2008 Silverado Shift Cable Workaround
Truck wouldn't go into park, not shifting correctly. Found out shift Cable was dangling out of the groove. Temporary work around to get you out of parking lot! Bailing wire would probably work even better!

It'll get you off the side of the road. The little metal clip had disintegrated
