Now with both titles decided last time out in Corsica all eyes were on the fight for 2nd between Markko Martin, Carlos Sainz and Petter Solberg. Could Martin make it 2 in a row having won in Corsica his first win on tarmac and Ford's first on tarmac since 2000, could Sainz repeat his 1995 win on his last appearance in front of his home fans or could Petter Solberg bounce back from a low key 5th place last time out or would he be hamstrung by his Pirelli tires. Away from the main game Rallye Catalunya also played host to the final round of the JWRC for Super 1600 front wheel drive spec cars. It was a 4 way fight with 7 points covering the top 4, Guy Wilks lead the way for Suzuki 3 points clear of team mate Per Gunnar (PG) Andersson with Nicola Bernardi in his Renault and Kosti Katajamaki in a third Suzuki a further 4 points behind in 3rd and 4th who would emerge as champion.
