2009 Brute Force vacuum style fuel pump/fuel tap assembly replacement

This bike is carbureted an has the vacuum style fuel pump. I’ve found 0 videos about it so I figured I’d explain what I did to replace mine. Unfortunately all the plastics are on, but it’s a simple explanation. This video also talks about the fuel lines I replaced and hooking them up. Hopefully it helps someone.

(Looking from the back of the bike) the top right nub on the fuel pump is the vacuum line and the bottom left is the fuel delivery line?

So, I left the old lines on the pump when I removed it and used them as a reference to determine where run them and what port on the pump they go to. I know it’s not the greatest in the video because I had started assembling it and then thought about taking a video. From what I was able to find, I believe that the line that runs to the crank is the one that creates the vacuum. It goes off of pressure created by the motor.

Is it supposed to be gas going into the cylinder head I can’t figure out how to put the hoses back together

The two lines coming off the front of the pump go to each carb. The rear port on the pump goes to the port on the rear of the fuel tap assembly (back of bike) and the port that comes from the square of the fuel tap assembly (left side of bike) would be the line that runs down the right side of the motor, between the cylinders to the left side of the motor and then Into the front cylinder on the left side. I can’t see exactly where it goes to with my plastics on. Hopefully that helps man.

The more isolated nub at the back side of the pump is the one I ran to the fuel tap.

@@Dat-plati ok, I understand now. After looking at mine I believe that in my video I said it wrong. The two lines coming off the front of the pump go to each carb. The rear port on the pump goes to the port on the rear of the fuel tap assembly (back of bike) and the port you’re talking about that comes from the square of the fuel tap assembly (left side of bike) would be the line that runs down the right side of the motor, between the cylinders to the left side of the motor and then Into the front cylinder on the left side. I can’t see exactly where it goes to with my plastics on, but that’s where it leads to. I hope that helps somewhat. If it wasn’t 24 degrees out there right now I’d take the plastics off and get u a definitive answer.

I have a 06 and where the black pulse pump is I have a fuel tap there and the diagram’s are leaking so I’m getting the pulse pump but I’m trying to figure out why somebody should have put 2 of the tap fuel pumps on there if there’s already one in the back

Yea that’s weird. If u can close the petcock and shut off fuel delivery then that may be why since the fuel tap assembly doesn’t shut off fuel completely. I’m not sure about that tho. If that’s the case I’d have just put something inline.

Well the diaphragm in the tap is busted so it’s just pouring gas out but I have the to lines coming on the head they had one plugged off I unplugged it and put my finger on it and I felt it sucking in so I’m guessing the other one is to push out but I’m trying to finger out how to put that black pice on

@@blakeroberts5865 I’d imagine u could since u have the fuel in port from the tank/fuel tap, the fuel out port to the carbs and the vacuum from the crank. I’m not 100% sure, but I think it’ll work. May wanna put an inline fuel filter on it if u plan on leaving it tho. I’d do research for sure, but I’m interested in the outcome so lemme know.

If U changed the pump and fuel tap I’d try the lines next. I believe the crank is what pulls the vacuum for the pump, so make sure the line to the crank is good.

Yessir, it had been sitting for a handful of years so everything was trashed. Replaced it all, primed the fuel tap, and it started up. Needs a valve adjustment now, so I’ll do a video on that whenever I can get around to adjusting them.
