2004-2006 R1 Transmission Repair Part 1
This video will demonstrate how easy a transmission change can be on any superbike. If you are not equipped with the knowledge, manuals and tools to perform this job...Don't! For those that have an appreciation for engines...this video is for you. Don't be scared of the unknown. My motto is..."It's just nuts and bolts."
2004-2006 Yamaha R1 Transmission replacement, but I believe these procedures will work for all years. Special tools are needed. Torque specs are required. Label and bag all parts. Use red loctite inside of the engine, blue on the outside. Replace all rubber gaskets, and outer gaskets with new ones. Use Yamabond #4 for your semi dry gasket. Take your time and have patients.

Thanks man, you explained it calmly and perfectly, just what I needed.
That service manual has saved me so much time and money. I love my 5vy. Fourth gear is making a lot of noise. Will be referring to your videos in the near future. Damn though, new transmission at 20k miles? Im around 57k miles, oil changes every 1k miles.
Awesome job bro & thanks A LOT!!👍👍🙏! You showed me pretty much all i needed to know. Haynes manual is on the way with the entire replacement tranny for my "new" 03 R1! I've did 5.0 engines & pretty much anything you can think of but kinda new to motorcycle engine internals. Guess ill be a r1 wiz before too long. Thanks!
Hey man, I just bought a 2003 R6 that is slipping in second gear and thanks to your video I now know what I should be looking for when I crack the case open.
Nice to hear you mention the "beauty" of the mechanics in the close tolerance transmissions, they really are a work of 'art'...some are better than others but compared to my Royal Enfield 4 speed gearbox, they really have come a LONG way.
DAAUUMMMNN finally found a video that can help me. Thanks for posting. I just bought a 08 r1 but it in pieces. Going to be my first bike to rebuild.
Excellent video!!!! I am looking at buying an 03 R1 down in Mexico, and it has a bad transmission.
Very well explained ... From a technician to a technician.
Yes man best video out there . So much information. I also work on my own bike. Good advice on putting everything in plastic bag s
Super video
Liked n subscribed brother!
I thought it was the teeth on the gear that was broke but it's actually the male thing that connects them is worn down great video thanks for this
Gruß aus Deutschland...
I believe the dogs are part of the actual gears. They interlock when the gears are moved. So essentially the forks engage the dogs
Bro your a fantastic teacher 🤙.. I have an 05 r1 that grinds only when I start the bike, after it's started it runs flawlessly..I'm assuming it's my generator driven gear?.. the flywheel is old and has visible wear but all the gear teeth match up nicely but I keep burning up the starter clutch inside the drive gear . Any advise on the issue?? Please help I'm about to loose my mind!! I'm more than ready to get back on 2 wheels
nice video mate. i can feel rough transmission on my kawa z800 at 4500rpm followed by vibration at handle bar. noticeable at 4-5-6 gear and fifth gear slips a lot. could it be transmission bearings?
Thanks for video.Owner of so many Kawa bikes I am stunned that Yamaha made R1 gearboxes so weak. Why?
What if any COULD be GOING on i had no issues before i replaced chain
just checked on my new 520, RK maxx superlightweight EVO spec, its IN route, looks like tues afternoon,
I used blue loctite cause the servicemanuel doesn't give specifications wich colour you should use. It just says ''Loctite''. Why should you you use red instead of blue? Should i be worried now? They say if you ever want to take it apart again blue is best to go.
