Im not a mechanic but I do a lot of the work my cars and some other minor things on friends and families cars. I get most of my knowledge from a friend who owns a shop and from youtube. You sir, have contributed to this. Next week I will be doing this exact job on my brother's 1.2 grande punto and I knew this was doable and im going to make it but you make this look easy. Thank you. Last week I ribuilt his entire suspension, front frame, valver cover gasket. I really love wrenching hehe

That's a nice job mate! Got a question: Is it easy to change the engine an gearbox mounts while gearbox is on?
@qwertyuiop2895
Жыл бұрын
Top ones are very easy, just support the engine or gearbox (depends which side you are doing) with jack. Central/bottom one (differential mount, "dogbone") is a bit harder, but still doable at home, you just need to use more force, and more tools (restricted access to 1 or 2 bolts - because exhaust pipe - "E" type socket will not fit, you need "E" spanner).
@GrandePunto8V
Жыл бұрын
@@qwertyuiop2895 In emergency you can do hack job using regular hex tools. For example 14 mm hex (and/or 12 points) will do the "E" series bolts here ("dogbone" mount), but this is sketchy and "method" may fail.

Nice guide man! One question, do you recommend the flywheel to be resurfaced?
@WMCS
3 жыл бұрын
In my years I’ve never skimmed a solid flywheel. The clutch plate has built in springs and dampers to pick up any sort of imperfection from the flywheel surface. Even then we’re talking a friction plate agains solid metal .. so no need.
@a.f.1587
3 жыл бұрын
@@WMCS Thanks for your answer. I'm asking this because i'm planning to do this replacement, because i have a slight vibration from the engine when idling. Otherwise the engine is running fine. And when i'm pulling away, the car judders violently. I have to play with the clutch, or release it very slowly, or give more throttle if i don't want the car to stall. This is only in 1. gear, other gears are fine, when the car is moving, i have no problems with clutch. The clutch has been changed 2 years ago because this judder issue, i thouhght that the clutch was dying since it was still the original. But the replacement was probably a cheap shit from China. After the change it was ok for a year maybe. Now i have this juddering again, and slight vibration when idling. That is why i'm asking, cannot be that the flywheel is not perfectly aligned, that is why it vibrates, and that's why the whole engine judders when the clutch is starting to bite. I bought a more expensive clutch set, but i don't want to put it in until i find out what is wrong.... Thoughts?
@WMCS
3 жыл бұрын
Ok I’m with you now.., one of two things. The clutch kit was of poor quality. 1.The pressure plate is not squeezing the clutch against the flywheel., faulty pressure plate. 2. Worst case is the flywheel May be warped., Once you take the clutch out use a DTI Gauge to check run out on flywheel.
@a.f.1587
3 жыл бұрын
@@WMCS Thanks, this is what i was thinking in the first place, shitty noname clutch set. After the replacement it was fine for a few thousands KM. But i was thinking, even if the clutch is bad, the engine should not have any vibration when idling, the clutch is not touching the flywhell in neutral... That is why i suspecting a warped flywheel. But i have no idea why and how the flywheel can be warped??? BTW i checked all 3 engine mountings, especially the bottom one which is holding the transmission, but they are absolutely fine. Strange. Maybe one of crankshaft bearings is dying? In that case the whole crankshaft would have a little play, causing the vibration of the flywheel... Anyway, i will get a DTI gauge and try to measure, i will be smarter after the transmission is disassembled. Thanks!

@qwertyuiop2895
@GrandePunto8V
Жыл бұрын
@@qwertyuiop2895 In emergency you can do hack job using regular hex tools. For example 14 mm hex (and/or 12 points) will do the "E" series bolts here ("dogbone" mount), but this is sketchy and "method" may fail.

Thoughts?
@WMCS
@a.f.1587
Thanks!

If you did not disconnect the slave cylinder and the piston for it did not pop out and you lose any fluid you won’t have to bleed it out. If that’s the case it sounds like my 1st comment about the release baring on the fork came off.
How much you charge for that job I have 2006 fiat punto

I have send the form last night só I'm waiting for your response
its possible to change clutch without gearbox removing. unscrew driveshafts, gearbox. move gearbox from engine a little bit. no need to unscrew arms and remove driveshafts
@WMCS

Dipl100 Qwer that won’t be possible. You may cause damage to the transfer gears if the driveshaft is still in and being forced on.
That gearbox looks a lot like a fiat 500 or KA

This is classic Fiat gearbox (C514... series), design from the 80's. Used in multiple models.

@@johncoady9237 All passenger cars are similar. So, what's the "problem" here? Take the tools and just start doing it (repair). Don't wait for specific instructional video (or blog, or fiat forum guide).

I wonder why the plastic engine and wheel-well shields are missing. They cover the entire lower area and specifically protect the engine from water/slush/snow :)

@@VortechBand Because it depends on the engine type, version. Some were equipped with shields, some not (originally, from the factory). Adding them is up to user.

The process is almost the same in every passenger car in the world. No point in asking such things.
Looks so easy but it is not, can't believe that any bolt wasn't seezed/rusted
