I had an almost identical Discovery, it was a 2008 HSE TDV6, same colour and interiour. It was an amazing car, took the family all over the country in it. Very comforable and prctical. Unfortunatly once it got to 150K miles it start having expensive problems so sold it, but I will always have fond memories of that car, from the kids sitting on the tailgate at the beach to sqeezing a christmas tree between the seats.

I remember when my dad used to have a 2005 Discovery 3 HSE when I was 10 years old, and I thought it was a brilliant car. Unfortunately he ended up selling it after just 5 months of ownership because of how unreliable it turned out to be. He traded it in for a 2011 Isuzu Denver Max Plus pick-up, bought brand-new from our local Isuzu dealer.

Probably because he didn't take care of his car I bought a 2009 HSE and I've put 178,000km on her and she's stronger than my Isuzu D-Max X-Runner 2018

I have a GS as it has to work! Ido all my own maintenance less electrics the better? I love mine but am very aware that keeping on top of majors is essential. Drop the oil every 5000 miles is best advice!

Guilty as charged :-) thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Hard to answer running cost question really, i suppose compared to other 4 wheel drives i would say that its no better or worse. I think if you can get a 3.0 litre thats the better engine, and also if you dont do a lot of miles, then the extra cost of fuel over a family saloon is well worth it knowing that if you are in an accident with your family in the vehicle there is a better chance you are all going to walk away

Barrie thank you for the video. May I ask you to forward the information of the garage which 'greased the hinges' ? That level of servicing detail is what I'm after. Hope they're not too far outside London!

Hah... I have thought so many times you are too far back :D No, if you get your shoulder out of the seat to reach the top of the steering wheel it doesn't count ;) If you feel comfortable with this seating it is up to you, but don't think the reason you are doing it is actually relevant - It is well designed system and wont hurt you. And you can measure the 10 inches and see how much space you have from the "danger zone". The "wrists" rule have point - it really gives better control in emergency situation. Any way, the other think I like to mention is (if I get right what you said) that this car is way way over 2 tons - it had kind of two chassis and if I remember it correctly it weight nearly 2.5 tons.

The only comment I would make on the driving position is that when your arms are extended to the point that they are straight with no bend at all, your ability to use and turn the steering wheel appropriately is compromised and in a situation where control of the car becomes an issue then your ability to control the car is affected adversely.

I bought a 2006 Land Rover 2.7L HSE during Feb, and it blew the head 3 days later, it had 113 000km on the meter. Its been stuck with the dealers mechanic ever since, especially during this COVID-19 lockdown in place in my country, South Africa. I've been doing a lot of reading and watching video's about its performance and reviews by different people. It is an amazing car, without a doubt - with its features, handling and comfortability and all...But...…. what do you guys think, should I carry on and give the dealer and the car a chance, and take the car after engine is rebuilt? Can that engine still give me 5-10 years? Please share your thoughts. Thank you.
