2002 Sterling Acterra Wrecker Cummins Diesel Start Up, Engine, And In Depth Tour
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video I give a full in depth tour of a 2002 Sterling Acterra Wrecker Cummins Diesel with a 6 speed manual transmission. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this truck while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this truck designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

typical Sterling.. rubber clutch pedal pad fell off, dashboard all busted up, headliner falling down..but you can beat the shit out of them and they keep going..

Damn thats a nice rig! Love it!
i like the commercial vehicles that review channels like kyles does instead of just talking about lamborghini’s or other fast cars
I know this is a really old video, but do you know what the bulb size is? I have a 2001 that I want to add led's to but dont know the size.
1:26 Love the startup
That beeping noise is no disturbance. I drive a 1991 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD that has that same tone. After 3 years of driving the vehicle I am long since used to it.
Wow that truck has been used from a long time and this truck is the only one it has a lot of miles! That's a most used truck from a long time !
That speedo is straight out of a Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2

That's because the instrument cluster is from Freightliner and those buses are built on Freightliner chassis' lol

@@danlenox1430 And because before its discontinuation Sterling trucks of that era were made by the Daimler-Benz Freightliner group who also made a few other truck brands that have since been discontinued in favor of Freightliner being the sole commercial truck brand besides Mercedes made by the conglomerate which at one time included Chrysler motors, hence there being at one time a version of the Ram truck branded under Sterling
What camera do you use during the video?
omg dude this is so cool.
That truck stole parts off of a ford/dodge/freightliner/Toyota??/
Isn't it on the big trucks like those that your aren't suppose to turn the wheels without moving because you can hurt your powersteering pump? just wondering because thats what i've learned with our western star semi.
that Cummins looks to be an ISB Engine; and as for the Cab, it looks to be very heavily based on the Freightliner M2 Business Class; which was introduced around the same time this truck was built.
Do more heavy vehicles like this one
Cool Video
I like your videos
@01Tahoe10 Turn signals and door opening/closing-sounds is my obsession xD
Not a crazy fan of trucks, but this one looks badass
Holy balls. Big truck.
sounds like matts4290's 2002 Blue Bird All American Rear Engine bus with that same Cummins ISB engine! :D
It would be really coo if you posted a in deph review of a school bus.
Kyle, I've got a question for you. What kind of watch have you got? I think it looks really nice! I like your video's, especially the junker ones. You're a lucky man to drive such a nice Hyundai at your age. Greetings from Holland!
0:53 "it's got like a hydraulic lift on the seat" It's probably an air ride seat typically large trucks have those air ride seats. It kind of feels like a hydraulic one especially if you haven't been in a large truck but that is what an air ride seat is like.
Awesome
the beeping noise is the same as the Thomas Built Buses buses! lol.

Yes it is and so is the gauge display.
this isn't a bad looking truck for a wrecker. gotta love the cummins. i just can't figure out why the ignition is on the left instead of the standard right.
@1bentley4ever powerstrokes aren't used in meduim duty ford trucks. Until about the mid 90s, the Ford/New Holland 6.6L and 7.8L turbo diesel I6s were standard. They were some of the most durable diesels out there along with the IH DT466, though they smoked a lot and were hard to start. The EPA restricted them off road since the 90s.
That's the same instrument cluster as on a new Thomas Saf T Liner.
@pjtart it is actually based off of the ford louisville class, cummins powered and probably has a spicer transmission.
1:02 UGH THAT ANNOYING BEEP IS THERE ANYWAY TO SWAP THE BUZZ WITH A CHIME?
the window switches/ A/C control unit/ steering wheel resemble Ford. Does Ford make Sterling?
Damn that's a lotta miles.
5:50 Benny and the jets is a good song but at 5:59 journey-who’s crying now is a better song.
Fun Fact: the instrument cluster is a Freightliner dash off a Freightliner
@01Tahoe10 whats sick about it. somehave a thing for pedal pumpers. i cant figure that one out tbh
@wizard101emily well kyle tha battery locks up somet times to keep charge
air ride seats nice
gotta love the rattling sound of a cummins diesel lol

@TheCalumCars Sterling was Ford's medium duty truck line, Freightliner bought it so the M2 Business Class would have less competition. Freightliner has cancelled the Sterling line, so they are no more. Neat little trucks though, I'm considering buying one.
@Chris07860 with 400000 miles that engine is just nicely broken in. A general rule of thumb is if it's been properly maintained since new, a commercial diesel engine should last 700000 miles or more
@01Tahoe10 i do! along with the rest of the vehicles :-)
nice
ahhh that buzzer
Are you sure this is a 2002? The gearshifter looks like it's 50 years old and my 73 Ford has the same ignition and the steering wheel looks like it's out of a 92 Ford f150

They carried some of the older Ford parts over from the Fords. I've been in a Sterling, and it has the same outside door handles as an Econoline and the inside door handles are the same as a 92 F150. The AC knobs appear to be out of a 1997-02 F150.
El amor donde cuentan las historias y todo el corazonsito... LOL
reminds me of my ford louisville

nice, sometime I'd like to see you review a nice 70s or 80s cabover like a Peterbilt or kenworth
@kendrickevans301 OK, LOL. I wish I knew that about a year ago when I drove my driving instructer's car. I drove it like a petrol/gas car haha. I wondered why the torque dropped when I floored it.
so coooolll
@1americancarfan sounds like a 6bt to me how bout u?
@kendrickevans301 It doesn't need many RPMs. Diesels have a higher torque at low rpms
You see a lot of leftover details from Ford, starting with the 90s Ford steering wheel. Of course Sterling took over making Ford's heavy duty trucks after Ford gave up on that in 1999 (:
My dads 1992 GMC Sierra Extended Cab has less miles than that

How much for that truck?
I kind of wish they Put A Cat 3126 in there. It has more power and sounds cooler. It is also a more modern engine and has HEUI fuel injection.
how much are you asking for it
@americaPWNScanada Not really surprising this thing probably still has another 300k left in it if not more depending on how the truck was taken care of
@pjtart well ford dropped its heavy duty trucks in 2000 or so except it's medium duty f600s and f700s which is basically the same payload as the louisvilles, except they aren't lifted as high and not as capable as the old louisvilles for heavy hauling. Apparently, I guess Chrysler owns sterling, but they are based off of ford heavy duty trucks.
my uncles paving company has a sterling dumptruck with a mercedes engine and it sucks but for the truck it is a well truck
Kyle is hilarious
Ford style doors + International Steering Wheel + Freightliner buzzer + Freightliner Shift Lever = STE LING ACTERRA
@koltindriver5935
Жыл бұрын
8 years late sorry, but that wheel reminds me of an 80s Ford truck. The Acterra was, at one point, the Ford Louisville (when Sterling was owned by Ford). The late model Ford Louisville models and the Sterling Acterra is identical to the Ford Louisville, besides the rebadging, and the gauges.
@04smallmj i know thtat, i was pointing this out to somebody because they didn't know that this truck gives 100% of it's power a@ 900 rpm, i know, i am a certified diesel mechanic, this was @ somebody, and they know who they are, thanks though
@avick84 I know because my tow trucks (18), i have a buisness, is a 2005 Dodge "sterling" ram 3500. So Diamler AG had to have owned it atleast in 2005

i would not call that an "in depth tour", and the seats aren't hydraulic they're air ride. Which explains the buzzer you heard for the first part of the video, bc it was low on air.
