2010 Toyota Rav4 V6 Review, Walkaround, Exhaust, Test Drive

Help us grow so we can bring you more videos! Like us on Facebook @ / 2redline Toyota's Rav4 may be the original compact SUV, but being the original doesn't always mean you're the best. While the third generation may have been top of class back in 2006, today it is one of the oldest in the market. A potent V6 keeps things interesting, but it's cheap and slightly snug interior may have you running toward newer competition.

The 2GR-FE is such an impressive engine.
Holy shit, just seeing this now after watching all the recent vids is surreal. He’s reviewing a car that doesn’t even have an infotainment! And that hair! Kudos to Sofyan for never giving up.
Its 2023 and hands down the best rav4 ever made.
I purchased this exact car (2010 v6 AWD) used with 50k miles on it. I have since added another 25k miles and haven't encountered a single issue with the car. After three years of ownership, I am surprised by how much I still LOVE driving this car. Great for long road trips and merging/overtaking on freeways. The engine is smooth and quiet, and extremely zippy. I doesn't skip a beat in the mountains - it will effortlessly climb. A few comments/feedback on the review: "Road noise": I disagree with the reviewer. I have actually found the car to be very quiet. And road noise is something I am always mindful of when evaluating cars. Perhaps it is the model tires that were on his test car? I installed Firestone Destination LE2 tires and have found the road noise to lower than most vehicles - and passengers have made similar observations. "The engine is kind of overkill": Again, I disagree. After 1-2 days of driving, you get used to the acceleration and feel of the pedal. The engine is AWESOME. It is precisely what makes the car so unique and fun to drive. I have owned 5 cars prior to this one, and this is the first time I have felt like I want to keep a car until it starts to fall apart. How will I ever find a new SUV that is this wonderful to drive? "Outdated" - I agree. The interior does feel dated and uninspiring, but honestly, that fabulous v6 engine overcomes any aesthetic shortcomings.

@Grug Crusader I missed out on a 2009 lexus RX dealer maintained in TX with 61k miles on it for 10800. I recently bought a 2011 with only 58K miles and am really loving the car. However mine makes a slight humming/whining noise in the drive train every time I step on the gas. When I let off the gas it stops. It’s most noticeable when I’m in a lot of stop and go traffic and I’m constantly on and off the gas. It’s not insanely loud but is some what noticeable. Have you noticed it in your 2011? Just wondering if it’s something I should be concerned about or if it’s normal. It was very well maintained by the original owner from the Toyota dealer where they originally bought it from so I can’t imagine it’s anything serious and with only 58K miles but you never know.. I’ve watched other KZread videos of people driving the same car and I hear similar noises but hard to tell for sure as in some of the videos seem to pickup too much exhaust or engine noise.
I will be getting that exact vehicle in 2 weeks I'm so excited.

I recently got the exact same one as well except mines a 2011. How are you liking yours?
Well, we were referring to the V6 model in this video with the 5AT. That powerful V6 is probably the best thing about this SUV. Keep in mind, even the 07-11 CR-V had some dated things about it. For example, to get Bluetooth in that CR-V you had to buy a top trim EX-L NAVI. While the 5AT with the 2.4 in the CR-V is way better than the Rav4, the V6 upgrade in the Toyota helps offset that problem.
I look at this model this day and it still looks good.
I've had my 2010 cv6 rav4 since brand new (145,000km now) Still runs like new. Very fast for an SUV. Turns into Beast at 4,000 revs.
I recently bought a 2010 RAV4 and it’s great. Wish they had used better materials for the interior it’s definitely outdated. 13 years later this car is still amazing.
I love coming across these old videos of yours. Those white sunglasses and you wandering back and forth at the beginning was funny. Been doing great reviews for a while now.
You've Come a Long Way Baby! Keep up the good work!
2022 with 2011 limited 2.5 and I love it. V6 would be nice but build quality and reliability great 👍 toyota for life
Thanks for this review. I'm in the market for a good (used) SUV and this was really helpful.
he definitely look younger now compared to before
I bought a new 2006 Sport with the 3.5 and front wheel drive and have 100,000 on it now. I replaced tires, front struts and muffler along with a rear wheel speed sensor and an O2 sensor. Very dependable and a mine did a 14.7 second quarter mile at the drag strip. Toyota later recalled the vehicle to replace the muffler but told me to pound salt on my replacement expense. The car is rather basic inside but with the V6, it is fun to drive. The front tires will wear fast if you don't feather the throttle on takeoff. It has no traction control shut off switch but there is a way to turn it off by cycling the parking brake and main brake. The lack of this switch makes it a pain in deep snow. Big oversight by Toyota. Lots of recalls for small stuff but it turned out to be a very good purchase.
Nice review, I love my 2010 Rav4 V6 Limited. Only bad thing is the factory nav otherwise perfect, much nicer than the newer models.

