Installed headers on my 2004 Jeep WJ 4.0.

Doug Thorley headers, Magnaflow cat piping, Flowmaster 40, 2.5" piping and 3" tip.
This was a fun project, but be prepared to spend your whole weekend using lots of sockets, knuckles, and extensions. When you are installing, I'd recommend not attaching the headers to the cat piping until after the headers are bolted to the engine, this is against directions but I found it much easier to do this way. You will be better able to install the bolts and will be able to position the headers and intake manifold exactly where they need to go on the engine cylinder head and align them to the gasket. As you can see, I learned the hard way!

yeah gasket or your manifold is not fully seated, trust me it can look seated but there's even a gap a few widths of paper big it's going to get extra air and rev like heck. You need to wiggle the manifold as you get it close to the engine and also notice there's holes on the manifold that nipple guides from the engine have to fit into. That is what got me as one of the guides didn't fit in the hole.

Nice video dude, so informative. I had the same issue with my intake collector I ignore what to do, so I ended up returning the header, what kind of gasket you did use and where to get it?, that way I can buy the header again 🤜🏽

Bryan Cordero thanks. FelPro at AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts. I didn't care for the one that came with the headers and their recommendation of siliconing. 3 years later, no problems.

ChiefGrandCherokee04 so, u mean the felpro one it’s thicker right? Thanks anyway

Yes the FelPro is thicker and just seems to be better quality than the one that came in the header kit. All gaskets should be FelPro!

What you see in the pictures is actually the headers gasket with silicone... but obviously that didn't work!

Notice mileage or any seat-of-the-pants power increase? (assuming your original cats weren't plugged)

No, but I think an intake, tune, and 4 hole injectors combined has to do more than standalone each. More so for the sound. The stock headers on 4.0 are high flow but prone to cracking as mine did.

Is the down pipe included or did you get that separately?

@@two_inline_sixes this is exactly what I’m afraid of. Do you think the problem is better or worse being lifted 3 inches? How hard was it to change the motor mounts?

@@jhow3d688 bleepinjeep does a great video in roughly 10 min how to change them. The garage you inspect it at can do this cheap as i6 are easy access with lots of engine room. The hardest part is installing the pipes, you need another person under with you to hold while you reach and try 100 times to line the flange bolts up without cross threading.
