how thin was tube, not sure if i’m not placing it in correctly but seems like a thin spot?

I did the same method except I dropped the pan after I extracted all the fluid. No mess and I was able to replace the filter ($17), clean the magnet and clean the pan with break cleaner. That pan has a film on the bottom of very fine metal shavings that you need to get out. Ford says you can reuse the gasket, but a new one is only $20 so that’s the route I went. Just saying - once you pump all the fluid out it’s not much more effort to go the extra mile. Torque specs on the pan are 98 inch pounds, then a little over 7 quarts of MERCON LV and you’re rolling.

Good call on the filter replacement. Mine was pretty recent so I left the filter this go-around but would absolutely do that if you didn't know the vehicle history or knew it had been a while. Thanks for watching!

@@redonKiLaus Also - about once a month for about 6 months I’d pump two quarts out - then pump in two quarts of fresh MerconLV. The thought was that I could get close to a full fluid change without actually doing a flush.

could you pump the oil out and measure it then pump back the new oil using that same pump after cleaning?

@@redonKiLaus yes sir I did mine 5 days ago. Couple of suggestions if it’s okay. 1. Bought 2 lowes multi purpose spray cans for $10 EA. Drilled hole in middle for one and put 3/8 OD brass adopter and other end attached to funnel and used vacuum to suck fluid from Trans Pan. Second apart can is to put fresh oil . This spray can is miracle I pumped 6 qts in 10 mins. 2. Left my truck over night and sucked 8 quarts of oil including oil in filter and put back 6 quarts without starting truck then when truck is running put remaining 2 quart and drove 25 mins and checked the guage at 198F and it’s top of dot Mark B. 3. Torquing is not recommended unless you are using expensive one or dial torque. Tight using ratchet holding at head if ratchet. Fold dealership said torque ratchets can go bad and can result in over tightening the bolt and can strip next time while removing. 4. Make sure Orange O ring is removed from old filter and smear new O ring with old oil since it’s little more viscous.

I plan to drop my pan when I do mine shortly. I came here to find out where to fill it back up, so I should be doing this in the coming weeks.

Why not reverse your lines you drain it with and refill that way?

I don't have a pressure canister to refill from - on the list of tools to purchase but also difficult to use laying under the vehicle, so waiting to build a shop and buy a full rise lift before I get one. Thanks for watching!

By doing that you will not get out all. I have a Mazda bt50 which has the same transmission and I also pump out fluid and then remove the pan and drain the rest out. I cannot quite understand why someone would make a unit and do not put a drain plug on it. I have found some pans on eBay that have a drain plug that I will buy when the warranty is expired

It doesn't remove all fluid, but it does remove all 7 quarts that a pan drop will. There is an aftermarket Dorman pan for these with a drain plug, as well as some more expensive ones from B&M and others. I'll probably throw one of those on when I do a pan drop on this truck in the future. Thanks for watching!

@@redonKiLaus save yourself the headache and research the pan as our Raptors have a long filter tube and deeper pick up section. That Dorman is meant for non towing versions or something like that and our Raptors have it too. Our filters are 171 and that pan takes the "8" version.

@@redonKiLaus NP, I literally just ordered the Mag-Hytech pan since I ran into an issue after getting it all back together... the bulkhead sleeve didn't seat properly it drove like crap. Read a forum about the sleeve not being seated, checked and that was my problem. Dropped the original pan, made a bigger mess and I tried to use the plug to the sleeve to help push it in (bad idea) and it moved the slots and it now won't go in. Order a new harness, a new sleeve just in case and that trans pan in case I need to drain the fluid it for another f up. Pretty pissed about it all.

@@LPerez I feel ya. I may go for one of those pans next fluid change too. Quite a few out there, all I care about is best build quality and drain plug being there.

Not a good idea. The old dirty filter is still inside. You should open the pan and replace the filter to keep everything clean.

For maintenance changes, this method has always worked for me - I generally only replace the filter at manufacturer intervals (I believe 150k miles for these trucks). More frequent never hurts though. Thanks for watching!

Yeah. I like 60k mile filter and fluid change. And 30k fluid only changes. Check out the dorman pans with the drain plug. It’s a game changer 🙌

BAD IDEA!!! METAL IS STILL INSIDE AND YOU CANT VERIFY HOW MANY METAL SHAVING.
