    I would just like to point out to anyone that may not have easy access to a lift or jack for that splash shield, both fans can be taken out without removing the T-bar. The condenser fan can be wiggled out with only loosening the top portion of the bar and the rad fan can be removed easily by removing the battery tray

    @@enriqueflores4094 Turn the key to on (you don't need to start the car), and then turn the heater fan knob and AC on also... so you can feel air coming out of the vents. Then go look under the hood, to see if both the radiator fan (driver's side) and the condenser fan (passenger side) are spinning. Of course, be careful not to stick your fingers near the fan blades... just look and listen for them. If those fans aren't spinning, then something is wrong. Check for voltage at the connectors. If you have about 12 volts at the fan connectors, while the heater fan knob/AC is turned on, then your radiator fan or condenser fan is dead. If you don't have 12 volts at the connector, then work backwards to the relays and fuses in the fuse box under the hood. You could have more than one problem to fix, all at the same time.

    Thank you so much for posting this, I changed both fans on my 2009 Element with ease thanks to this video and the comments left by everyone. I completely agree with Valarie as the most time consuming part was removing all the clips from the undercarriage splash shield. A couple things I would recommend to a non-mechanic type is to definitely pick up a pair of $9 mechanix gloves from home depot or wallmart, you'll save yourself about 20 minutes of cleaning up. *if it's too hot grab an lava bar of soap or a pumice type cleaning agent as all that brake dust and grime will get everywhere! Also if you remove the T-bar- be sure that's the first thing you attach as I attached the top portion (although not tightened) only to realize the T-bar was stuck on the wrong side of the mounting plate it connects to underneath . =| Lastly, like @ssippishark said, you don't have to detach the radiator hose... just take the passenger side fan out first and then gently work the drivers side fan towards where the passengers side fan was and remove the same way. It will take some tilting & rotating, as already noted ,but be patient cause it's much better than having to add/replace coolant and clean up any that spilled. I was quoted $600 to replace both fans, but know this - I already knew both fans were bad, always start trouble shooting with the relays/fuses. My parts were roughly $125, shipped with prime, and took me alil over an hour. I would say on a scale of 1-10 DIY project it's a 5 or 6 depending on how mechanically inclined you are. Just watch the video carefully and if you have difficulty removing the cables under the engine, be patient, they have tabs that need to be depressed- it may take a flat head screwdriver if you have fat fingers like me. * make sure you push each connection point completely in until you hear a snap when reinstalling!!! Good luck!!! ****Will reply once the fans give or if anything goes wrong.

    You most likely need to remove the lower splash shield to get at the two bottom wire clips. Otherwise you risk breaking them. Also, as long as you have the lower splash shield off you can undue the lower nut along with the upper nuts to allow the "T" bar to float free. Once it can float free (no need to disconnect it and pull it out like in the video) you can wiggle the old condenser out. On my new channel I talk a lot about maintaining a Honda Element. Feel free to check it out.

    At the bottom of the radiator is a radiator fan SWITCH. The coolant temperature SENSOR is on the engine, not the radiator. A lot of people confuse the two, or don't realize that they're different. It makes ordering parts complicated.

    If neither fan runs with A/C on they are suspect. Easiest way to tell is disconnect the 2 wire connectors and check for power with the A/C on. They should have battery power 12.5-14 volts on the side connected to the wiring harness. You can double check by hot wiring the fan side of the connector from the battery. If nothing happens you are sure they are dead. BTW if you have no power to the fans when the A/C is on, you have a different problem.

  • @richardcase1653

    @richardcase1653

    If the car has not been overheated, is should be fine. Both of my fans were dead and A/C blew more or less ambient temp at idle. But water temp did not overheat at idle, barely moved. Apparently my cooling system is in really good shape. This was at 88° ambient temp. With dead fans, watch out in stop and go or idling for temp to go up. Driving along, plenty of air is going through radiator, and A/C will get cold and temp will stabilize at normal.

    Martin Marsh the vehicle came in with both fans not working, most likely one of the fans failed awhile ago and the 2nd fan usually picks up the slack, then the extra load in that single fan makes it fail quicker,

    I had the exact same experience myself yesterday in my GFs 2006 Element. I ended up unseating the red/blue wire from the socketed connector trying to get the condenser fan out. And to add insult to injury, the ground wire that goes from the AC socket to the compressor body broke. I'm guessing 12 New England winters took their toll on the wiring, as it basically just disintegrated. Thankfully, after some tinkering, I was able to repair the socket with the red/blue wire that attaches to the bottom of the condenser fan. This site is what supplies the 12 volts to engage the compressor clutch. Unfortunately, the fixing the ground for the compressor proved a bit more challenging. The screw in the AC compressor that holds the ground wire was entirely rusted/stripped, keeping me from repairing the ground at the compressor body. My solution was to splice a new ground wire at the socket and I ran the new ground wire along the bottom of the radiator and attached it to the ground wire harness located under the driver's side headlight. This is a major grounding point with at least 5-6 ground wire located here, so I knew I was guaranteed a good ground here. I know your issue was a few years ago now, but after experiencing your same cinema, I simply had to reply..
