2002 chevy 2500HD climate control defaulted to defrost

The mode control motor took a shit and only defrost is available. Quick easy repair to solve problem.

Actuator $15ish on Amazon or Rock Auto. My bolts were 5.5mm, took one of those flexible nut driver extensions for me to squirrel the socket up in there, while the floor vent smacked me in the face the whole time. My lot in life since I just did this on an old Camry of mine too. Sumbitch.

So, first off, thanks for posting this. You helped more than any other video on KZread. My 2002 2500HD wouldn't switch from defrost to dash to floor, and nothing I could find differentiated the hot-cold actuator from the dash-defrost actuator. Long story short, they are the same. Just the big plastic horn pulls off. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for taking the time to record and upload this video. I was about to pull the dash and this saved me a lot of time. One tip I would add is to have something to kneel on and something like one of those inexpensive harber freight moving blankets for a thin cushion to lay in the floorboard - makes it a little less uncomfortable when you're fighting that booger back in there.

I used your video and changed my control because it was dead. I will say, however, as have several others, the hardest part was lining up the new one. Took me about two hours, so I'm not sure how valid your '20 minute' comment is because this ain't my first rodeo working on my truck or other vehicles i have owned. It also would have been very helpful had you mentioned the screw heads were 5.5mm. I have complete sets of Metric and SAE tools but I've never had to use a 5.5mm socket previously, so I had to stop and run to the hardware store to pick one up. IN SPITE OF ALL THIS, I REALLY DO APPRECIATE THE VIDEO. IT TOLD ME EXACTLY WHAT I HAD TO DO. THANKS!!

Great Audio. Great Video quality too. It's appreciated to be able to have both. Instructions. Quick and to the point. A retired Chief Petty Officer who taught our Electronic class told us that a person who cuss's worse than he can is someone who can not find a better word instead. He went into the navy during WW11 when he was 18. I used to cuss especially when I loose my temper and now that I'm in my 50's, I still slip up. Not criticizing just trying to pass on wisdom....

Put the plate behind the front lever and get the bottom bolt in loosely. Then wrestle the back lever in the outer slot. Lever needs to be held towards the firewall. PITA, but I got it.

I ordered 1 on Amazon.ca for $33 bucks Cdn in Edmonton at 10 pm, arrived at 4pm next day. Installed new blend door actuator and it was seized right out of the box. Pulled it apart and the large gear was installed on the wrong side of the internal plastic stops. Installed the gear correctly and unit worked 1 once. It is 4am, tired will look again at it tomorrow. Chinese children need jobs too, and they were likely working at 4am and tired as well. How much quality can Asian child labor actually put into 1 of these units for 33 bucks? I'm joking of course, it was likely Mexican child labor. Amazon is cheap, quality is Meh. Kinda a crap shoot really. 90% of their cheap Amazon auto parts are just fine.

Why didn’t you show the actual r&r procedure? We know what the part looks like.

It’s a 7/32 socket. It’s a American truck should be all standard. I’ve never used metric on mine.