You are the only car reviewer I even care to watch on youtube! Also, being in a big mess of cars, I may try to buy a Rav4! lol
Have been looking for one of these vehicles. My family has driven a 2014 Toyota Highlander and the V6 engine kicks ass bigtime. I believe the output is 260 hp for that year. I would like to see the mileage in this model. I believe it compares pretty good to the 2.5 4 banger. Great review as always. It is dated but toyota's are built to last!
Bro got the clout goggles
It's mostly car enthusiasts who say that. To most people, Toyota makes great cars. Mechanically, they're very reliable. It's just some people prefer a more engaging driving experience. For 95% of the population, this car would suit their needs.
The new RAV4 improves a lot on the old one's faults, like interior quality and road noise. I like the new one's styling, but I've always liked the exterior of the 2006-2012 model too. Glad it had a long life
These SUVs are very pleasing to drive with the V6. I used to have one... I gotta admit, materials in the cabin are very hard and plastic-y, but the panels fit together really well, and it looks really cool. The seatbelt chime doesn't add to any inspiration, I don't know why they just didn't leave the original Toyota chime. I had a 2008, mine had some SUPER HOLLOW sounding doors when you closed them, sounded as if you dropped a piece of sheet metal on the ground. But, that v6, holy buckets, the 3.5 v6 from Toyota is a fantastic power plant. It was very smooth, and it MOVED. One of the fastest cars in the small SUV segment. I wish they still put the 3.5 in the newer rav4s. The new ones are nice looking, but very blah in terms of performance. If you have an itch for a peppy powerplant, the newer rav4s aren't for you...
I got same one the V6 engine so powerful it run so fast
Damn how far Redline Reviews has come...
Don't worry. It's a great review as usual. The wind is just really distracting.
Regarding the tailgate angle, the vehicle came out in Japan in the first place so it makes sense that the tailgate opens the way it does.

We love our 11 Rav 4WD Limited with a V6. It only has 102K miles and I’m already going to miss it when it wears out (which will probably happen around 250-300 K miles.
The 269 hp V6 that still gets 19-26 mpg, makes this car really stand out. My Jeep 4.7 V8 gets 11 mpg in the city, 16 highway, with only 235 hp.. I wish you would review it on a mild off-road course, with 4 wheel lock engaged. I want to see how it does in snow, loose dirt, sand, etc.

Miss my RAV4 V6 :(
Another detail I disagree with is the seat comfort. The seats are plain, but I have found then to be very comfortable on long road trips. For a used vehicle under $18k, it is definitely the most comfortable road trip car I have driven in the sub-$25k price point (used). Regarding the rear hatch's hinge - I completely agree that it is on the WRONG side for North American drivers. It is extremely annoying when trying to load cargo from the curb in any urban/dense city environment - as you need enough space to walk around the door every time to walk back and forth from the curb. Most of the time parking spaces aren't long enough to allow this and/or a car will park so close to your rear bumper that you can't open the door wide enough to load/unload and travel around the hatch.
perfect car for college students and families
I really like this toyota rav4 just perfect for me.

Haha watching that glove box fall just means someone forgot to reinstall the dampener when replacing the cabin filter. It does come with one.. Oh, and it does not have Hydraulic Power Steering... From 06 On, all Ravs had EPS.
Good video. You may need to check since I believe that it is electric controlled power steering instead of hydraulic. Also forget about the silly start button. When it breaks, you have to have it replaced by dealers. It is much better to have the conventional key to start the car.

