This is my 2002 Honda 919, Hornet (UK), or CB900f. I have done several mods on the bike as you can see in the video and plan on doing several more. I hope you enjoy!

    I have an 06 919 and had it since it was new. Still love it, though not much riding the last few years due to an illness. But ready to pull her out here soon and am really looking forward to it. I have had a lot of older Japanese bikes including a 1978 Yamaha XS 850 and also a sweet little 81 Honda CB 650 (almost like a 4 cylinder flat tracker lol) that were way fun to ride. Before the 919 I had an 82 Honda V45 Sabre and while she was fast, the 919 was in a different league. I mean, those bikes are 24 years apart, and boy was I impressed. The Sabre, in it's day, was a very fast and nimble street bike, but the 919 was to me...well...amazing. I have been on motorcycles since 1967, when I was six. I am now 55, and have been riding for a very long time. And this has been my favorite bike of all of them. I have commuted on it, done thousand mile weekends on it and carved quite a few canyons here in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and foot hills on it. And it has handled it all without even a hiccup. Just normal maintenance and go. This motorcycle, while popular in Europe, was very under appreciated here in the States. If more people had known about what a just straight up great all around motorcycle the 919 is, I think Honda would have sold a lot more of them. Just my two cents. Thanks for the great video. Gave me some real good ideas for my bike.

    2002-2004 are all the same and 2005 and after are all the same. The only differences besides color choice are the suspension upgrades to the later models and the cluster has been slightly upgraded as well with a clock built in. Otherwise, there are no differences. The rear suspension was just slightly upgraded to be more adjustable and fully adjustable front forks were put on as well. Hope this helps answer your question.

    thanks it helps a bit, do the 2004 or 2005 and up have the check at start up where the 2003 and below do not? does the start up check do a hell of a lot? in your opinion is the 2002 worth the savings over a later model?

    To get lots of info on the Honda 919, head over to Wristtwisters. Link is in the video description. There are lots of 919 owners there and a very friendly forum. You will find all the answers you need to the Honda 919 with that resource. :) My tag on that forum is OSIRIS, but there are individuals a lot smarter than me that could help you as well.

    whats the main differences between the 2002 and the later models?

  • @mawatkins
    @mawatkins11 жыл бұрын

    The startup check is on all models 2002 and above I believe. As far as savings go, most guys replace the upgraded suspension with Ohlins or something different anyway so 2002 may not be a bad idea. The downside to that is more wear and tear on the rest of the bike compared to new bikes. If you trust the PO then getting older is not a bad thing. Miles rarely make a difference on the Honda 919.

    The windscreen is a Ducati Monster Buell M2 Carbon Fiber Windscreen 919, I found it on eBay and got the mounting hardware from a Harley dealership. Good luck!

    thanks for reply! i have a 03Tuono and only starting to learn how to wheelie but its very hard to control (easy to lift but snatchy and not very smooth), and i was thinking that maybe Hornet900 would be better

    That interesting. I am not a wheelie expert by any sense of the words, but wheelies do come a lot easier for me on the Tuono than they ever did on the 919. I expect gearing play a large role in that. Both have pretty good balance imo.

    hi:) like all your videos! i have a question regarding your bikes! I noticed you had an aprilia Tuono 1000 and Hornet 900. How do you compare these 2 bikes? If you wheelie your bikes, which one is easier to wheelie??

  • @mawatkins

    Hey, thanks for the comment! I love both bikes differently. The 919 is very smooth and just a blast to ride! The Tuono is a little hard to get used to a slow speeds because it is a V-twin but once I got familiar with it, I don't even notice it anymore. When comparing the bikes with my buddy, who also made the same switch as me, we compare the 919 to a girl that will be down for just about anything and the Tuono as a little more refined yet still willing to get down and dirty. Both bikes have TONS of torque. I would however say it is much easier to wheelie on the Tuono than it is on the 919. If you change your sprockets sizes on either one though, that could change.

    i have asked a few of my friends that are very good at wheelies (some of them are stunt riders) and they all say "get rid of Tuono and buy a 4cylinder jap or a 3cylinder Triumph".. i'm guessing: for a good rider it probably doesn't matter what bike he is on, but for a beginner it's way easier to learn if the engine is smoother and more predictable
