2004 Volkswagen Touareg V8 Walkaround, Review, and Test Drive

Take a look at the first model year of Volkswagen's highly acclaimed midsize luxury SUV!
**Sorry guys, this model actually has 300hp, not 340hp like originally stated.
"The five-passenger Touareg is an all-new midsize SUV from Volkswagen. Designed to provide both excellent handling on pavement and a high level of off-road ability, the Touareg, despite its unibody design, is a real SUV, not a soft-roader. Alongside that, buyers can look forward to beautifully furnished cabins equipped with plenty of standard convenience and safety features." (Edmunds.com)

    OH MY GOD I LOVE THESE!! Thanks for this video these are my favorite SUV'S! My dad really wanted to buy one back in 04 when they came out but he went with a used passat instead because it was a lot cheaper and easier on gas. We're a Vw family as you can probably tell lol. Oh yeah and of all of the VW's we've had none have done that with the buttons even after 180k on the passat. It really shows what a difference my obsessive detailing has made.

    I love that engine... Not many SUVs that sound like i high performance Audi when you rev the piss out of it... I love to take mine to 6500 RPM all the time.

    the reason the buttons and finishes on the dash are like that is most likely from someone using an aggressive cleaner to clean the dash which "melted" the soft touch covering on all of the plastics.. its not typical. *I own many VW's and a v8 touareg*

    Yeah, I have one the same year with 60,000 miles on it, and the buttons show no sign of wear whatsoever. These vehicles were known to have quircks.... I certainly would say they have personality, and a fair bit of pep. The engine is a bit over 300 HP, but has over 400 ft-lbs of torque. Feels really nice to drive, and the engine has a great high performance tone. Fuel mileage is horrendous, though. ** People buy HP, but drice torque.

    So I have a question about the compass in the clock if you are still active on KZread or have the car. Does the compass only come on when the car is on or is there a button you have to press to make it display?

    German buttons are a bit sensitive for fading. The chiming is typical for the US. No car chimes in Europe...

    That problem with the peeling in the interior seems to be common in VWs/Audis of the early 2000s. I have test driven a few and almost all of them had that peeling paint especially around the shifter

    I loved these! And I love the first gen better than the second because of how rounded off it is. I don't care for VW's new styling. Side note: there is NO REASON why buttons should look like that. I shop used cars all the time and VW and AUDI are the only makers that have the buttons rubbed of so bad. Who is going to buy a car like that? I wouldn't. I could understand if it were like the #1 button for the radio, but almost every one?! and the window switches?! They obviously had cut corners.

    It was Porsche's call. The Touareg was given to VW by Porsche in exchange for funding by VW to allow Porsche to build the car as a desperate move to prevent from going out of business. Basically, Porsche was desperate and needed the cash from VW; in exchange VW took the rights to the patents on the Porsche Cayenne and built the Touareg using all the same tech that the Cayenne used. It's their payment for subsidizing the Cayenne, which went on to be Porsche's best selling car, successfully saving the company from closing it's doors. The down side is that the VW lowers the value of the Cayenne and directly competes with it, undercutting it in price, hurting it's sales and resale value -- the result is that we have super cheap used Cayenne's and Touareg's for sale, which is good if you're broke, a student or want a cheap car to take skiing. Amazingly, despite internal competition, the Cayenne was still Porsche's best seller. The other upshot is that the Touareg is identical to the Porsche, which is why it drove so great. The v8's in the Touareg and Porsche are different, but I am pretty sure this was by VW's choice, not because they were forced by Porsche. The v6 in both cars is identical.

    I disagree, a 2004 car should not show this type of ware. Our 2004 Odyssey didn't after 108,000 miles, neither our 96 Civic w/90k nor our 89 Accord with 200k. Our 1999 Sienna has everything wrong with it right now (misfires, transmission failed and blew up in smoke) but hey the buttons are still painted and aren't worn, even after 182K lol.

  • @IKhanNot
    @IKhanNot12 жыл бұрын

    Not necessarily. Many other brands have soft touch interiors but VW/Audi have always used buttons that wear out for no reason at all. All the care in the world won't stop that, it just reacts to human sweat and oils poorly. I've seen shitty Japanese cars that don't do that.
