CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Here is part 1 of a great match between Robert Smith and Brad Angelo, and I must say, I feel sorry for the people who have to take care of the lanes because of what Robert was doing!!!
Enjoy! :D

The funny thing is Robert Smith has lived everywhere. He lived in California, Ohio, Hawaii, and now in Hong Kong. Not only is he a great bowler, but a great traveler

2:13 That was the nastiest flush I have ever seen. It was like the moment the ball hit the pocket, all ten were in the pit before the ball got there.

He's been measured at over 850 rpm. One of the reasons he went to the Sarge Easter grip was to get his rev rate to a more managable 500-550rpm.

I don't have the tape anymore, it's the 1993 Masters. Jason Queen won, bowling a 300 in the semifinals. Jason BTW was also one of the best Golden Tee Fore players out there.

There's footage of an ABC Masters tournament where they describe the CATS system (I belive it's the one that Jason Queen won). Robert Smith was measured at 763 RPM, I believe it was his rookie year...

That ball isn't that weak, it's just meant to go long. So it's not too amazing to see that ball hook that much. That ball was just perfect for the way the condition was at that time, on fire.

@TyRTiThey are talking about RPM (rev. per minute) If you do the math he is looking at approx. 35 revs from set down point to contact with the pins. As far as being, educated I have over 30 years in the game, owned and operated my own pro shop for 10 years, bowled in college in the US and bowled with many of the guys you see on the PBA (Brand Angelo, Bob Learn, Tommy Baker, Patrick Allen and others) No disrespect meant by my post the announcer should've been more clear so you dont get wrong info

@sabeboy1977 Angelo is a really nice guy, he's just from Buffalo, NY is all. Everyone up there is like that.....and they all bowl really good too. He's running the BowlU clinics with Rick Benoit now. Focuses on the knowledge side of the game a lot with some work on physical. One of the tools he uses includes a to scale model of a lane. Having made one of these before, I can tell you it is surprisingly skinny. I had one that was 39 CM in width, but over 3 feet long.

your wrong, the cheetah is the shortest pattern but it uses the highest volume of oil and acutally i usually use a fairly aggresive ball to bowl on cheetah because of the high volume of oil

Your ass is right! As for the grip, whenever you decrease the distance between a finger and the thumb = decrease rev rate because there is a shorter time gap between the finger and thimb release. Also the farther the finger grips from the thumb, the easier to get under and around it; and the more axis rotation equals more axis tilt and more revolutions. The Sarge Ewaster grip would tend to keep the hand more behind the ball = less rotation, less tilt, and less revs.

+Riz2336 I think Smith had his ring-finger hole drilled out to a traditional depth to reduce his revs in later years. He's a beast :-)

  • @justafuji

+Jonas Butler The ringfinger hole only marginally reduced his revrate, from like 575 to 540ish (or thereabout). The main reason was to keep the ball more upright at the release, he had a tendency to tilt it too much, causing the ball to hook to irregullar.
