2002 Chevrolet Silverado long term review. Here’s why you should buy a first gen Silverado

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here is a video of my old Silverado before I sold it! It was a very reliable truck for the most part. I bought it to replace my Roadmaster. Although I hope to have another roadmaster someday, I was just thankful to have a decent car.

I am looking at getting a first gen Silverado/Sierra. A lot of people look at me like I'm crazy being that I want to buy almost a 20 year vehicle in 2022. There reliable, simple, and easy to work on if something goes wrong. They are not loaded like computerized crap that is un-necessary. Being an IT person as my carrier, all the computers and components they put on vehicles from 2013 and up is ridiculous. I appreciate this video as it boost my confidence in finding a first gen and knowing they are reliable trucks if taken care of.

They are great trucks! Suspension components, and rear main seal seem to be the weak point. And the paint of course. Other than that this truck has been amazing

Those same people telling you that are in debt with brand new junk vehicles that are computerized. These older trucks are MILES better than the new pos they release today. Most problems that occur on these trucks as they age are simple electrical issues. Could be a fuse, a faulty wire that has worn out, or a ground that can easily be fixed. Sometimes you may run into a snag where a certain electrical piece has to be repaired or replaced at a shop, but otherwise these are the best trucks GM has ever made and will probably ever make. If the water pump, frame, suspension, intake manifold, transmission, and small electric parts are all functional, I wouldn’t think twice about buying one.

Nice. I had a 2001 silverado z71 with 360k on it. Just replaced water pump front hubs and rear g80. Very reliable trucks and comfortable. I like these models 99-2002 better than 2003-2007.

I have an 05' Sierra SLE with the HO L33. It's been my daily for about 10 years and it has about 170k on the dial. This truck has been nothing but reliable and still gets 18-19 mpg on the highway. The only annoying issues I've come across are rust, running lights burning out quickly, and a couple significant fluid leaks (rear main & steering gear). Just cleared up the leaks with that AT-205 stuff, what an absolute God send. Over the last year I have slowly been going through and checking the high wear items, replacing parts with OEM, and doing preventative maintenance. Just doing the basics like a tune up and grease job has done wonders for how this truck runs and rides. They are stupid easy to work on and pretty cheap to repair even with OEM. I just finished school and I have decided against getting a new truck. I'd rather do a frame off restore of the whole damn truck than get locked into a likely $1k monthly car note. Hell the down payment I would need would likely cover an engine and tranny rebuild. Plus I still love the style and simplicity of this gen of the GMT800's. They are getting to that age where the well kept ones that look great will get compliments.

I had a GMT800 2007 Classic that my pops had for almost 14 years, bought used. It was an extended cab, white WT model with a 4.3L v6. It was well maintained and was going to be given to me. Unfortunately, it was stolen at night from his house and recovered by police a month later. It had practically became a parts truck 😢 and was essentially donated to the salvage yard. My dad was informed it would cost him thousands of dollars to restore it, but since he’s on a fixed income, he gave it up. so sad as i helped him took good care of it for over a decade and then one night it was stolen from us. Although, material things can be replaced, but not my family. Yes it hurts but we have each other and thats more important. On the other hand, i’m looking to get a 2000-2002 Chevy silverado LT Z71 extended cab in the hard to find, indigo blue! I’ve been wanting that since 2006! I thought about the previous 900 and K2 Silverado but I made a 180 and rejected them. Expensive and laden with electronics and computers.

@@strumminandwrenchin9162 that indigo blue and black trim (non-faded) is so sharp on to early 2000 GM’s. Hard to beat these trucks for the price and they aren’t hard to find. Finding one without rust may be a challenge but plenty of donor vehicles to had for spare panels and what not.

@@DandyBeingTandiIt doesn’t matter the Trim tier. Even a fuel pump from a 2000-2006 Suburban would work on a 2002 Silverado because the 2000-2006 Suburban is identical to the 1999-2002 Silverado minus the gas tank size and the obvious SUV portion of the body.
