My oil pan gasket is on its way out, not dripping quite yet just seeping as of now. I would have never thought about cutting the gasket in two to save the headache of taking that cross member out. I appreciate you documenting this kind of stuff for everyone because it sure saved me a possible trip to the dealer!

Just make sure that when you drop the pan you don't rush it like I did if you can drop the pan and let everything drip with no oil in the vehicle and then clean everything off after say 6 hours of no oil in the pan give the motor plenty of time to drain everything back down into the pan you'll be golden

You may even find a better spot to cut it then I did but this worked for me I have a customer that has two Porsches and both of them had oil pan leaks and the dealer wanted like $2,000 for one car and like $1,400 for the other and I use the same method and still to this day they are not leaking because you have to pull the motor mounts and then lift the motor way up to get the pan out I said no no we don't have to do that I drain the oil Put the plug back in Raise the motor up a little bit on one side but didn't have to pull it all the way up like a dealer was saying Loosen the bolts all the way around the pan and take them out I took a pair of side Cutters and I cut the gasket in 2 spots pulled it out of the way Can I clean the surface real good with brake clean making sure no oil was coming back down in the spot where the gasket would said that's why it's important to let it sit as long as possible and let the oil drip into the pan before you start the repair And then I took a dab with silicone and put it at each cut that I made and fastened the pan back up let it sit overnight to dry completely before putting oil back in I talked to this guy about 3 months ago and this is 4 years later and he says still completely dry Sometimes we have to think outside the box even though it may not seem like the right thing to do it saves us a lot of money a lot of time and a lot of headache

And then pulling the bolts out of the crossmember that go all the way through the frame oh my God a lot of them where I do pull the front end out of these the Bolts are terrible locked up inside the nuts that hold them in and then I have to end up replacing the hardware if you can even find them. it's easier to not rush like I did on this which still came out great luckily and let it drip longer

@@FordBossMe Hey man, I greatly appreciate the pointers. I'm planning on ripping into this after I take care of the bodywork that I've been putting off since last year. The compartment where the spare tire is held has a drain port that loves to plug up and ended up rotting out the whole floor of that compartment.

That was a smart idea to split the gasket like that. I also never thought to use the crank pulley to support the engine. I learn a bunch of great tips from your videos. Thanks for sharing.

Cradle is Cross Member, That's a great way to do a new gasket with permatex black on both sides for a good seal.

I never thought about changing the oil pan gasket that way before. I have dropped the oil pan down as far as it would go without removing the cross member and unbolted the oil pick up tube from the oil pump and slid the oil pan gasket over everything. Then bolted the oil pick up tube back and then the oil pan. This seemed a little easier to do it this way. I'll have to remember this for next time.

I've done this several times on vehicles that say you have to drop the crossmembers and it works every time but you know you always take a chance when you do something like this Key factors of letting the block and everything drain long enough to keep the oil from getting on the silicone before you set the pan I've pulled the pickup tube before and did it that way but then drop the bolt inside the pan and then have to pull the Cradle Key factors also being how clean you get the surface

@@FordBossMe For me, its always good to have different methods for getting the same results. I was worried too about dropping one of the bolts inside the pan as well. Like you said, its always a risk you have to take sometimes. You are absolutely right. Cleanliness is key, especially whenever you are dealing with gasket surfaces.

If you have four wheel drive you have to drop the front end down some you don't need to put it out completely though I guess I should say front differential not front end oh, and if you have two wheel drive it's just a couple hours

That part I'm not worried about honestly, what I would be worried about is the silicone not sitting up properly because I did it so fast and I didn't let it sit longer before driving off so I think anybody that does this job should at least let it sit overnight to make sure the silicone cures properly

You have to at some point look at time management and what tools are available and people are available and parts are available and for this car it's not easy getting suspension bolts especially specialty bolts that go all the way through the frame LONG WAYS so this would save somebody a huge headache doing it this way if they took their time and just was very patient and clean

Not shiwing any details on what you did?? I Like to see what you're doing while you're doing it. Just telling us what you did? Like how did you get access to all the bolts to lower the pan did you have to remove the crossmember or raise the engine for Clarence by loosening the engine mounts?!

@@FordBossMe Did the job today. Tough one first time round. Had to do a whole new pan because customer went to Quick Lube and they stripped the plug. I did the 3x motor mount bolts to the frame on either side under the control arm bushings. Getting everything to line up going back together was a pain. Probably a mistake to do those bolts and not the uppers. I used your idea and put a screwjack on the crank pulley to raise the engine up. I took out the EGR tube, wiper arm assy, cowl and trans dipstick so they wouldn't hit. I took out the radiator fan to make a little more space up front. First time I got to work on one. Your video helped me a lot, thank you.

Okay so you have to buy the book pull the whole front K member down I mean the whole entire front suspension has to come off the car to get the oil pan out of there or you have to pull the engine but I'm going to tell you what I did I loosen the motor mounts I put a screw Jack under the front of the engine and lift it up then I took everything off of the oil pan bolts lines wires whatever was connected to the oil pan and I just dropped it straight down in chassis and then I took the gasket and I cut it in both corners an opposite side of each other straight diagonal and then I cut the new gasket and then I put it back on the pan one side and then the other side and then took some Ultra gray silicone and put it in the two cracks where I cut the gasket and then I re secured My Pan and I waited about 12 hours before I drove the vehicle put everything back together
