The Phillies couldn’t get him out period. The ball probably looked like a beach ball to him all World Series. He was on fire. Absolutely raking

When the Yankees first signed Matsui we as fans were under the impression he was a power hitter with bad plate discipline. He was actually the opposite. Very solid contact hitter who could do a bit of everything at the plate. He was absolutely on fire this World Series. The Phillies couldn’t get him out.

Extremely well put. We instead got a .290 hitter who had some pop. Such a great guy to stick in that number 5 hole

Hideki was a great player for the Yankees. If he played his entire career here, we might have be talking about him being a Hall of Famer. He was that good.

2009 was such a different year for me. I was going through a lot but when the yankees won the world series I was so happy that they won. Thank you Yankees. I'm a yankees fan for life. :)

Same 2009 was a bad year for me I hated high school, and I lost my grandparents but seeing the Yankees win a World Series that year made me feel better.

This was such a great season never forget it I was actually able to see a Yankees win as an adult and not a child and got to celebrate in Times Square w a bunch of Yankee fans and New Yorkers it felt so nice we all felt as one in New York that day and I’ll never forget it

Andy Pettitte was the ultimate gamer. Every big game, he was the guy you wanted to give the ball to. Absolutely a Hall of Famer.

Still blows my mind how matsui can absolutely rock one out of the park on a ball so out of the zone

Matsui was a killer in both WS he played in.

We had a great supporting cast behind Matsui in that World series. The "Cap" Jeter as usual was clutch having the most hits in the series and great OBP, Damon also hitting a hot bat with a great OBP, A-rod hit well with 6 RBIs and great OBP, Posada hit well too while adding 5 RBIs. Matsui well, he destroyed the Phillies, driving in 8 RBIs with an OBP of .643 and batting average of .615...literally turned into Godzilla. We could have taken them out in 5 games with just a bit better luck.

Yankees are the best sports brand in the world.

Yeah it’s like he was calling a spring training game or something. I will say he got better in the last decade (excluding 2011 since he had a procedure on his vocal chords or something like that so he gets a pass). He’s been showing a lot more enthusiasm in big moments in both baseball and football. I think he finally understands that the majority of the people watching the game aren’t actually at the game and he needs to replicate that same energy that’s been shown in the game into his calls.

No way. Look at Pedro's performance with the Expos (1997) and the Red Sox (1999-2000-2002). Stats vs the Yankees: 32 G, 11-11 record, 3.20 ERA, 216.2 IP, 170 H, 63 BB, 261 K, 17 HR, 1.08 WHIP.

He was completely in the zone. Almost like when Michael Jordan would just take a game over. Matsui was absolutely locked in. It was amazing to watch it live back then.

Matsui was locked in. I got to go to game and man what a fuckin game. Burnett pitched a gem that night and Matsui blasted a 3 run homer if im not mistaken.

He was unstoppable. We loved Matsui here in NYC. The Phillies could not get him out.

This 2009 seems like just yesterday. After all these years, still bring happy tears. Wonderfully bringing back memories of the other players on that team- Swisher, Cano, Jeter, Texiera & on & on. Let’s not forget ARod. Truthfully, this beast took them to this final series, agree? Been waiting ever since. Need more rings here!!!

Hopefully, this year. I'd like to see Gary Sanchez sustain his current wrath, Luke Voight to stay healthy, and our pitching to continue to flourish. Cluber needs to come back strong, when he does. Just like he was before going on the 'il'. Tough year though with Boston and Tampa Bay. And, Toronto. But, we can do it!
