but honestly im a bit tired of seeing pretty much the same design concept on all Hyundais. While it looks nice, it seems like all their cars look the same. I would get either the Cruze, the Focus, or the upcoming Sentra if I was in the market for this segment.

I'm in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of situation when it comes to compact cars. Elantra is a slow-revving, lousy-shifting, cheap, "meh" no-fun kinda car. The Civic is expensive and I hate the interior. The Mazda3 is fun, but not that great looking, cheap and the ride is loud. Volkswagen ruined the Jetta. Cruze is for old people and as interesting as beige trousers. Hence why I bought a Focus: best premium small car w/o a luxury badge...I just wish mine would work right!

Never cared much for the Elantra and that's coming from a fan. I test drove it and didn't like it much either. Engine felt gutless IMO. My fortes 2.4 is much better and the transmission shifts quicker in mine too. Might just be that the SX forte is tuned more for a sporty characteristic and this is more for economy. And btw they did add auto climate control in all body styles for 2013

I thought the "Sonic" was supposed to be an all-GM car? I thought they stopped with the last gen Aveo? Wow I guess I was very poorly informed about GM. If it really still is a Daewoo I'm disappointed because I was actually liking the new Chevys.
