2008: Alanis Morissette 'Hand In My Pocket'

Фильм және анимация

“Give it up, for Alanis Morissette!” With those words, the magic began: the give and take, the call and response, the telepathic link, all those things that can happen when a performer communicates directly with an audience. Things that happened when Alanis Morissette played at Toronto’s Masonic Temple during Canadian Music Week 2008.
The crowd’s immediate response was like welcoming an old, dear friend, a blast of friendly energy. And even though Alanis was casually seated, legs crossed, she responded with just as much energy, involving the crowd right away, sharing the vocals with everyone there. Alanis performed “Hand In My Pocket” off of her landmark 1995 album, Jagged Little Pill, laying a claim to her singer-songwriter bona fides by taking her harmonica breaks early and often.
What’s most apparent throughout the performance is her obvious joy at being there, in that place, with those particular people, those lucky, lucky people. It was a great party, and everyone was having a great time.
Alanis Morissette is an international superstar, with sixteen JUNO Awards and seven Grammy Awards, and records that have all gone Gold and Multi-Platinum. Recording her first demo at the age of eleven, she later appeared on children’s television, and even recorded generic dance-pop, but her iconic 1995 album Jagged Little Pill made her a star, with 5 charting singles, topping record charts around the world. She has since gone on to sell more than 60 million albums worldwide.

I see that 2008 was the year that cell phone cameras at concerts started being a thing. It's all downhill from there.

After you do a song 500 times in a row, you're going to long for a way to do it differently. Think of it from the point of view of the musician.
