2011 Cadillac DTS Luxury Collection Start Up, Exhaust, and In Depth Tour

In this video I give a full in depth tour of the final production year of the 2011 Cadillac DTS, this particular one being the Luxury collection. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

+Grayson Reichert It's coming back, the big cars ! With the all-aluminum chassis structures, the big cars will weigh about the same as the regular compact cars of today... See Buick Avenir, Cadillac CT6, (2016) and the next Lincoln (2017). They come up with engines around +/- 400 HP V6's and the only bad news... price ! But you guys in the states build them and so, shouldn't be too exagerated for US Dollars. (50,000 - 75,000 $) + tax. Might be the area of the big SUV could be in jeopardy, they plan to design cars for the generation of baby-boomers that got a bit older, and want more COMFORT, EASIER ENTRY/ACCESS, MORE LEG ROOM and a vehicule that's easy to maneuver, yet gives you the feeling of a 'big' car... I guess the next 10 years might be quite interesting, so start saving up a few bucks !

You have to remember since the great recession back in 2008, GM had to restructure itself across all its brands. The market was shifting and these were the bail out years. Don't forget GM entirely discontinued one of my favorite brands, the Pontiac division as well as Saturn and Hummer while also discontinuing several other models in the remaining 4 brands. I remember when GM was doing great and all dealers were busy all the time. I was around it a lot especially around the Cadillac's. Today it has completely changed and its not the same anymore. The fun is gone and the cars are not special anymore. Both the Cadillac DTS and Lincoln Town Car ended the same year in 2011. It was the end of an era sadly but I'll never get rid of my mine!

I own 2 DTS (2007 & a 2008) and 2 Lincoln's Town Car Signature Presidential. (Both 1998's). The Lincoln's have rear wheel drive and airbag rear suspension. Rides SMOOTH and comfortable. The caddies are FRONT wheel drive. They ride as smooth as the Lincoln's even better and more comfortable. (they have Stabilitrak) so they handle a bit more better on the road when you push them a bit. Also 275 HP instead of 200-205 HP (Lincoln's). But the Lincoln's have a frame and you can attach a hitch class 3 and can easily pull a boat, like you would do with a Ford F150... Cadillac is limited to a class 2 hitch. I'd say 3700 pounds towing capacity for the Lincoln (I pull 5000 pound with mine) easy. Cadillac's is 3500. Cadillac are more modern look, with navigation and stuff, but the engine is a bit obsolete although quite reliable. Lincoln's engine are dinosaur's... but undestructible ! Like tanks, they will last forever. Mechanic's point of view now... Lincoln is A LOT EASIER and inexpensive to fix. (except: rear suspension, a/c, air compressor, and all electrical) Cadillac is way way more complicated to play under the hood due to having the front wheel drive in the way and shorter hood. But low mileage cars (below 80,000 miles) you will probably have nothing to fix, no trouble at all. Parts like alternator are accessible, but belt is a tough job. Trunk space? Bigger in the Cadillac... Because of the flat floor ! So way more convenient with a low deck lid. Lincoln's his cavernous, but you have spare in the way (except after 2003) they have a mini spare hidden on the right side. The DTS leather quality is better then in my Lincoln's, except Lincoln's Cartier version, which is quite equivalent. Aim for a DTS Luxury II or Luxury III if you can. Lincoln's are great in Signature series, there's L, limited, executive, Signature, Cartier, Presidential. Try to avoid any car that could have been used commercial or in a fleet or taxi or limousine. You will get a piece of junk. Find 1 or 2 owner cars. The higher price you pay, usually the better you get. There's no point of trying to cheaply save on these big cars, you'll end up just paying more in repairs. Happy shopping ! DTS is my favorite, but Lincoln is wider 1.5 inch each side and bigger by almost 10 inches. Funny thing, weigh is about the same !

I completely agree. Two great cars but my top favorite has always been the Cadillac DTS. I think the DTS is much more elegant and plush. The Lincoln Town Car is still nice but doesn't have the same feel as the Cadillac. Now the Lincoln Continental that a lot of people forget I think was a lot better than any of the Town Car's. The Continental was exactly like the Cadillac Seville, Deville and DTS. But I like everything you said in your answer. Good comparison since you have both cars!

I'm always excited when the Chauffeur rolls up on the drive with one of these and I like it better than the Mercedes they often use this is because the Cadillac doesn't throw me forward when we take a sharp turn the way the S class does the Mercedes has too much power for any decent riding to be had the Rolls Royce and Jaguar are stuffy and actually lack trunk space for all of my bags I definitely have to say every car service should use this car it is truly the most satisfying and the most effortlessly classy car ever made.

DSNCB919 I like FWD better. As with rwd you can easily loose traction and spin out of control. With Front wheel drive, you have better traction especially when in ice and snow with all the weight of the engine over the front wheels. Of course anybody can get stuck with any car but front wheel drive helps out with this. Ever since the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado came out being the first FWD passenger car, FWD has been very popular in many cars to this day.

I hope one time Cadillac returns to the iconic image of luxury which used to make everyone stop what they were doing in the streets just to see a Cadillac passes by. Thanks for sharing, Kyle.

