@tonym3598 Yes - I had a 98 and loved it. I’m sure it’s doing very well in queens ny - the family I sold to. I still have my 2001 and have enough faith in it to; do a new timing belt, new struts. They are good cars.

We are still driving our 2000 XLS just got her a new paint job, stereo and some suspension upgrades. Only have 147k on odometer. I sold it to my self back when I worked in sales at a Toyota dealership in 2000. Best and most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. That's why we are keeping her in top shape and in the family.

My '01 Avalon XLS has 252k miles and still runs great. I have several cars, but this is my daily driver. My interior has aged very little. The dashboard material is also superior to that of the 2005-10 Avalons which tend to crack. I just wish they had of used more up to date instrument cluster lighting considering it was the top of the line Toyota. Seemed to be outdated, even for 2001. I had to have my valve cover gaskets replaced around 240k miles and still think I have a minor leak at the rear seal. Also my timing belt is due again, so a little maintenance due, but overall a quality and well built car.

There is only 1 vehicle I'd rather have on highway than this during this time frame, the LS430, but that is generally twice as much. Perfect highly comfortable commuter car. Buy the 03-04, best years.

@@42luke93 Nope, I've driven newer ones, I just never liked the interiors from 05-12. I know the 3.5 motor is a great motor though, wife's highlander had that motor. I about bought a 13 avalon, but the dealer couldn't find it on their lot when I came in to test drive it, so I ended up buying a 2019 4runner instead, HAHA. 01-04, the ride is so soft, it's incredible, sure are boring looking though. @@delacruztaylor Toyota seems to get sedans right. Hard to believe how no more American companies make them too. Now they dominate Minivans and Sedans! Good to know about that info with the older Avalons. I hope one day I get a chance to ride in one. Although I wish the thing with the front split bench seating and column shifter. As well as the lack of sportiness wasn’t ditched. Never have rode in the 2019 Avalons. Maybe UBer will give me the chance to ride in one.

Chris Definitely a solid choice for a first car. It pulls well through the first gear, but you’ll start getting beat in second so by no means is it a race car. It is however super reliable for a V6, Ive pushed the car to its limits and never had any issues, just keep it maintained and it will last you as long as you need. Only tip I have is don’t do a muffler delete...the car is still pretty quiet and it ruins your MPGs 😂

Aside from a 92 Camry, all the vehciles I've ever owned have always had the column shifter. I didn't have the Camry but 6 months before giving it up to my father and taking the money from the sale of my 87 F-150 to buy a beat up (but fun to drive) 91 Ranger. I never intend to have another vehicle with the shifter in the floorboard. I would like a Column shift accident free Avalon with under 100k miles on it, but it seems I stand a better chance of finding another affordable well cared for column shift pickup truck than I do finding a column shift Avalon.

Thanks, I really appreciate the sentiment. Since the end of last year I've been busy with a career change and moving but hope to be back making these again soon.

If there's nothing major wrong with it that is an insane steal. To the point that the price is suspicious. Definitely make SURE there's nothing major wrong with it

I'd rather have this than my LeSabre. The only good thing about it is the 3.8 V6-- everything else is junk.

I have a 2000 Avalon, and my dad has a 2016. My car rides better hands down. My dad was pissed. I think it rides better than a Cadillac, or any other car I've driven.

I don't know where ya'll live but Avalons aren't a "secret cheap Camry" where I live. They are an almost-Lexus ES and priced accordingly.

I paid 4k for an 04 with 116k in south Florida 1 year ago with a clean title and body. Did need a few things like the valve cover gaskets, timing belt and cam & crank seals.tie rods & sway bar links and I replaced rack & pinion due to torn boots.
