    Man this is bringing me back to when my transmission failed in my Volvo. Obviously not a jeep but I had to go through the same experience of losing gears and power, while trying to limp it home. Also doing multiple pull offs to let it settle and hopefully have power to move again. Unfortunately I didn't get very lucky and eventually lost all gears completely and had to have a tow truck finish the drive home. Luckily I was less than a mile from home but the stress is still haunting, I feel the pain ✊

    My wrangler has a issue similar. Only now & then. Transmission will come out of lock up & rpm will go up then back down repeatedly. I think it’s the lock up in the converter. Then it will quit doin it. Then come back a few days later. Thoughts ???

    Thanks a lot for that video! My 2005 Buick Century is doing exactly the same thing with 296,000 miles. I start it cold and it goes fine in D and R but as soon as the engine warms up and I drive it, it delays shifting from gear to gear and wines on the highway and at a stop light or stop sign, when I give it gas, it wines and barely takes off and revs high. Then when I shut it off, wait a couple of minutes, it work again and does exactly the same thing. I don't plan on getting it overhauled but I was just wanting to make sure it was the torque converter and not the transmission pump!

    Hey man, did your Buick drive well on 1st and 2nd gear? I have a 2002 Crown Vic that does the same as your Buick, I replaced almost every part that makes the combustion and still have this issue. I'm now suspecting on the transmission speed sensors or the fuel pump, but the scan tool didn't throw any codes about this one, so now it's between these sensors and the torque converter.

    How many miles on your first trans? Have you re-geared? aux cooler?

  • @JeepinNation

    @JeepinNation

    7 жыл бұрын

    Brian Randolph I put a aux cooler on at 59,000 miles when the first transmission went out. I am at 3:73, but my two guys in my Jeep club regeared theirs, one at 5,000 miles and the other at 25,000 miles. The 5,000 mile regear was on a 2010 like mine to 4:88 gears and 35's. His crapped the bed at 17,000 miles. The 25,000 mile one was at 4.56 gears and his went out at 63,000 miles. I'm not sure if they are running aux coolers or not. On mine I don't burn high RPMs and they shift points on spot on. I had them reprogrammed and retimed, mine shifts as good as it did stock or maybe better and I average about 16-17 MPGs depending on how I drive it. That's on 35's.

    Jeep `N Nation ouch. I'm at 52k with 35's. My trans is chugging along. I know quite a few people who have a lot more miles than I do with origninal trans. I need a cooler and re gear to 5.13's to keep the trans from working extra hard I swear tho every person that has a transmission issue also uses a superchips! Like you said tho highly doubtful to be related. However I run an aev procal

  • @JeepinNation

    @JeepinNation

    7 жыл бұрын

    Brian Randolph just curious why 5:13, 4:88 is the highest recommendation for 37's unless your planning on running 40's one day. Also out of the couple guys I know who have had issues, two personally and 3 others I have spoke to locally only 1 out of those 5 were running a supercharger tuner. 3 out of the 5 were regeared. I really don't think the superchips has anything to do with it. It's the automatics, they just have issues. You can read a ton of people online who have had issues out of the autos. The manual transmission rarely has any issues.

  • @Intentsrig

    @Intentsrig

    Jeep `N Nation I live in a really hilly area and everyone recommends 5.13's. Puts the rpms in the power band at 70 2450~ rpms Yeah the 42rle sucks! How is jasper as a company? The manual has a bunch of issues of its own

  • @JeepinNation

    @JeepinNation

    7 жыл бұрын

    Brian Randolph mine on 3:73 and 35's with how it's sitting, after I did the transmission shift point adjustments, I burn around 2200 RPMs at 75 mph. I live on the border of the Piedmont/Foothills area of NC. I am about 45 minutes to a hour from the NC Mountains. I have never heard of gearing to 5:13 for 35's but I guess it wouldn't hurt anything, just the gas mileage wouldn't be to good. I don't feel the need to regear yet, if I end up going to 37's I'll probably go to 4:88 gears then. That's a couple years away since I just got the BFG 35's last April and I'd have a tough time convincing the wife I need new tires again anytime soon. As far as Jasper they were awesome. The transmission held up fine but something went foul with the torque converter that was in the replacement transmission. In stead of just replacing the torque converter they sent a whole new transmission and replaced the whole deal. They paid for parts,labor and tow reimbursement. I didn't have to pay anything at all after it was said and done. They also reset the warranty for another 3yr 100,000 miles, so I'll be good until either 191,000 miles or 2019. They also offer a option when the warranty is about to run out to purchase a extended warranty for only $400 that will get you an additional 3yr 100,000 miles. I can't really complain about them. They were recommended to me by my buddy who did the work for me on the first transmission and by other Jeep owners who have used them for engines and transmissions. They stepped up when they were supposed to and only time will tell on the one I got now as far as how long it will last.

    Thankfully, my TC is just giving me random vibration at various speeds. I can usually gas it or let off the gas to get it to normalize. I haven't decided to fix it or sell it. $1500 is the most I'd be willing to pay. That's $200 for the TC, and $1200 for the labor. Still deciding.... Been driving it like this for over a year. Surprised my transmission hasn't blow up yet! Only light I get is a battery light though. Just says TC voltage issue. Weird. But I get those same vibrations you got. Did you ever get it fixed?

    Ended up with another Jasper Transmission put in under warranty, the first one went out at 59,000 miles. The first one cost me $2700 parts and labor and I also had a bigger Transmission cooler installed to help with overheating. This time it was just the torque converter but jasper decided to replace the whole transmission instead of just the converter in case it may have damaged the transmission. Nine times out of ten if it's a jeep dodge ect it's gone metal to Metal witch means the clutch plate In side the torque converter has no lining witch would be like a kevlar or high carbon lining, that's practically heated and glued to the metal clutch plate. Once that goes its literally just metal spinning on metal, no clutch application then your bearings pop then the stator in side actually starts cutting into your turbine and impellar destroying it self creating aluminium flakes that flood your lines leading to more problems.

    Exactly what happened. There were tons of metal shavings in the pan which is why jasper went ahead and just put a brand new transmission in instead of just doing the warranty on the torque converter only. Didn't cost me anything, I'd definitely use Jasper again if I needed to. They didn't even question it.

    SaintNick71 I think the cost for a new TC was like $1400 not counting the labor to pull the transmission out again and put it back in. They told me it would be easier for them to just put another transmission in. I didn't argue, hell it was no cost to me on the second one so I figured they were doing what was less expensive for them. Plus I got another 3yr 100,000 mile warranty out if the deal

    I'm just hoping this is a fix that won't give me too many headaches in the future.

    SaintNick71 If your on 35's or better with a automatic I suggest a regear or superchips setup properly so it shifts right and doesn't hang between gears or it's likely to happen again. If it's flat were you live you can probably get by but if you have rolling hills like me in NC then one of the two things I suggested would be a smart move.

    Well it doesn't kick out of gear like that nor goes into limp mode but I got a 42rle with a 3.7 v6 4x4 and it do shudder quite a bit in 2nd and 3rd and also hard shifts into 3rd

    I'll Never buy a Toyota again after the engine fiasco me and my wife had out of our 2008 we had. I can deal with a torque converter, which in the end was partly my fault for not ungrading the transmission cooler and gearing when I went to larger tires and heavier front and rear bumpers and added a winch.
