2008-17 Audi Q5 P164B P164D P0341 low oil pressure Part 2

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In This episode I go through the steps I went through to solve a Low oil pressure warning light on a 2011 Audi Q5 . It also had three P codes. P164B, P164D and P0341. This is part 1 of a two part series. In this one I work through testing and disassembly with explanations all the way. I show and call out all the torque specifications in the video.

Great video, fyi, the balance shafts are revised, the newer version does not have the oil cavities in the end of each one. If you look closely the older style have a channel or cavity at the tip, and if I recollect is the same in the area where the screens are. *My only advice for the video is to pls keep the volume about the same for voice and music. ty

Interesting, I saw that there was a revision higher but did not know the differences. Thanks for that info. Also, thanks for the feedback. I am definitely a better tech than I am a video editor.

Great video. But it's crazy that you did all that work meticulously, and the problem is still there 😮. This common problem doesn't seem to have a common solution 😒

It's true, I have done several of these now. Although many things can cause the issue I have found, most are caused by either the cam bridge or the intake camshaft. It really does take careful examination. Thanks for watching and the comment.

Great two parter video on this job.. agree that the check valve sticking open in the bridge was the most likely culprit for low pressure.. curious I have gen 2 version I’m my B8 CAEB 2.0 with the high and low switch’s on the oil filter bracket/housing the blue and brown switches if I want to check manually is it the blue one to remove? BTW to pull the intake balance shaft you needed to remove the WP gear in the back were you able to hold the crank with long breaker bar and 24mm socket to break the bolt loose on the WP gear.. I’m about to do this same job for a buddy he’s at -8.3° adaptation on VCDS and I have the entire timing upgrade components but I want to look at the I/E BS too but concerned about that little bolt on the gear does it loosen easily? Again great detail here in you video as always 👍🏻

I don't remember exactly, but I believe it is the blue switch that reports oil pressure. The other is just a switch for the changeover valve. Can use either port to check the oil pressure, though if the change over switch is disconnected it may default to full oil pressure. I know it does if you disconnect the solenoid. As for the intake balance shaft, yes you do need to remove the water pump drive gear. ITs worth mentioning that it is also reverse threads (left hand thread) . When reinstalling be careful of the oil seal. If you damage it while reinstalling it will leak like a sieve. Thanks for watching and good luck.

I know I've seen it on another channel and another - might've been a later of yours - but the VAG procedure is that your engine coolant should be on a B8/8.5 @ 80°C and the rad fan should be on at least once, then at idle you should be @ 1.2 - 2 bar (17.4 to 29 psi).....Oil pressure at 2k rpm should be @ 1.6 - 2.2 bar (23.2 to 32 psi)....Oil pressure at 3700 rpm should be @ 3 - 4 bar (43 to 58 psi). So the general rule should be a bar per every 1k rpm except for @ idle.

wish i could save you a lot of heart ache down the road, it's almost never the balance shaft, it's the cam bridge and 100% of the time the phaser has worn out letting oil pass by. i would recommend replace the camshaft and camshaft bridge. that's all that's really needed.

Thanks for the comment. As I am coming across these more and more it becomes clear there is a bigger issue. I have seen my share of failed balance shafts. Some welded in so good they could not be removed. I agree with the issue being an oil control issue of the cam phaser. So far that has been the greatest successful fix. I have also been running a bit heavier weight oil in the cars that had these issues. Vw/Audi needs to now sell that intake camshaft for an affordable price. $800 shaft is crazy!

I recommended original parts on any Audi or Vw when it comes to critical items. Some of the best sources are FCP Euro and ECS tuning. If I am in a rush I go right to the dealer.

How do you get access to the service manual? I rebuild 2.0s for a living and the service manual would be a game changer

This manual is for service Technicians only. Unfortunately you need to work at a dealer to have access.

Hey there. I have a problem with my oil pressure on My Audi A6 C7 avant 2.0 TDI 177cv Multitronic (kzread.info/dash/bejne/X3mB1NuveZDLeco.htmlsi=PksaxrYTSBnFQjvq) I ear a noise when I accelerate (put volume on max to ear)... This error only appear when car it's already hot. Did you have a clue? Thank you

So I watched and listened to the video, The noise does not sound good. If the oil pressure is indead low that noise could be coming from the chain tensioners or valve train not getting enough oil. I would put a manual gauge on there and see what the actual pressure is.

@@willpoweredgarage969 I think I already know what's the problem with that noise. I had to switch termostat of coolant, and was added the new coolant without doing the vaccum of all system. I think this car need to have that process of vaccum before adding new coolant. That's why, I have air inside coolant system and make that noise. About my problem of oil pressure, I have the error P029900 and P164D00.

If the sensor is disconnected, the computer will see zero oil pressure. So, of course, the light will be one. I don't understand your point? Thanks for watching.
