Love your vids dude. I pumped out my trans fluid instead of doing all that lol My trans fluid is overheating and I have to change it every 10k miles. Next fluid change ima have to do this because I wanted to change the filter, but didn't have the time and money to do everything I wanted. Kinda caught me off guard.

Thanks bro! Appreciate it! Yeah, pumping it out is much less messy than dropping the pan! 😂 Wow, I wonder why your fluid is overheating like that. Check your radiator out and see if it's blocked up with debris (dirt, leaves, plastic bag) Your transmission fluid goes to a smaller cooler that's inside of the main radiator so if there's an issue with overheating your fluids not getting cooled or there's a bigger issue with the transmission itself. @@TrickShiftGarage not sure why. The only thing that comes to mind is the retarded mechanics I've dealt with. I had asked if changing the fluid was necessary, they said no, took a long cross country trip and the problem started. If they changed it like I suggested it would've never happened. Anyways, Quick question. When you measure the cvt fluid level. Do you measure it while the vehicle is on, or off (after warming up)???

Yeah, that's true. Hopefully the new fluid will hold up better 🙂 So for this transmission, you want the engine on and running after a good 15 minute drive. Best time to check is when you get home from somewhere, leave it running and check right then and there.

I did not see much fluid coming out of the drain pan. Did you know drain it using the drain plug? I can't image how the fluid would come out like a river flow if we remove the drain pan without draining it first by the drain plug.

I'm leaning toward false, I don't think problems will start by doing preventative maintenance on any car. And it always depends on the transmission, how it was driven, the condition of the fluid as well as the internals. If your fluid level and condition is good and your having issues, it needs to be brought in for diagnosis. I've changed the transmission fluid on mine at 200k miles when I made this video and haven't had any issues so far. So if you can say to yourself that the car drives fine with no issues, go ahead and change the fluid to keep it that way. Just my .02 cents. Hope this helps, thanks for watching 🙂

Absolutely you can. CVTs are considered closed systems for the most part. These can and should have the fluid replaced every 30k miles and has two serviceable transmission filters that can replaced as well. Thanks for watching! 👍

Did you do this job on your transmission at 200k miles? I have a 2009 Nissan Altima that has 167k miles and I've been trying to do research on whether I should change the transmission fluid. Never have done it (wasn't aware of this) and now I'm wondering if changing it will do damage. I think your experience will give me a better idea of what to expect considering it's the same car. I appreciate the help!!

Hello there! Yes, it was right around 200k miles when this video was made. In my opinion, change the fluid every 30k miles. CVTs are very sensitive to dirty/old fluid as a lot of particulate matter can build up over a short period of time compared to traditional automatic transmissions. After I change the fluid in mine, it ran better than before, it seemed to "shift" better, like the car would go smoother lol. I also put some SeaFoam Trans Tune in there as well to help keep it internally clean. Hope this helps, if you have any questions let us know. Thanks for watching! 🙂

​I got to 167k miles without changing the transmission fluid because I wasn't aware of this maintenance. I feel a lot better about doing this change if you did the same thing and got positive results. Did you get to 200k for also not being aware of this maintenance? I'm definitely going to start doing mine every 30k miles, I'm just trying to figure out the best course of action because of the miles I have. I feel pretty good doing it considering you had roughly 33k more than I did at the time of your change.@@TrickShiftGarage

Oh yes, changing the 167k mile-old fluid will cause you to feel the difference after you change the fluid. The first I learned that it does require maintenance it had about 110k miles on it and I changed it regularly since then. I think you should be fine going forward. Good luck! 👍

Just wondering because I seen hardly any come out when you took the pan I’m just wondering so I’m careful to be prepared in case my oil comes out a lot more than that when I take the pan out or is it just gonna come out like yours,I don’t get that part.

Also could I use dw40 as brake clean for the magnets or is that no bueno pls let me know this could possible save me from having to buy a whole nother tranny

Since mine had a drain plug I drained it out first. So, when you pull your pan it will definitely pour out like a waterfall. Have rags and cardboard under your drain pan to catch any fluid that misses. It will be messy so have some safety glasses too 😉

You don't really need to use any brake clean or WD-40, some paper towels and some elbow grease should get all of the shavings off. You can even clean it with soap and water if you want it to be super clean, just make sure it's completely rinsed and dried off. Hope this helps, thanks for watching! 👍

Hi is it the same gearbox as the hybrid 2009 or is there a difference?

Hi Zanko! No, it's a different gearbox entirely because it has an electric motor inside to help assist the engine. I can't find much on these hybrids either. I suggest buying the service manual and everything you need for changing the fluid should be in there. Thanks for watching!

Honestly, I'm not sure. I've heard that NS-2 fluid is green but my 2007 Altima had red NS-2 fluid so I think it varies. Thanks for watching! 👍

Genuine Nissan NS2 fluid is about $27/qt now, which absolutely ridiculous. My first two fluid replacements were done at the dealer where they replaced about 12 qts (the entire system). Now that I'm out of warranty, I'm going to do these drain and fills (along with one the paper filter and the metal strainer). However, it will be the 5-6 qt drain and fill. Genuine fluid is clear to light green tint, in color. I believe it's made by Idemitsu (CVT Type N) and is id the same color. If your Nissan uses NS3, there is another Idemitsu CVT fluid type to use. Idemitsu brand is less than half the cost of Nissan fluid. Also, Valvoline makes a synthetic CVT fluid which I believe is both NS2 and NS3 compatible. I think it's a similar clear color. Make sure you get it in the blue and not red bottles (not sure the color fluid in the red bottles). This stuff is also at least half the cost of Genuine Nissan brand. I would prob try to stick with fluid that is not red because someone might think you used standard fluid and not CVT
