Its 13 years old and 180k, there are going to be things that go bad and wear out, overall I see many more of these vintage and even older Suburbans, Tahoes, Yukons, Silverados, etc running around still on the road vs Chrysler or Ford products of the same age.

For your airbag light being on, it’s your counter-clock spring that has gone bad, it’s behind the airbag in the steering wheel. And all of the stuff you are mentioning, that’s all minor repairs and maintenance. Consider yourself lucky, I had the rear differential lock up in posi-trac and self destruct the rear end on my ‘04 Suburban Z71. Luckily I found a rear end on Facebook marketplace, and bought it for $200, swapped it out and is good as new! As with GM IFS (independent front suspension) components, that is always common with these trucks, around 100k-125k miles is when the front end usually needs to be rebuilt. Great video, and I may or may not make a video about my 2004 Suburban Z71 and talking about the pros and cons as well. Cheers 🍻

    1. If you like the sound of the engine, go to a muffler shop and have them rip your muffler out, trust me. 2. Bose audio does in fact have a sub, it's in the console. I agree, it's one of the best factory systems I've heard. 3. '03 Yukon, 125k. Replaced cats, and an a/c compressor is the only trouble since it was new. Stupid stuff like the CD player and gauges don't work, but otherwise solid as a rock. The piston slap is "normal" on a cold start, will not harm the motor. Just don't rev it until it stops.

First, I'm sorry that (apart from the stereo) your truck is rather disappointing. I have an '06 LT that I bought with 140k on it... for $8k. That was a steal, IMHO, and I've now put about 35-40k miles on it myself as a daily driver and towing a 7k travel trailer. It has a crappy aftermarket single DIN stereo so the redundant controls don't work. The rear driver's side window lifter-thingy broke and I'm too cheap to replace it, so I used 2 self-tapping screws to hold it up permanently. The driver's door switches for front windows and locks are starting to go. The only things I have had to replace are the rear blower motor resistor, the steering shaft bearing, and the intermediate steering shaft. All that to say I still absolutely love my Suburban. For all around utility, plus hauling the family with plenty of room, I don't think it can be beaten for the money I've put into it. As long as I can keep fixing it for less than new car payment, it's totally worth it.

I have a 06 GMC Yukon 4x4 with all the options and the 5.3 with a 4.10:1 rear ratio. That thing is a beast and will climb any hill I want! I have not had to replace any of the things you say and I have 150K. Of course I bought it when it was only 3 years old and I do all the maintenance on it my self. All the problems that you list are minor and may have happened b/c of lack of maintenance by the previous owner, and something just need replacement after so many miles. If you 5.3 has good oil pressure try putting 1/2 quart of Dexron III transmission fluid in the oil and rive it around for a few days before doing an oil change on it. I also use about 8oz of Marvel Mystery oil wit every oil change. This may help your ticking.

My trany did fail down in Mexico and it was fixed economically AND never had a problem with it since. I also replaced a water pump in Mexico and three or four times I've replaced the window tracks. The car needs nothing and is very reliable, so I have no complaints. Most significantly, there's no issue in the Engine which uses no oil at all on long trips which I attribute to Synthetic Oil Changes - very pleased with the 5.3 V8.

It doesn’t matter how many miles are on it it matters on how well the car was taken care of I bought an 06 for 5000 had nothing wrong with it had 144,000 miles on it I put eight times that on it and it still runs great but if you guys know anything today about those suburbans the 2500s and the Tahoe’s are worth three times more than what they normally are worth because everybody wants them so if you’ve got one don’t get rid of it

We used to have an 04 suburban until we bought a crappy brand new nissan pathfinder. I miss our old suburban. It was so comfy and felt like I was sitting on a couch. Our nissan sucks. The seats are uncomfortable and I have to move all over the place all the time. I'd still buy a suburban once I have money.

The GMT800 platform is basically a never buy. I have an 04 Escalade, and while I would have no worries about driving from the East cost to the West coast today, GM cheaped out wherever they could. I just replaced my hydroboost brake booster, which I considered setting my vehicle on fire because that clip that holds the pedal to the brake booster is a bitch to get off. And the hydroboost I bought leaks. I'm not going to replace it again. Maybe I'll get another adjustable pedal assembly off of eBay, and drill out that peg the clip that holds the hydroboost to the pedal rests on out, and put a grade 8 bolt and nut onto it. But as much as I crap on my Escalade, for being 15 years old, it doesn't have a squeak or rattle. I will give the thumbs up to GM for that. But, other than that, the SUVs from that era are worthless.

This guy is just negative. Older vehicles will have to have maintenance, it is not brand new. I’ve had mine for almost 5 years with the original drive train, engine, transmission is all original and it is still going strong to this day and it has 220,000 miles. It’s all about how well the vehicle was taken care of, and if the previous owner was on top of repairs. Even then you should expect to replace parts as IT IS NOT BRAND NEW.

Boo Hoo, how dare Chevy expect you to repair things on a truck with a 180k that’s 13 years old. It could be worse, you could’ve bought a ford, which you would have been on your 3rd engine and 16th transmission. You don’t seem young enough to be part of the snowflake generation. Man up bro !!! And BTW, the ticking noise is a stuck lifter. They make that noise with 50k on them. Don’t recommend buying unless you get a good deal ??? I buy them at 180k and run them up to 300k or 350k

Damn he must have gotten a lemon. At 284,000 the only issue I had with my transmission. Impartially that’s my fault. I had huge Patoon boat and a H1 show hummer that I pulled constantly with it. And I replace the headlight control switch. That’s really been about it
