We’ve dipped our toe into most custom motorcycle genres in the Purpose Built Moto garage. I like to keep it dynamic around here. We’ve built Choppers, Bobbers, Café Racers, Scramblers, Electric Bikes, but a lot of the time, a forgotten niche (and crowd favourite) is the Retro Racer.
The goal with this style was to stir those emotions of nostalgia and speed just by looking at it; we wanted you to remember that first time you saw a moto GP race on TV as a kid. That was the goal with our Suzuki SV650 retro racer build.
This episode we'll run you top to tail and beginning to end on all the work we completed on PBMs first retro racer.

Absolutely Fantastic build. PBM Knocking it clean out of the park, as always on all their builds. Great work guys, clearly PBM has become the best builders in Australia. As we have seen it all in our many years, so many pop up come and go, yet PBM has set the new standard and Proven themselves time and time again, which is honestly great to see as was needed in our industry. Congratulations!

I really like the the headlight choice you made. It flows really perfect with the windscreen. I also like the way the tail light compliments the rear side markers. Very well done as always 👌🏼

Awesome build. The SV650 is a great bike - especially that model: light weight, fuel injection, super reliable. (Crappy suspension though)

Couldn't agree more! With a bit of suspension work they’re a lb epic little machine
Need some foam strip around that headlight, riding with bleed like that at night messes up your night vision something terrible.
Should go belly pan. Something about no belly pan takes away from symmetry of sport bike. Naked bike still needs belly pan to create that point under the radiator

We played around with belly pans, but couldn’t find one or create a shape that suited the retro styling. They all made the bike look too modern
Hi great build but what bike is the fairing for?
Heck yeah, you got the 80s look down. Nailed it. Was there any remapping of the FI to optimize the exhaust work?

Yeah definitely I mention we had the bike dybotuned with Dynomite moto and we have the HP results in the build blog linked in the video notes if you’re interested

Been wanting to do some bike building myself. One thing I have wondered about is how easy/hard is it to get a custom bike registered, road legal?
