2004 Steel City Chevy Trucks 250cc AMA Motocross Championship (Round 11 of 12)

Спорт

This is round 11 of the 2004 Chevy Trucks 250cc AMA Motocross Championship from Steel City Raceway in Delmont, PA.
Returning contenders like SX champ Chad Reed, Kevin Windham, Sebastien Tortelli, Sean Hamblin, David Vuillemin, WSXGP champ Heath Voss, Michael Byrne, Nick Wey, Ernesto Fonseca, '03 125cc MX champ Grant Langston, Tim Ferry, and 4-time defending 250cc MX champ Ricky Carmichael battle it out for the 2004 Chevy Trucks 250cc AMA Motocross Championship. This series is dominated once again by Ricky Carmichael. This is Ricky Carmichael's final season with Team Honda after announcing he would be riding for Team Suzuki for 2005. This race is well known for the King of Supercross (and 1995 250cc MX champ) Jeremy McGrath making an appearance outdoors for the first time since the 2000 Glen Helen opener. Rookie Mike Alessi scores his first career overall podium with 5-4 moto scores for 3rd overall.
NOTE: I apologize for the brief portion cut out during moto 2 -- the tape I initially used when this first came on ran out of room.
Enjoy.

That he is. Hard to believe Villopoto won't be even touching any of his records at all since he's said to be retiring after the 2015 season.

Yes he did -- he rode the 250cc class right away in his first ever race at Millville, and did terrible -- 0 points.

Hahaha. That's because the original VHS tape I used ran out of room and used a new one that I'd used previously (hahaha). Glad you still like these.

RV is great man. Hate to see him retire. Maybe he'd be a little closer if he didn't have so many injuries. But RC just so dominate. Reed pushed him 1 year and Stewart pushed him 1 year. He got even faster after each. I think If RC would've keep riding..... Wow! They need more books for the records lol.

Yeah, it's hard to believe Villopoto has only ridden in 26 Nationals in the 450cc class and 39 in the 250cc class (and 3 championships). He'd probably have at least 2 more titles if he wasn't so frequently injured. To this day, I really believe Reed would've won the '12 championship if he didn't crash at Dallas. As for Carmichael, I wouldn't doubt that in the least, but at the time, Ricky didn't really have anything left to prove. He won just about everything you could think of; I think the only thing that would've REALLY made his career complete was if he won a championship for Yamaha and make himself the only rider to win a championship on all 4 different brands... but even so, Ricky's already got himself a solid resume anyway.

@@MathewVsSportsMediaandGames the rooloffs have more problems they break to easy because of excitement. When you are in the middle of a race and grab at the string to pull, it sometimes bursts or break's. It's funny it only break's when you need it. That's my experience IDK what u saw happen to him

@@ryanbarker4422 You're talking to someone who never used the roll-offs before. I raced before in my home state of Hawaii and always used the tear-offs because they were easy to dispose of.

04 outdoors is the only title ever won in America on a CRF450R.... never won a supercross title. 18 years and counting for a premiere class title. I call it the RC curse...even Roczen couldn't get it done. Sexton or Jett are their best shot at it in the near future... If Sexton can't put in a consistent season I don't see him getting done.... if he can't this year then next is his best shot outdoors, both Eli and Ken will be gone, Jett will be moving up most likely for 23 outdoors and full time in 24. Personally I'd rather see Jett race the other coast on a 450 to get a feel/settings for it in supercross and also experience a full 17 round series plus 12 rounds of outdoors in a year... after supercross stay with the 250 again for outdoors to go for 3 titles (if he wins this year). That would out him in elite air with guys like RC and RV who've gone on to do great things in the premiere class. I don't like how you're forced to move up in supercross so young, if you win rookie year then you get one more to defend and then fed to the big dogs... Guys (especially ones as young as jett) need experience and time to progress their speed and racecraft and be molded into a potential 450 champion... I think moving up so early hindered Sexton in some ways, it can potentially ruin promissing careers. It's even worse if a factory 450 seat isn't open. Jett is already going to be with HRC so theres no worries there, but I still think it's too early. So hopefully he'll get a second 250 supercross title, ride the 450 opposite coast for experience and get some race settings to go into 24 off-season testing with and then go after another 250 outdoor title. His style will definitely fit a 450 better, he's strong mentally, he's fit, tall, and has speed to burn... everything points to 450 success as long as he maintains his focus on racing and not get distracted, stays healthy and doesn't get mentally screwed by moving up too soon and getting waxed in the beginning by the top guys.

Yes that's right about Honda. It's hard to believe Chad Reed was their best shot at a title and he couldn't deliver one due to injuries and bike dissatisfaction (the '13 model). I remember hearing RC was willing to take a pay cut to stay with Honda, but after Honda kinda ignored him and threw a ton of money for James Stewart (only for Stew to stay at Kawi), RC left Honda for Suzuki. It was a BI-I-IG mistake on Honda's part and they're paying for it. That's what people are saying about Sexton -- get a title before Jett Lawrence jumps up to the 450cc class. I don't know if JL18 will make a big splash on the 450, but then again, some people do better on the big bike (John Dowd, Ryan Hughes, Ken Roczen, Jeremy McGrath, etc.). The best thing Honda can do is just let Jett come into his own and perfect his skill (like McGrath did). If you let him get to the 450cc class too soon, I don't think he's going to learn much of anything and his career will be hit-or-miss before he knows it.