Major differences between Sport and Limited? Likely about to purchase a 2010 Limited Black V6.
Actually, we'd have to disagree, perhaps back in 2006 the tech was the same, but this 2010 model has push button start, a back up camera, AUX port, all features the 06 CR-V lacks. As dated as this vehicle is, it does have some strong points as much as we'd hate to admit it.
Don't confuse antiquated with Simplicity. Not everyone wants to pull over into the breakdown lane just to adjust the stereo. Everything about this vehicle is well thought out including the rear JBL speaker in the hatch back door. Wish they would have made this vehicle 4 more inches wider.
Again we apologize, we've had just a series of very windy days here all week
TBT this is amazing
This is a nice car. I'd take it over the CR-V
Can you please do a 2010-12 Subaru Legacy
Please do a review on toyota highlander 2.7 thank you

Best vehicle ive ever owned and ive owned a lot and test driven many others. The 6 cylinder is mind-blowing. Notice how all other competitors have simply copied the basic shape that has been around almost 20 years. Really, come on guys, surely you arnt that naive and desperate.
Inherited the 2.5 and my spirited driving style is not getting anywhere near the projected mileage. Plastics may be cheap but they’re holding up great with age. Have bilstein b4 shocks on now with Michelin pilot sport 4 SUV tires which has done wonders for handling and road noise.
2021 and i might just trade my 2o17 4cyl Camry (like it) for the the older RAV 6cyl AWD!
My mom has a 2012 Limited four-cylinder, and it's aright, but could be better. Good review though. I've been quite impressed with these recent reviews.

Just got a 2010 sport model with the v6, 96,000 miles. After driving it for a few days I got used to the acceleration. The gas pedal is very sensitive, I don’t know if it’s because of the v6 or if all rav4s are like that.

Does anyone know if the Navigation-equipped interior still includes the Subwoofer in the rear door as it does on the JBL-pkg, Non-Navigation model? Thanks! :)
@lisandrogenao7860
6 жыл бұрын
The navigation package does not offer the JBL w/ subwoofer option. It's either plain stock audio, Navigation w/ plain stock audio or JBL audio w/ subwoofer. The JBL radio on the RAV4 sounds loud and crisp with a lot of bass. I upgraded my radio to the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX with detachable face. Since it has Apple car play and android auto my navigation problem is solved and I still have the premium JBL audio with the factory subwoofer. I love my 2011 Toyota RAV4 Limited V6 4WD. This car is a sleeper.
True, the interior of the Rav4 (and Camry/Corolla) is easily the cheapest in the class, but I don't think the CR-V or the older Escape are that much better. The only entrants with acceptable interiors are the Europeans - Ford Escape and VW Tiguan, both based off the Focus and Golf, respectively
why would you not recommend the 4 speed automatic? do the 4 speeds have a bad rep?

Alex Wright No they don’t, it’s just because he’s a journalist and car journalists in general tend to focus more on newer tech so in the case of the transmission, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, it’s very reliable. It’s just that in his eyes, fewer speeds, worse transmission

That's just a normal feature. Our RAV4 only seats five, and there are still cupholders in case there is a third row.
good , How much?
The sound this guy hears is the tire noise and that means they're not very good tires. If there are bad tires, there's no super quiet cabin that will drown out all noisy tire sounds.
The clip where you are introducing the car, you are talking way too quiet, maybe try a handheld/clip on mic next time?
Car and driver posted a 5.8 sec from 0-60 with the same engine in the camry i think its faster than a v6 camaro lol
The third-row actually isn't half bad for kids and tweens...I was curious and did some searching and apparently people on RAV 4 forums have even had adults back there with the 2nd row slid forward a bit in a pinch.
the only strong suit to the car IS the v6 engine. honda bothered to refresh the 07-11. you still got a fresh interior, better quality materials and a decent navi/bluetooth system. hondas packaging is always like that. back in 2006, EX and above cr-vs came with XM, 6 disc cd, sunroof 5AT and the K24. i know what you mean but i was trying to makw a joke that a car thats seven years old seems more up to date and fresher to look at. and for 2014 they killed the one strongsuit.. the v6 option.
