Dude, I’ve been trying to find a useful serpentine belt replacement guide for my 2012 touring for hours now, and your guide’s been the only one I’ve found that actually matches my engine model. An excellent firsthand guide, to boot - thank you, man!

Glad it helped someone out. It was an adventure for sure lol.
Thanks man! I have a 2012 Elantra Touring and your video made it a breeze. It took me 20 minutes and the alternator belt was rough. I am glad I did it, driving 350 miles tomorrow and that would of sucked trying to do it on the side of the road.
Omg...I've watched other videos and they were so complicated...your video was very straight forward and I replaced my alternator/water pump belt very easily and quickly. Awesome video
I was going to just go under to change belts , but after watching your video, I'm taking your advice And taking the wheel off ,and going in that way . Thanks for saving me time. I would Have tried to do it the same way you did. Thanks
Dude great video I have 2012 elantra touring (manual trans). I'm gonna follow your video to replace my belts.
The belt on my wife's Elantra failed in the middle of town lastnight, and this video just prevented me from having to drop money on a tow truck *and* a mechanic. You're the best! Thank you

Anyone looking for the alternator torque specs here they are. 8.5 - 11.5mm of belt deflection with 98N force applied, re-check belt tension after running for 10 minutes (10mins and the belt shouldnt twist more than a quarter turn with a firm grip - As you can tell by the change in lighting between belt 1 and belt 2 you should definitely 1000% start with the idea of taking the passenger wheel off and jacking the car up to begin with. Haha cheers bud great video this will be the same process on the 2007-2010 Elantra sedans as well.

@@RepairRenovateRenew interesting... I never got to run into that one. Wife was driving the car and got t-boned on the passenger side and totaled the car a few years ago. Miss that car though. I've had 2 and its still probably one of my favorites for a wagon.

Heya! Just wanted to say this video was super helpful! My belt melted off this morning and filled my cabin with nice rubber smell. I had a spare belt in my car already and was able to loosen the alternator with that bottom bolt that had no idea existed. I probably would’ve broken something if I didn’t know about that bottom bolt. Car is back and running again. Have a good Thanksgiving weekend from Canada.

@@BloodshedRomance One question dude, that lower bolt on the alternator, how did you get it out of the hole? Mine has a square head on the other side with what looks like a blocking plate on the alternator to stop the bolt from moving in case the nut falls off. Did yours have that?
@BloodshedRomance

@@arleatham the one under the car? Just loosened it a few turns. The one in the side? Just loosened it aswell. I didn't take any of those bolts all the way out.

Hey mate Thanks great help
Hey Bud, great video! This is the exact job I need to do on my wife's 2010 Hyundai Elantra. One of the belts is squawking badly, especially on startup, but both belts seem to have proper tension. I'm suspecting a seizing bearing on one of the rotating components, perhaps the idler/tensioner pulley? I won't know until I take the belts off and try spinning them. Thanks for the tips!

Glad it could help someone! Went looking for someone else doing it and couldnt find anything when i did this.
Great job man my wife thanks you
Push the alternator towards the cab to loosen the belt, or pull back towards the front bumper to tighten then adjust with the tensioner bolt. The single, most important thing that was not mentioned was the amount of tension on the belt. I would watch videos that explain the proper tension on these belts.

I wasn't opening that can of worms. I left that to someone else to explain.
Excellent
Nice video. Question what pulleys do the alternator belt go around?

the outer ones. the AC compressor is the inner one.

Is the belt tensioner bolt of the bottom belt reverse thread?

I don't believe it was. Don't have this car anymore unfortunately. It was totalled.
Great video Bro. If I need To change only the serpentine belt, is it also necessary to loose the alternator ? Thanx in advance !
@BloodshedRomance
3 жыл бұрын
There isn't a serpentine. Just the v belts. And yes. To get to the inner one you have to remove the outer one. The alternator acts as the belt tensioner for the outer belt, the tensioner under the car is the one for the inner belt.

Timing belt is internal to the motor. You probably want a shop to do that one.

Car was at like 70 or 80k or so I think. It was since in a wreck and totaled so I couldn't tell you for sure. One started squealing a bit which means it was slipping and since I bought the car used I figured I'd just change it when I found it was two V belts. There isn't a whole lot of sense in doing just one when you're right at the other one.
Thank you for sharing this video, you helped me to save money. May God bless you forever in Jesus Christ Name Amen.