The Cadillac DTS was never meant to compete with the Mercedes "S" class of cars. Until recently, American auto manufacturers made a VERY distinct difference between luxury cars and sports cars while the German manufacturers combined the two into the same car. Here, luxury cars were supposed to have soft springs and soft seats. Sports cars were supposed to have firm springs and firm seats. We have to compete with the Germans now so, our new cars reflect the new thinking. Cadillac sales are up.

The Northstar V8 was very powerful, but I owned a 97 Deville and it needed a tune up at 87K, when they advertised that engine as getting at least 100k without a tune-up, and to add insult to injury it was $1,230 dollars, because you have to basically take the top of the engine off to get to the plugs. There was an enormous amount of labor.

Not true. Typical cars, look at the 2011-2016 Hyundai Elantra, for example, only get minor facelifts through the 5 year cycle. The DTS got new mirrors as it progressed, new features, and more refinements. It's not really all that odd.

I love these cars so much as they have remained to be my favorite Cadillac after 2005 next to the STS. And these are some of the best looking and best sounding cars on the road today. The Northstar V8 is one of the best engines by Cadillac and offer that old school muscle V8 sound, ride and feel. I have driven several of these cars and each one of them was excellent and very exciting cars to drive. This is truely one of the last big full size V8 Cadillac's of the modern era. Excellent cars overall.

The DTS and Deville's are still more popular and in demand over the XTS or whatever it is now. I have an 05 Deville special edition as my daily driver and I LOVE it!! I will never part with it ever!!

I've ridden in an 07 Cadillac DTS and it wasn't magic carpet smooth like so many claim. Also, there was a ton of wind noise and acceleration was subpar for a torquey V8 because of that long geared 4 speed transmission. If one wants smooth then they should drive a Lexus LS430, it's sleep inducing.

Very nice and a great choice!! I have the previous Deville myself and my parents have the 06 DTS like this. They are excellent and the Northstar V8 is truly the best engine made by Cadillac and also there longest production V8 engine as well. The head gasket problem is strictly a coolant related problem associated with Dexcool antifreeze. Using Dexcool is fine but must be changed out when needed and never mixed with any other coolants as this always was a problem with all GM vehicles. Head gaskets on the Northstar never blow but rather develop leaking due to acidic coolant. Being a DOHC engine and not OHV is the difference and is why it is only the head gaskets and not both head and intake as it is on the OHV engines. But if you properly maintain your DTS and changing out the coolant every 2-3 years, you will be fine and not to worry! Hope this helps. :)

azimmey Yes you can get the coolant from any auto parts store and even Wal Mart. Your car requires Dexcool so be sure to get the bottle that reads DEXCOOL on there. It is Orange in color and do not mix any other coolant or additives to it as this is the same mistake that many GM owners make on there vehicles. I myself use the strait concentrated Dexcool and I then add distilled water myself. But like I said, the DTS is a great choice of car and the Northstar is one of best engines made by Cadillac. They last a very long time and are low maintenance engines if maintained properly. I know someone that has a 07 DTS with over 300,000 miles on it already with zero rebuilds or problems and running just as good as when it was a brand new car. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the good news. Sad thing happened going down the road yesterday, the decal that is on the grill for the adaptive cruise flew off. So mad. 115.00 bucks to replace :( I will say the adaptive cruise is incredible. Keeps you how many car lengths (up to 7 and as low as 1) you want to stay behind the car in front of you and will actually slow you down to a stop if your not paying attention. It even recognizes red lights.

@chevymonte1 Well, its working for Cadillac. The Seville has been FF layout since 1980, the Eldorado even started with that in the late 60s, and the bigger Deville was FWD since 1985. If you have that much experience with it, you can make it work. And by the way, those cars aren't meant to be thrown around a speedway, but to carry you on a cloud to your preferred destination in luxury and comfort... And as the owner of a Cadillac, let me asure you, they do =)

My 2000 Deville is a little darker than this 2011 model. These Northstar powered cars really have a bad reputation. Mine's pushing 203,000 miles, so they do last. The headaches involved owning one tho is unfortunate for how expensive these cars are (and were) new. The engine sure sounds mean tho.

    @pctomactechtalk

CROUTONCHANNEL I know what you mean, I have a 1998 and every few months, there seems to be some "other" expense with these cars. For example, my cruise control doesn't want to engage every few hundred miles that I use it, I take it into the shop and it is fixed, but the problem shows up again a few months later. And there is no code to point to a problem, but resetting the ECU seems to fix it. I also have a brake warning light that comes on at random, stays on for a minute at most, then goes off, all while driving and the brakes work just fine. Again, no computer codes. Mine only has 53,600 miles on it and I will be selling before 60,000 to avoid any possible head gasket problems. I want to upgrade to a 2011 platinum, get an extended warranty and not have to worry about spending money on a car that I consider a luxury item, I have my Honda Civic for daily reliability.

I agree. It is because of the German cars that the new American cars are what they are. It is sad because for people who are not interested in speed or sports car-like handling, there is nothing else to turn to. Even Buick has firmed up their suspensions and seats. There is no longer a big comfortable highway cruiser on the market anymore. The big comfortable American cars used to be GREAT for 10 hour trips. Now? Only 4 - 5 at the most! Progress? I don't think so.
