I wrote and produced this short branded film 13 years ago. It was directed by Michael Apted, a great talent and human being. It ran only once on TV during the 2004 Season Finale of American Dreams and was named the most liked commercial of the year by Ad Age. That was about 2 years before KZread was even around. Somehow it found it's way on here. So great to see people still enjoying it.

On my way home from my first tour in Iraq is when I purchased my 67 Mustang. Like the father in the comercial, looking forward to purchasing it kept my mind off of the bad things while I was there. It also kept my mind clear the second time I was there. Owning a Mustang has been my dream since I was 14. To me, it's like owning a piece of America, driving it, is what it feels to be American.

Being a fellow Mustang owner, as well as a proud American, this video really evokes a lot of emotion in me. Not only to the US soldier, but also to the Mustang I lost recently. This video makes me shed a tear every time I watch it. Just the strange connection a human being can have with a 'piece of machinery' can spark such emotion, as well as the theme behind this beautiful commercial. God Bless our troops, the Mustang, and Ford for coming up with it and all that it stands for!

This whole commercial made me sad. His mom and brother were late to pick him up, he seemed lonely at a party in his honor, and he doesn't have a close relationship with his father. He seemed sad throughout the whole commercial. A new car was nice, but a deeper relationship with his father would have been better.

Awesome Commercial !!! GOD BLESS AMERICA , GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS !!!
Soooo...so TRUE, "4doororphan", so TRUE! I dare say that YOU are a Viet Vet!! Because ONLY a Viet Vet can "feel" THIS! It brings me to tears EVERY time I see this! When I first saw this "commercial", it brought to me to serious tears! I thought, "Man! I wish I had a Dad like that!" LONG STORY SHORT...after I saw THIS commercial, I told The LORD, "Wish I had a Dad like that!" THE VERY NEXT DAY, I TOOK MY CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP NEARBY AND THEY WERE ABLE TO APPROVE MY TRADE IN FOR AN 2009!
Best commercial ever
@mrsnake500 Thanks for sharing! This is one of the best commercials I have ever seen. I was one of those guys in 1968 that went overseas to jungleland. I had a mustang (66) in high school but got a differen car after a tree met that ne. I always wanted another one and got one in 2008 that is the same red as the one in this commercial. Just traded it in for a 2011 red one that has the old gt package and love it.
Jesus christ.. This is the best commercial ever.
Great commercial! I'm not big on fords, I love the classic mustangs though and damn they did a great job on the new ones.
This is a great commercial...
Was thinking Chevy should make a commercial like this but with an astronaut to advertise the new C8.
Ford F-150 - best selling truck for 30 years running. Ford Explorer - best selling SUV on the planet. Need I say more?
Not me watching this while I’m Germany not able to get my mind off the mustang I bought before I came here lol

I'm a Chevy guy, But Great story Thank you Ford!!! Suppor our Troops!!
Wow...just wow.... I may not be a Ford fan, but this was one brilliant ad. So what if it used underhanded pathos? It's still a wonderful thank-you to the troops.
Now that made me want a Mustang
This looks like it could be a movie premier or something along those lines.
