Great video, thanks for posting. I did this on a 2005 Vue to replace the clutch slave cylinder. One tip, disconnect the steering rack from the steering shaft with one bolt. The steering rack drops with the sub frame.

I thought the slave cylinder and master cylinder formed a closed system. Why did you have to take transmission out?

I changed an engine in a Vue last year. I disconnected the steering, exhaust and a few other things, then dropped the complete subframe engine/transmission onto a couple movers dollies then rolled the whole thing out from under the front. Piece of cake.

Thank you for this video. I think yours is the only one out there with regard to a Saturn Vue manual tranny removal. Still not sure if I want to tackle this beast of a job in my garage, but at least I know it's possible for a DIYer to do it. I'm guessing putting everything back together was a pain in the arse. Taking things apart is the easy part, getting everything lined up to reinstall is the hard part. Thanks again. P.S. This same job at most shops is going to cost you $1300 to $1500 in most shops, I know because I've had it done 3 times in my '05 Vue.

Pop the ball joint off instead of the steering knuckle bolts. Once those are removed it usually means an alignment is needed.

Hi, when you said there's a lot of work to remove the transmission. The first thing came to mind is the TUCKER 48. You can remove the engine and transmission out and put another back in 30 minutes. The dealer would have installed a loaner in your car, in 30 minutes.

Great video. one bell housing bolt not shown in the video is up on top of the starter. I got all the bolts out shown in the video and the transmission would not come down. Pulled that last bolt out and the transmission came right down.

On my 2003, that starter bolt doesn't go thru to the transmission bell housing. However, the starter has to come out because there is an 18mm bolt hiding above it that has to come out. Just an FYI.

use an alignment tool, like he mentions in another video about the timing chain, the vues engine is more delicate than most. So exact alignment will make your repairs last a lot longer.

Important question for the comment section. I have a 2006 saturn Ion 2.2l 5-speed that has no hydraulic line from master to slave cylinder. (Discontinued part) But the part (slave and hydraulic actuator line) for the Vue is still in production, the bolt pattern looks identical between the two. Will it work? Because I'm planning to buy the two parts next week to attempt to get this vehicle running.

You say stuff like 'there's a bolt right here and here and another one there' and the camera is so close, people have no idea where you're referring to. How about referencing where the fasteners are you're talking about in relation to other things like "to the left of __this___" or "about a foot behind the ___that___" ? It's a helpful video in some regards and entirely frustrating in others.
