I've got a 2006 Jetta TDI since new with the 1.9 L & 6 speed ESG transmission which was standard in the GTI back then. Have had some problems with door locks and sunroof drain problems but otherwise very reliable! It was loaded with leather heated seats, dual climate controls and a really nice sound system- features now only available as an Audi premium trim package. This car has been wonderful on the highway but has also been a beast on fire roads as I've explored BLM forest lands. The snorty low end torque engine, the mileage, and the ability to climb fire trails has been amazing! Have got over 50 MPG if I drive moderately. I sure wish VW would clean up the sunroof drain and door lock issues which seem to be common issues with even their previous models going back decades because I might go for another brand next time!

If the headlights are oxidized, the cheapest and best way to fix them is (either yourself or pay to have it done) wet sand all the oxidation off then put a protective uv film over the plastic so it won't happen again. Had that done with my '03 A6 and they've been awesome ever since

How do I go about upgrading my stereo system on a vw jetta? I have an 08

My stereo is aftermarket and the climate controls I have differ from yours due to the package. Also, usually a blower with those symptoms simply needs the blower motor resistor changed.

I just bought an Auto Deisel one of these &, it works well! I'll post back if I have issues...

Good video! It was good that you covered things like the electrical issues towards the end of the video. Did u work on those yourself? Did u have to take it to a shop? How much did u spend approximately fixing the electrical issues? Were they draining your battery? Was it a parasitic drain?

My father recently bought a 2006 Jetta Tdi. all stereo console buttons are peeling off. He went to Volkswagen and they said " we know about it but it's not a recall" I noticed you have a nice stereo and navigation screen. I believe you have dual climate control turning dials, is this stock or did you add this. our blowing fan dial only works on 3-4 but 1 and 2 are not working. thanks please get back to us.

Do you know that your car has a hidden manual type of allen key hidden up by your interior overhead lights when you take the covering off. That is for manual opening or closing the sunroof should you need to in case of an electrical failure. Most people do not know about is.

Oh, yeah. That trunk is MUCH bigger than it looks, even with you in it. I brought home a queen sized bed from Ikea, mattress and all, in mine... with a passenger in the car. I'd like to see somebody pull that off in a Civic or Mazda 3.

I see a lot of these VW TDIs everywhere, especially where I live, I'd highly prefer and recommend the 5 speed manual when buying a TDI. Love VW's TDIs a LOT, they're pretty efficient!

GTA car kits has a kit to add bluetooth and aux for $150 or you can add just the aux for about $10 to $15.

thanks for the review. I'm looking a getting one as a second vehicle considering my Wrangler gets like 13mpg. one came in on trade at my dealership with 197 km (123miles) and I think after seeing this vehicle I'm going to pick it up for 5 grand

Got lots of problems with my beast now, cv axle and bearings are effed, rocker panel rotting off, rear shocks effed cuz the suspension is bad.

Too expensive to be worth it to be honest with you. I think it was close to $500.

you have digital display for temperature, we have a analog turning dial with the temperature shown around the button. and you also have a flashing light under the red triangle hazardous button, what is that for. On your cluster between the rpm gage and the mph gage you have a bigger screen. Is this a extra package or is it aftermarket. and also we live in Canada so this might be an American thing?. our package has a black leather sunroof, same rims , but doesn't have the buttons on the steering wheel and no fog lights. our biggest concern on our car is when shifting from 1st to 2nd there is a hesitation around 1800 rpm. The car went to 2 mechanics they suspected many things like EGR valve, vacuum valve in the turbo, and the ending result was 1 feed wire to EGR valve was broken somewhere in the harness, mechanic did a bypass ran anew wire. But after driving 150 miles in distance we have the same problem. Do you know anybody with the same problem?. on my car the oil dipstick is made of plastic ,is yours also made of plastic? everything else is amazing.

The dipstick is plastic and most of those things are due to my package. My car has about every option. Also, I would start with the egr. being a diesel they can get clogged with soot.

rae allison it actually stands for turbocharged direct injection. All the TDI from Volkswagen are Diesel engines

I taxied one of these cars for 3 years. The suspension is horrendous… it’s like riding on a steamroller. I removed the alloys and fitted smaller rims with a larger type wall which helped a little but still pretty poor. Great build quality apart from that

Technically, there is a difference between a sunroof and a moonroof, but today everybody mostly uses the terms interchangeably, and the truth is a moonroof is a type of sunroof. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for your thoughts. :)

I know some people rave about how they have 500,000 miles on their but me personally could not recommend this car, in fact I would strongly advise anyone against buying one based on my owning experience. I have a 2006 Jetta 1.9 TDI with 157,000 miles, owned for a few years, and despite it having a full and comprehensive maintenance record so far had a raft of problems; worn cam, failed turbo, pitted alloy wheels, hanging headliner, headlights fogged, finish inside very poor on control buttons, sunroof slides opens by itself, cam belt change very expensive. Even now is running rough I can't figure out why. Beware any savings in miles per gallon is easily offset by the expensive maintenance costs, I would recommend getting a similar age Toyota or Honda unless you enjoy spending your hard earned keeping a jalopy like this on the road, will never ever buy a German car again

The 2006 Jetta (MK5) with the TDI engine was known to have camshaft lobe failure. These models are incredibly unreliable. However, the MK4 had very strong engines. (BEW or ALH)
