Took me and my dad roughly a week to do. Granted our Mazda was much rustier than the one in the vid so a lot more trips to the hardware store lol. Video was a great guide though for the entire process. The absolute worst part of this entire job was getting the lower ball joints and the axles out given that they were seized. That and the pilot bearing was frozen in place so we had to drill that out. Of course as soon as we got it all back together the starter blew so we had to get another one of those. We loved your bitching about ford Mazda crap it was a joke of ours for a while. Thanks for a great video guide

You will find the job wont be any different in a 'vw, audi' or a 'hyundai kia' or a 'subaru toyota'. in fact its likely to be much worse. This guy isnt particularly careful and just moans a lot. Example, tightens the clutch bolts with a 'torque stick' which are not calibrated, not accurate and not recommended for final tightness. They are for getting 'close' before using an actual torque wrench, then puts oil in the box he 'feels like will be ok' rather than what it specified. wouldnt take my car to this guy. These mazda 3's are relatively simple to work on for the majority of jobs. Do an oil and air filter change on a VW and one on these and you will agree, it can be MUCH worse.

Great video! I have been using it for this project quite a bit. I have a Mazda5 2006 but the inner drive shaft (connected to back side of trans )is different -- 5 14mm bolts, three on the frame with one under shaft pipe blocking any ability to use impact-- and 2 additional bolts on the carrier bearing. You did a quick fast forward of this @ 13:59 but I didn't see if you needed any disassembly from passenger side? Should this thing come right out without doing anything from there? I saw another video showing the guy removing with the inner shaft still fully intact and not sure this is the correct approach esp when reassembling. Thanks

@@RustBeltAuto . Yes bread works very well to get out pilot bearings. The benefit of using bread is there is no chance of getting a squirt of grease in your eye and less mess too. When I first heard about using bread I was skeptical, but while rebuilding a ford 4.2 engine a couple of years ago I decided to try it. It works very well. You just have to keep packing it in and eventually the bearing is forced out. Once the old bearing is out, the bread is easily removed with a pick or flat screwdriver.

You can always check that crappy wire connector in the solenoid. Don't know for sure about your problem, but on gm's, when they do that, the first thing I do, is leave the key in the ignition, with the key on for about 15 minutes, and the car recognises the key, because it losses memory for it, the security light stops blinking, and it starts. You could also try a spare key if you have one. Recheck your work. That is the best advice I can give you.

Instead of spending money and doing all the work on holding the motor in place with that steel brace going from passenger side to driver’s side with chains attached to the steel brace and connected to the engine eye loop brackets, what I did (Ricky “SLAYERS DISCIPLE” Hughes) is placed 2 cinder blocks, or what ever you prefer for a sturdy flat surface, and put a Jack stand underneath the oil pan (which is aluminum so be gentle and use the “F” word, “FINESSE”) closer to the transmission and have something underneath the transmission to support it while you loosen the transmission mount on the driver’s side. I used a floor jack with a flat surface on top of the floor jack. Use anything that is rigid and wide enough and thick enough to support the weight of the Mazda 3 standard transmission, and the transmission will start to lean downward at a perfect angle when the transmission mount is detached on the driver’s side and you will see that the engine has stayed in perfectly good position on the jack stand when you lower down the transmission nice and smooth and easy. So much easier and a time saver and money saver than too try to hold the motor in place from up top. The guy who did this video on KZread is a great excellent mechanic!! But I think my way of holding the engine in place when taking out the transmission is way better and easier. I’m not knocking the man for his mechanic knowledge, just maybe I believe I found a better way to support the engine. Other than me hanging drywall and metal framing in the drywall union for the last 24 years, I have grown up in the automotive dismantling industry since my father owned Hughes Auto Wrecking in Lemoore, CA for 35 years before I was 10 years old. I was born in 1976 so do the math on that. My point is that I’ve always been around cars my whole life so it’s nice to know how to tear apart and put back together my own vehicles when something breaks or is worn down. My hats off to this mechanic on the Mazda 3!👍 I’m actually replacing the clutch on my 07 Mazda 3 for the 2nd time as I type. Jack stand for engine support!!👍🙋‍♂️😉
