When they replaced this body style with the more crossover looking generation about ten years ago, I remember people commenting that it was hideous and this was way better looking. At the time, I disagreed, but now, over a decade later, I agree with them. I like this styling way better.

I just totaled my shared car with my mom, a 2007-2008 escape, and I miss it so much! The newer ones are hideous! If they remake is this model, I'd get it in a heartbeat! I drive a lot so we need a replacement soon, and I didn't really like the Ford fusion, or the 2014 C-Max hybrid. Ended up with a 2015 C-Max hybrid, and it's not bad! In the end, I'd rather have my ancient escape back. It was my childhood car, and what I learned to drive in. Being 19 doesn't give me much experience I know, but I loved that car!

This was my mom's car when I was a kid growing up. She had it for 11 years before a deer jumped infront of it on the highway. Throughout those 11 years, there was never an issue with the car and I feel really nostalgic whenever I see that brown plastic interior. I can still feel the click of the volume knobs and the hexagonal rubber trim in front of the glove box, hear the whine it made when it started up and smell the recycled tire interior on a hot summers day. My mom and I had a lot of good times in that car and I still miss it to this day.

A fishing buddy of mine has the first generation Ford Escape. It has the 2.3L 4cyl with an automatic transmission. He’s Not been kind to his Escape . The previous owner babied it and sold it to him for $500. It had 250K miles on it. He now has about 350K miles on the clock. I baby my Ranger when we go off roading to our fishing spot, whereas he beats the soup outta the Escape. It still doesn’t burn any oil. He told me that he was going to drive it till it drops.

The 2.3L naturally aspirated 4cyl was by far superior engine ever built by Ford. We’re on our 4th Ford Ranger. The first 2 Ranger’s had the 2.3L 4cyl engine. On our 1st Ranger we had 270K miles on it. My wife didn’t put it in 4WD, hit a patch of ice and flipped it in a ditch. Thankfully my wife was ok, but it totaled the pickup. When our 2nd Ranger had just over 500,000 miles, the electrical system fried on the pickup, so we turned it out to just use on our 10K acre ranch. We got the headlights to work, but that was about it. It finally died at around 650K miles. Our 3rd Ranger was an absolute Dog of a truck. It had the 3.0 V6 and by the time it had only 80K miles it was burning a leaking oil like crazy, so we sold it. We did tell the new owners that the engine needed a rebuild. After that we drove our F150s and F250s with the 4.9L (300 cid) In-line 6cyl. They didn’t have a lot of hp but they had a TON of Low End torque. Our F350s had both gasoline and Diesel engines. In 2019 our needs had changed so we started looking around for a low mileage Ranger. We needed more HP and Torque than the 2.3L offered, so we found a 2011 Ranger XLT super cab 4x4 with a 4.0L V6. It has a 5spd auto transmission, LSD, tow pkg, skid plates (though it’s never been off road unless I’m going to my fishing hole). The original owner was 62 when he bought it new in 2011. He added running boards, custom wheels, and a dashboard cover. We’ve added a LineX spray in bed liner. We didn’t care for the Silver paint so I had it 2 toned in Silver over Red metallic. The upholstery was Gloomy Grey and Boring Black so I had it reupholstered in Red with black trim. I added adjustable air shocks in the rear (we haul a lot of top soil, retaining wall bricks, gravel and firewood). I also had it pinstriped in red metallic. I use to get 19mpg on the freeway with the cruise set on 75mph. I then added a K&N cold air intake, a Free Flowing (tuned) exhaust headers and a 4” FlowMaster exhaust system. I now consistently get 23mpg. This increased my hp, torque and mpg. Not only is it capable of hauling heavy loads, but now it can haul ass too. We mainly use the Ranger for work around our property . It’s 12 years old now but has only 35K original miles. Like all of our vehicles, I change the oil and filter every 4K miles with Kirkland Full Synthetic motor oil. I change the front and rear differential, transfer case and a transmission flush every 30K miles. The radiator is back flushed and new antifreeze every 3 years. When we bought it in 19, it had only 20K miles. The man who we bought it from bought a new F150. KBB booked it out for $22K, but we bought it for $18K. Now that used vehicle prices have gone up, it now books out for $25K, not including everything that I’ve done to it. Last summer I had 2 individuals who wanted to buy it. One offered me $25K and the other one offered $28K. It’s NOT for sale. My wife and I plan on keeping it until we can no longer drive or until we die. If I had to replace my current Ranger with a new one with all the customizations that I’ve made to it. I’d have to spend around $60K. Our nephew (who has a 2010 like ours with almost 250K miles wants first dibs if we decide to sell ours). His dad, my brother in law also wants our Ranger. Like I’ve said, it’s Not for sale. We will let family fight over it when we’re gone. I’ve heard that Ford is having problems with the turbos in the current generation of the new Ranger’s, but the engine’s are still strong.

I did drove a 2009 Ford Escape as a loaner car. It was not a hybrid one. I had it about 9 days accidentally a little over 2 days. Luckily that I wasn’t charged for those 2 days. My mother said that I looked good in it. I even drove my sister’s 2002 Ford Escape for a short distance at night before her marriage towards her husband. I had a 2015 Ford Escape SE it died on me in mid March of last year. I had that vehicle for almost 5 years of driving it. Now I drive a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black. I got it on the same day as my old one died. I really liked my 2020 Ford Escape. I just liked the curves and how smooth the ride is.

I've been driving one for the past nine months or so, and while it drives nice, I have not had the same reliability as some others in the comments section. When we got it, some wires were crossed on the transmission, causing the car to go completely dead. Then, just a few days ago, the front differential blew (most likely due to improper maintenance from the guy who worked on it previously), taking the rear one with it. I just hope that this is the last major repair, as we have spent damn near close to $10k for repairs on a car we paid $3.5k for.

@@blessedrrabbit I have a 2002 Prius. I can sit at a traffic light without the engine, and still have cold air conditioning for about 30-45 seconds. The compressor is driven by the engine, but there is a cold-storage evaporator core. Could your Escape do that? Or did it have a regular wimpy evaporator that started blowing hot within 10 seconds of the compressor stopping?
