    Wow, this car is impressive. It is extremely elegant for such a huge car, with a really classic and beautiful interior. One of the first things I noticed is that it is super quiet, and it really wafts over bumps. I remember other cars you drove on the same route on some serious bad roads, this car just doesn't seem to care, it just floats over them. Really good stuff. And it is quick. Not fast, but quick because of all the low end torque. The Grand Marquis you mention is in a class of its own, but it will never ever come near this Bentley. The "new Bentley" shows a lot of very much needed technological progress, but the Continental GT and even the Flying Spur lost some of the charm that the Azure still has, even after all those years. Don't think about mentioning "Bentayga" and "class" or "stylish" in one sentence. No, this Azure and also the Arnage of the same era were the last classic Bentleys.

    As a RR owner I can absolutely inform you that it takes time to learn how to drive a RR/Bently. The reference to bring a "boat" is sort of correct but an extremely smooth boat. After a few drives one learns the cars charteristics. For me personally I am never in a hurry. Why be in a hurry. Enjoy the drive.

    I really appreciated the more taciturn approach in this video. I love your commentary, don't get me wrong, but having watched this late at night, tired from work, that quiet V8 rumble all throughout was surprisingly soothing. I'd have a Brooklands myself if I had the money - that comes with the peak form of the 6.75L V8 and I love the pillarless coupé look - but these sorts of Bentleys really are just the best of the bunch. Thanks for the video! Your videos always put me in a great mood.

    Funny time to post this, we have a '99 Azure at my shop currently with 38k miles. It's very similar besides the more 90s interior with a car phone in the console and disc changer in the trunk. There's many more switches and buttons though in the center area. One thing a video can't wholly express is the incredible quality feel of all of the buttons and switches. No plastic, everything is metal and weighted. That's the build quality I love about RR.

    These cars are actually quite robust. I think the weak points are the soft top hydraulic cylinders. But Bentley and Rolls-Royce are truly built to last a lifetime. So if you actually keep them long-term it becomes quite economical to own. Bonus if you can do some of your own maintenance. There are a lot of Volkswagen group crossover parts that can save a bundle.

    I would love to buy an Arnage from this era which I could afford except for two factors. First, I am Community College professor, and people will generically think I am getting rich off public funds which is not the case at all. But appearances matter. Most folks don’t realize that Depreciation is what makes an Arnage in the same price category as far more humble cars. 2. If something breaks that is really bespoke Bentley, the parts cost scares me: my husband can do the mechanicals on most stuff, but it’s a risk. For now, I’ll watch Ted❤

  • @Mike-rk8px

    @Mike-rk8px

    11 ай бұрын

    It’s not just that some parts will be very hard to find over time, but it’s the sheer amount of parts on Rolls Royce/Bentley cars that really shocks people. These cars usually have at least 6 mufflers, and you can just imagine the hours it will take to replace them, then add in labor and the cost of parts. An oil change will cost at least $500. A new convertible top is at least $15,000. You can just imagine what you’ll spend on gas and insurance. Bentley’s depreciate really badly, often people buy them and don’t realize the time, money, and commitment it takes to keep one running. Even if you can afford it, it’s still a major commitment. Sadly, they’re also not known for being reliable cars. Buying a cheaper used one that looks beautiful might be tempting, but it can be hiding a host of problems only a certified Bentley mechanic would see. If you want an elegant and luxurious car, get a top of the line Lexus: they’re famous for being extremely reliable, better made than just about anything, not expensive to maintain, and are virtually silent inside when you’re driving. There’s a reason used Lexus’ hold their value so well.
